As we prepare for San Diego Comic-Con 2025, and although we have shifted to streaming service science fiction series, TeamWHR is pleased to announce that broadcast television is returning to original series. This subsequent to no new cable or network series on broadcast television for two years.

Of interest, such series dominated broadcast television for three decades, many of which we have reported on since 2008 when this website was created to analyze and review over thirty television programs here and on our archived websites listed on the right sidebar.

San Diego Convention Center - 800

Over and above the more than one hundred (103) entertainment conventions, and hundreds of interviews across over thirty websites, we also analyzed fictional dramas such as Mayans MC and Body of Proof because science fiction celebrities starred in them. We also analyzed many dozens of movies at our dedicated Movie Magic website until deciding to post films and TCM Film Festival movie analysis here to focus solely on conventions, scripted series and interviews for each of the same.

The science fiction series we started with was Stargate at conventions subsequent to working with MGM Studios on their official website. In 2009 WormholeRiders News Agency we expanded our coverage analyzing episodes of Agents of Shield, Alcatraz, Alphas, Being Human, Caprica, Chuck, Continuum, Dark Matter, Day of the Dead, Debris, Defiance, Destination Truth, Dracula, Eureka, Falling Skies, Flashforward, Fringe, Haven, Helix, Hollywood Treasure, Killjoys, La Brea, Primeval New World, Revolution, Sanctuary, Stargate, Supernatural, Terra Nova, The Event, The Expanse, The Neighbors, Treadstone, Vampire Diaries, Van Helsing, V Series, and Warehouse 13.

    The Back Story:

    Comcast NBC Universal Corporation

When the latest consolidation of the entertainment industry began in 2017 with the Comcast NBC Universal merger, we ceased opening dedicated websites for each new series and began moving popular series posts from thousands published over the past seventeen years to our main blog here.

The entertainment industry consolidation has continued unabated sometimes with less than desired results. Facing significant financial losses, particularly in California and Canada where many programs are produced, the top thirty firms in the industry have lost 540 billion in value resulting in tens of thousands of job losses that continued with the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike where 17,000 losses were reported in California. Additionally recent direct losses of over six (6) billion dollars on projects since the strike have been reported. This was caused by several factors including a failure to produce series acceptable to audiences, the labor strike, and a shift in audience viewing habits towards streaming services. All of these factors led to reduced broadcast television science fiction production levels.

The good news is that the trend for science fiction scripted series on broadcast television is beginning a modest comeback this year with the renewal of The Ark for a third season, set to return to SYFY in 2026. 2025 dovetailed this news with new series that debuted this year. As a result of studios and networks rehiring creative talent instead of misguided executive’s dictating what programs and series will be created, more good news is expected with streaming services producing the lions share of scripted science fiction programs.

Best of all, as delineated below, of the three new broadcast network science fiction scripted series, one is featured in a fabulous panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 that begins on July 25, 2025!

    Alien: Earth:

    Alien Earth poster

Alien: Earth is a fantastic new scripted science fiction (prequel) series based on the original 1979 Alien movie. Created by Noah Hawley for FX Networks / Hulu, Alien: Earth stars Sydney Chandler as Wendy, Alex Lawther as CJ, Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh, Essie Davis as Dame Silvia, Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier, Kit Young as Tootles, Adarsh Gourav as Slightly, Babou Ceesay as Morrow and a large supporting cast.

The prequel series takes place in the year 2120, two years before the events of the original film Alien film that took place in the year 2122. Alien: Earth is set some 22 years before Alien: Romulus (2024) which was set in 2142, 59 years before Aliens (1986) and 59 years before Alien 3 (1992) which took place in the year 2179.

Perhaps a disappointment to franchise admirers, it has been confirmed by Hawley that the events which took place in the prequel movies Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017) will be ignored. This has raised questions about the Alien franchise canon when a spaceship crash lands on Earth in 2120 just prior to the events that transpired in the original Alien movie.

Nevertheless, we here at TeamWHR are excited about Alien: Earth as a series, and are eagerly looking forward to the panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, the special Alien Earth Wreckage exhibit at the convention, and the exiting series broadcast premiere August 12, 2025!

    Nautilus:

Nautilus creator James Dormer chose Village Roadshow Studios for filming the series in Oxenford, Queensland, Australia for AMC in the United States. The series is a prequel to the famous Walt Disney movie 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954). The prequel is based on the 1869 novel by Jules Verne that explores the back story of the infamous Captain Nemo originally portrayed by acting legend James Mason.

Nautilus features a huge ensemble main cast starring Shazad Latif as the younger version of Captain Nemo, Georgia Flood as Humility Lucas, Céline Menville as Loti, Luke Arnold as Captain Billy Millais, Jacob Collins-Levy as Youngblood, Kayden Price as Blaster, Benedict Hardie as Edward Cuff, Arlo Green as Turan, Tyrone Ngatai as Kai, Ling Cooper Tang as Suyin, Pacharo Mzembe as Boniface Adamu, Ashan Kumar as Ranbir Lodhari, Damien Garvey as Director Crawley, Cameron Cuffe as Algernon Pitt, and Andrew Shaw as Jiacomo.

The episodes are well produced with practical as well as computer generated special effects making the story quite enjoyable. The remote areas of Australia also adds to the realism of this origin story about Captain Nemo and his legendary submarine, the Nautilus.

In the series we learn that Captain Nemo is an Indian prince robbed of his family birthright who was made a prisoner of the infamous East India Company that has stolen his ideas, property and forced to build the Nautilus or face death.

Bent on revenge against the corrupt United Kingdom East India Company, young Captain Nemo escapes the prison, steals the Nautilus from the East India Company (EIC) and sets sail with a diverse crew on board.

The theft of the awesome first of it’s kind high technology submarine angers EIC Director  Crawley and his aide who vow to hunt down Captain Nemo to take back the Nautilus.

Subsequent to escaping, Captain Nemo and his band of heroes adventures find our heroes battling the evil East India Company Dreadnought battleship while viewers revel in the discovery of fabulous underwater worlds!

The Librarians: The Next Chapter creators are John Rogers and show runner Dean Devlin featured on the TNT Network. Devlin is well known for Stargate (1994) as well as science fiction movies and television series including Independence Day (1996), The Triangle (2005) miniseries, The Librarians (original movies / series) and Leverage Redemption for a total of over 40 other beloved highly successful efforts including The Ark.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter represents the third true scripted science fiction series to be released on broadcast television in 2025. Currently running on TNT Networks, the series is produced by Electric Entertainment which offers the series on their streaming service, available commercial free for paid subscribers.

This superb series is nearing the end of it’s first season twelve episode run representing a move by Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD) that echoes their recent announcement to return creative control to content producers subsequent to the merger of the conglomerate now producing outstanding desirable results.

We here at WormholeRiders News Agency applaud WBD for making this move that has resulted in rehiring content creators in a bottoms up instead of top down management style. The Librarians: The Next Chapter is a continuation of The Librarians movies and television series that were originally broadcast on the now defunct television broadcast network The CW. Once the home of many science fiction and teen drama shows, CW is now a streaming service under the Nexstar Media Group jointly owned by WBD and Paramount Global.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter opened with the return of beloved Christian Kane as the legendary Jacob Stone from the popular 2014 to 2018 Librarians series. Also starring is Jessica Green as Charlie Cornwall. Fans will recall Ms. Green from the four season successful series The Outpost (2018-2021) was executive produced by Mr. Devlin. Featuring a large ensemble cast that includes Callum McGowan as Vikram Chamberlain, Olivia Morris as Lysa Pascal, Bluey Robinson as Conner Green, Caroline Loncq as Elaine Astolat, Adnan Haskovic as General Bogdan Gregor, admirers of The Ark have been delighted to see Paul Leonard Murray as Dr. Frederic Stanaris, Pavle Jerinic as Petar Blagojevic, and Jadran Malkovich as Guy Leroy in guest starring roles.

The series features Rachel Olschan and Noah Wyle as Executive Producers. Viewers will recall Wyle from the original 2004 movie that kicked off the franchise and Olschan from The Ark. Additionally viewers have enjoyed the writing of The Ark’s Rebecca Rosenberg and the directing of Sandra Mitrovic, Milan Todorovic, and Orsi Nagypal, all featured Directors from The Ark.

The continuation series features time travel from a past Librarian. Returning to what used to be his castle, Vikram Chamberlain discovers it is now a a museum, which in turn causes him to accidentally unleash magic across the world. The Librarians: The Next Chapter is a popular series that we enjoy each week and we are pleased with the fact that this superb science series has already been renewed for a second season!

    Hello Snowpiercer fans and WormholeRiders,

One of the hottest science fiction shows of all time is sizzling in it’s second season after a fantastic first season. Heading for a terrific third season to the absolute delight of everyone involved, especially the admirers of the book graphic series written by Jacques Lob in 1982 that inspired the original movie in 2013.

The dystopian science fiction series is popular for several reasons. Snowpiercer as a television series is the brainchild of a collaboration between Dog Fish Films formed to film the series, CJ Entertainment (Avengers Endgame) in association with filming facilities in Vancouver British Columbia at Studio T (The Last Ship), Tomorrow Studios (Hanna), and broadcast on Turner Network Television, a Warner Media Company.

The world of science fiction admirers went wild for Snowpiercer when it was finally ready, including all who believe that a life aboard Snowpiercer might be better than what was happening in a world transformed by a global pandemic.

Fans loved that life is possible even in a frozen world destroyed by environmental catastrophes caused by global warming. To thirsty viewers, Snowpiercer seemed like a workable solution when compared to never ending lock downs and ever changing announcements by dubious health officials the world over who often damaged or destroyed their own credibility.

The series became a welcome escape from the reality of the pandemic, a fantasy vehicle where everyone who watched wanted to be onboard. With viewers taking sides, either with the oppressed “Tailies”, or yearning for the luxuries of first class, or anywhere in between on the fabled train 1,000 cars long!

In 2016 Graeme Manson and Josh Friedman created the television series concept when they brought together cast members and made the announcement at the iconic, world famous pop culture event, San Diego Comic Con.

In development for over three years, Snowpiercer as a cast took to the convention circuit while the details were worked out. The convention audiences were often to standing room only crowds as fans waited patiently before the series took the science fiction television world by storm when it premiered on TNT Network on May 17, 2020 after the program was originally scheduled to be broadcast on TNT Networks sister station, the TBS Network.

The series began it’s premiere in May 2020 with marvelous main cast starring Daveed Diggs as Detective Andre Layton, Jennifer Connelly as Melanie Cavill, Lena Hall as Miss Audrey, Alison Wright as Ruth Wardell, Mickey Sumner as Bess Till, Iddo Goldberg as Bennett Knox, Roberto Urbina as Javier de La Torre, Sheila Vand as Zarah Ferami, Annalise Basso as LJ Folger, Sam Otto as John Osweiller, Karin Konoval as Dr. Pelton, Steven Ogg as Pike, Katie McGuinness as Josie Wellstead, Miranda Edwards as Lights, Mike O’Malley as Sam Roche, and Aaron Glenane as The Last Australian.

Snowpiercer features a huge ensemble cast with many favorite actors of Team WHR including Aleks Paunovic as Breachman “Boki” Boscovic,  Andrea Ware as Jackboot Tyson, Vincent Gale as Robert Folger, Jonathan Lloyd Walker as Big John, Stephen Lobo as Martin Colvin, Sarah Strange as Suzanne, Ellie Harvie as The Notary,  Amanda Brugel as Eugenia, and dozens of other top notch actors.

    2021 Snowpiercer John Wilford

Season two added the famous Sean Bean (Patriot Games, The Martian) as John Wilford, Rowan Blanchard as Alexandra Cavill (Melanie’s thought to be long dead daughter), Australian actor Georgina Haig of Fringe fame as Emilia, Bryan Terrell Clark as Pastor Logan, Andre Tricoteux as Icy Bob , and Tom Lipinski as Kevin.

Each of these fine actors mentioned above, in fact the entire cast have added a sense of realism due to their familiarity with movie and television buffs. Superb screen writing, directing and high quality production values  that have made Snowpiercer a runaway hit series headed for a well deserved third season!

Season one focuses on Andre Layton called to first class to investigate as series of murders and the slavery of lower class passengers from the “Tail”. Known as Tailies, these people are kept aboard Snowpiercer to perform tasks that the “paying passengers” do not want to be involved with.

The first season concludes with Andre Layton and the passengers discovering that John Wilford (Sean Bean) is not actually on board Snowpiercer. Melanie Cavell and the train engineers, in conjunction with the “Hospitality” division have been twisting the passengers arms and minds to enforce discipline aboard the train that circles the globe on a set of tracks that John Wilford laid based upon his knowledge that the governments of the world cannot be trusted, but that he can be trusted.

This factor leads the inhabitants down a long dark path in season two with passenger loyalty being split by the suspect Mr. Wilford who appears to be plotting to leave Melanie to freeze to death as Wilford’s nefarious machinations are made manifest aboard a train bound for destinations both known and unknown!

Speaking of making things manifest, even more fun for fans of the series is the dedicated Wilford Industries web site were fans can design their own train cars and enter fun contests to win various prizes including having their own designs featured on the web site.

Highlights to “Our Answer for Everything” and “The Eternal Engineer”:

    2021 Snowpiercer Melanie Cavill

We enter our analysis with Melanie Cavill sincerely seeking scientific evidence that life is returning to the Earth after a series of confrontations with Mr. Wilford. Melanie wants to work towards a time when the passengers can leave the train and return to the surface of the planet.

Mr Wilford on the other hand, is of a frame of mind to continue a dictaorshipship in an effort to consolidate his power that has pitted his followers against those who oppose his so called alleged rescue. No doubt Wilford plans to leave Melanie to perish at the research station against the wishes of her daughter Alexandra!

Meanwhile, Bess Till, Andre Layton and Sam Roche discuss the explosive situation developing on the train subsequent to Layton realizing that a new serial killer is aboard the train. Investigating who it could be, we learn that the  as Beth Till learned details about Melanie’s secret deal with Mr. Wilford.

Many have flashbacks to when Mr. Wilford came aboard for the first time hoping that it would be for the best of all passengers on the train.

    Elsewhere on Big Alice, the train that captured Snowpiercer at the end of season one, Wilford apparently has turned Miss Audrey to his side to counter the efforts by Beth Till, Miss Audrey, Ruth Wardell, Andre Layton, and critically Alexandra Cavill who struggle to deal with the shocking facts;

It is painfully obvious that Wilford will stop at nothing to consolidate his power, demanding absolute loyalty to his cause or face death or being locked in the freezer drawers about the train!

We learned in the seventh episode that Kevin, thought to have been killed by Wilford for trading items to the passengers, is actually alive. Miss Audrey, using her unusual powers of persuasion is apparently successful in turning Kevin back to Wilford’s side. However, this editor believes that Miss Audrey may be using this scene to trick Wilford and take revenge in the future of season three!

    2021 Snowpiercer Breachman Boki Boscovic

Beth Till, Ruth Wardell, Andre Layton, and critically Alexandra Cavill have been busy solving the question of exactly who has been in collusion with Wilford.  Evidence points to Pastor Logan who appears to be directly involved in the breachmen’s deaths.

“Boki” Boscovic, suspected by Wilford of being a collaborator with his enemies, is understandably observed crying over the death of his crew mates, the Breachman.

The hidden conflict within Miss  Audrey stems from when, years prior, Wilford convinced here to slit her wrists in a moment of weakness. Miss Audrey is able to convince Wilford that she is loyal using his obsessive attraction to her from the past to thankfully stay safe for the time being.

    2021 Snowpiercer Alexandra Cavill

Moreover, Wilford is brutally forthright with Alexandra when she asks why she’s being shut out of his plans, demanding she be loyal to him, not Melanie. These two women will play crucial roles as the Snowpiercer story arc unfolds in season three.

This brings us back to several pivotal characters. The first is Pastor Logan, a true devotee of Mr. Wilford who appears to believe that he has chosen the “right side” of the conflict as Wilford tightens his reign of power over his followers who is feeding religious propaganda to the followers of Wilford.

The second is Boki Boscovic well played by Aleks Paunovic, who is dealing with understandable grief after being confronted by Tailies seeking to hold on to Freedom via Andre Layton. Will Boki realize that it is Paster Logan who is ultimately to blame for his friend’s deaths?

The third is Wilford’s the seemingly programmed robot human, Icy Bob and how will Andre Layton deal with him? How will be fit into Wilford’s plan to dominate Snowpiercer? Who in the heck will be driving the train when and if they are able to rescue Melanie in the future of the series?

2021 Snowpiercer John Wilford and Icy Bob

A critical question to be address is will Melanie even be rescued by Wilford, or will she be left freeze to death by the crazed, power hungry dictator Mr. Wilford who seems to not care who is injured, even his loyal minion Icy Bob, while his quest for absolute domination progresses?

In the eighth episode “The Eternal Engineer”, much is revealed that represents the final pivot in this fascinating science fiction series that sizzles in our hearts and minds!

When Boki says that he “served Mr. Wilford for thirty years and that he would not have been involved with killing The Breachman”,  we become concerned that Boki will remain loyal to Mr. Wilford despite actually being betrayed by him and Pastor Logan.

An internal series of water leaks occurs when Icy Bob is injured while on a mission for Mr. Wilford to sabotage Snowpiercer. Boki suits up to affect repairs while Icy Bob is brought inside. Alexandra who suspects Wilford is trying to sabotage Snowpiercer gets it confirmed when Facts come to the surface when it is discovered that Mr. Wilford has the only available replacement part.

2021 Snowpiercer Josie and Icy Bob

Josie, now nearly fully healed, suspects Mr. Wilford is up to no good as well as she looks on to Icy Bob, nearly killed when he went outside to sabotage the train that ultimately allowed Mr. Wilford to “rescue” everyone!

To the utter amazement of the fans of freedom and those hoping that saving Melanie is going to happen, the eighth episode ends with Wilford having saved the train by sabotaging it!

The complete shock is that Wilford, having conquered those opposed to him, takes his place as “The Eternal Engineer” and locks all of his adversaries including Andre Layton and Alexandra Cavill in the freezer drawers so they are subdued, unable to interfere with Mr. Wilford!

Tune in to Snowpiercer on TNT Network in two weeks to see the sizzling season two, two part finale!

    Season Two to Date Summary:

2021 Snowpiercer Andre Layton and Melanie Cavill

Over and above the outstanding direction, production and acting by all involved, some of the best sequences in Snowpiercer are the special effects. The freezing of peoples body parts, the train plowing through the snow and the mountain top to sea level journey of the train as the passengers chose which side they will ally themselves with.

The visual of the train on the “corkscrew” with lights on in the windows to show who was with Mr. Wilford or Andre Layton was one of the most superb scenes in the series!

Snowpiercer represents one of the finest science fiction series produced in the recent history of the genre. We look forward to the adventures that remain in season two and our review coverage in season three. Team WHR will be back with a two episode season finale analysis next month and hope that Melanie and Andre survive the evil Mr. Wilford!

Hi there Falling Skies fans!Comic-Con banner logo blue - Click to learn more at the official web site!

On Friday July 23, 2012, during the festivities at Comic-Con San Diego, and with courtesy of Turner Network Television and Dreamworks Studios, we had the privilege of attending the Falling Skies Press Room where the excitement was beyond a fever pitch since the announcement of a third season renewal a few days earlier!

Based upon world-wide distribution, Falling Skies is without a doubt the world’s number one science fiction series since production began two years ago, and it glowed during the Falling Skies Press Room!

SDCC Falling Skies Press - Cast celebratesExcitement, in fact outright glee flowed freely among both the cast, the creators and the media. All were quite pleasantly edified by the huge media draw versus Comic-Con 2011 before the series had swept across the world to widespread fan acceptance.

The “buzz” in the press room was palpable. While waiting for the special guests to arrive, the conversation among press contemporaries was lively as we too celebrated a science fiction series, once doubted by some of the critics, that had deservedly “made it”, a success in the highly competitive television programming industry!

When the cast members arrived, there was an audible cheer that erupted across the room as they lined up for a group cast photo opportunities!

In fact, this press observer and everyone in attendance were delighted with Falling Skies accomplishment of maintaining high ratings, not an easy task in today’s entertainment market for a full fledged alien invasion, science fiction television series.

All of these factors and more made this media event a highly sought after press room opportunity in 2012 as you can observe below in our exclusive video.

SDCC 2012 Falling Skies Press - Connor Jessup and Jessy SchramConservative estimates placed the media presence at three to four times larger in terms of people in the room. With many extra video camera crew’s, each packing high definition equipment, and more photographers packed into the press room than 2011, everyone was all “a Twitter” (literally) at the conclave.

The mood was festive with the presence of many fan favorites from the series including Noah Wyle (Tom Mason), Moon Bloodgood (Dr. Anne Glass), Will Patton (Captain Dan Weaver), Drew Roy (Hal Mason), Sarah Sanguine Carter (Maggie), Colin Cunningham (John Pope) as well as “Skitterized”Connor Jessup who portrays Ben Mason, and Jessy Schram as Karen! SDCC 2012 Falling Skies Press - Drew Roy and Sarah Sanguin Carter

The excitement at this years Falling Skies Press Room event was further amplified by the fact that more than twice as many media outlets from around the world were all ready and waiting eagerly for interviews with the cast members, each of whom were in extremely jovial spirits themselves having heard of the wonderful third season renewal news only recently.

SDCC 2012 Falling Skies Press - Moon BloodgoodThe cast members talked about celebrating after their panel and how happy they were over the renewal. It was a pleasure to see their pride of ownership over a successful and well received science fiction entertainment product.

Now that tens of millions world wide have become Falling Skies believers, the creators were prescient in thinking ahead by increasing the number of celebrities in attendance at this years Comic-Con geek convention in San Diego.

Turner Network Executive Michael Knight beamed at the press reception as were series Executive Producers Justin Falvey of Dreamworks, and Remi Aubuchon of Falling Skies!

Also in attendance, coming in after the press room session ended, was science fiction legend and superstar in his own right, the one and only Wil Wheaton!

Falling Skies 2012 panel moderator at Comic-Con, Wil is well known as host of 2nd Watch, the runaway hit web “after show” that airs each week live on the Internet! Wil mentioned that he loves doing 2nd Watch and is a big fan of the series himself! It was nice to chat with Mr. Wheaton and to see him in person once again.

    SDCC 2012 Falling Skies Press - Wil Wheaton and KennAs I left the Falling Skies Press Room event with happy thoughts, I did something many journalists and celebrities alike seek when attending San Diego Comic-Con;

A quiet place to be away from the throng of humanity for a few minutes before the next assignment, panel or event squarely presented itself.

I sought out a little known area of the hotel with a view of San Diego Bay. As I turned the corner, there was Noah Wyle and Will Patton with their female companions seeking the same thing; 15 minutes of relaxation before the long walk to the next event. SDCC 2012 Falling Skies Press - Friendly TNT PR staff

Not wanting to intrude, I asked if it was okay to join them. Truth be told, I asked them how in the devil had they found my secret spot!? (Just kidding).

Noah motioned in a friendly fashion to join them, stating he “remembered meeting me last year”. Will Patton also looked up with a recognizing nod and smile. This was to be one of the special moments at a convention when the pressure of the event was off and we could chat freely.

I remembered them fondly from our interviews with Will and Noah last year during Comic-Con 2011 San Diego. This year however, with the success that brings more media attention, time had run out before interviewing them in the 2012 Falling Skies Press Room.

Keeping the cameras off out of reverence for the chance encounter, I enjoyed about 12 minutes of private time (compared to the gleeful bustle of the press room) chatting with Noah Wyle. I asked how he felt about his accomplishment as a producer of Falling Skies. From a business perspective he related that he was proud of what had been accomplished.

We also discussed the change in production locations to Vancouver British Columbia. Noah said he “was happy with everything that the move went very well in Vancouver, and was looking forward to shooting season three there”.

As we parted company, Will Patton remembered that I had asked him if he would be marrying Hal and Maggie in the future. He briefly went into character indicating he was going to “keep an eye on Maggie and Hal pending further developments”. As I wished them well, and thanked them for their time, Noah Wyle was gracious enough to do a spur of the moment photo opportunity, which I will think of fondly for a long time.

    Thanks Noah!

    Hey Falling Skies fans!

Dreamworks Television - Click to visit and follow Dreamsworks on Twitter!Falling Skies, an apocalyptic science fiction drama from Dreamworks Studios, is entering its second season on TNT. It stars Noah Wyle as a father of three sons doing his best to keep them alive and fighting back against an alien invasion force.

As a teacher of American History, Tom Mason (Wyle’s character) knows all about resistance against a superior enemy invasion force. He uses examples from the American Revolutionary War to teach the others that as long as they keep fighting, there is hope.

Falling Skies S2x02 - Tom Mason flees the enemy aliens.

Falling Skies S1x02 - Noah Wyle as Tom MasonThe history teacher in Tom Mason might not be able to explain it, but Falling Skies has become a very popular show. This series is one of survival in the face of an overwhelming enemy.

According to TNT, “Falling Skies opens in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. At the center of the series is Tom Mason (Noah Wyle), a Boston history professor whose family was torn apart. Falling Skies S1x02 - The adult romance between Tom and Anne

Anne Glass (Moon Bloodgood) is a pediatrician who becomes the primary medic of the 2nd Mass. Capt. Weaver (Will Patton) plays a fierce leader of the resistance.

The series also stars Drew Roy (Secretariat) as Hal, Tom’s oldest son and a growing fighter in the resistance movement; Maxim Knight (Brothers & Sisters) as Matt, Tom’s youngest son; Connor Jessup (The Saddle Club) as Ben, Tom’s recently rescued son; and Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds) as Lourdes, a former med student and Dr. Glass’ only support for medical emergencies. Colin Cunningham (Living in Your Car) is John Pope, a rebel who will stop at nothing to kill the aliens.”

One must ask, what is it about Falling Skies that is attracting so much attention? Falling-Skies S1x10 - Tom agrees to board an alien ship to protect his son from the aliens.

Despite premiering on Father’s Day in North America, Falling Skies turned in a winning performance Sunday June 17 with a “Prime Time” victory of 4.5 million live viewers (US only).

Falling Skies scored well for a holiday evening with solid ratings of 1.5 in the critical with adults between 18 to 49 years of age and nearly reaching 2.2 million live adult viewers in the 25 to 54 age group. Not since Stargate SG-1 has a science fiction program attracted so many adult viewers.

Seemingly down 25% from the 2.0 rating earned during the 2011 series launch, overall viewership is expected match the 2011 numbers, increasing to approximately 6 million when “Plus 7” DVR and on-line numbers are factored in.

Falling Skies S3x03 - Planning the attackThis from a public who often time shifts their entertainment viewing to on-line network sources, mobile devices and or recorded sources (DVR) now widely available in many homes. Perhaps even more telling is the huge crowd that joined the Falling Skies cast at the dedicated Falling Skies TNT web site to participate in “2nd Watch”.

2nd Watch is an on-line program web cast that is conducted after the broadcast at the TNT Network web site. 2nd Watch, hosted by Wil Wheaton, set the Twitter and Facebook world on fire Sunday evening as eager fans set off to invade the TNT web site where they can chat and send text messages to the host and guests! Falling Skies S2x01 Confrontation with Pope

In this weeks episode of 2nd Watch, Mpho Koaho (Anthony) and Colin Cunningham (John Pope) will be awesome! Speaking of Pope, this week TNT also launched “Pope’s Blog” featuring insight into the enigmatic “bad boy” portrayed “in character” by Cunningham!

Falling Skies mini banner - Click to visit 2nd Watch! Here is the answer: Stories like the ones told by the TNT writers of Falling Skies attract us because they reflect humanity’s greatest strength, the power of adaptation. As a social animal, people are very curious about how others overcome challenges that might terrify us. We are fascinated by the thought that a person’s attitude can make a difference between life and death.

Falling Skies S2x01 - Tom Mason's friends look after him during his medical emergency

Falling Skies S3x03 - Fighting to survive

But it is more than that. Falling Skies has come along just as problems in the United States and around the world seem to be spinning out of control. The heroes in this show are doing more than just surviving.

They are people who are able to stay calm and reasonable in the face of fear; people who have retained their optimism and determination in spite of great odds. They are survivors focussed on others rather than themselves, either thinking about their families or their fellow survivors.

Falling Skies S3x03 - Weaver and Mason struggle to help the Resistance surviveAnd that, I believe is what makes the show important at this particular time in America. Many Americans are facing challenges known only to their grandparents from the Great Depression often referred to as “the dirty thirties”.

Many today have lost their homes or have gone bankrupt. Many others cannot find jobs. The United States government is basically bankrupt. Horror stories from other countries abound. The world seems to be going crazy.

House Foreclosures: Image courtesy Hernando County Foreclosure ListSo, Americans and others around the word watch television as a means of escape. Comedy helps them feel better for a half hour at a time. Crime dramas produce a feeling that justice can occur and the good guys will win in the end.

Falling Skies has chosen to use a period in American history to support the characters belief that they will prevail over an enemy with better technology and greater numbers. Americans need that. It provides a sense of hope and empathy. “If Tom Mason and his group can survive all these bad things happening to them, maybe we can too”.

Click to visit and learn more about Taylor Clark at his official web site!By watching how others cope with a traumatic event, even if it is fictional, we learn to cope with challenges in our everyday lives. “The biggest difference between our cool-headed heroes and the rest of us is not that those people are somehow fearless; it’s that they relate to their fears in a much more harmonious way than others do. In other words, these poised people have learned to work with their fears rather than against them — they don’t get preoccupied with their nerves or struggle to eradicate their anxiety — and this important shift frees them to focus on the moment and perform their best”, says Taylor Clark, author of the book, Nerve, a book about dealing with fear and stress.

During periods of upheaval, we look more to entertainment to help us feel better about ourselves. For example, during the depression in the 1930’s, popular films at the time were Gone With The Wind, The Wizard of Oz and Frankenstein.

These are all films where a few heroes were forced to overcome what seemed like insurmountable odds in order to survive. I believe that our entertainment often reflects the difficulties that we face as a culture. When the economy is booming, our entertainment is far different from what we watch when things seem to be falling apart.

Falling Skies S1x01 - Hal, Matt and Tom Mason promo picture

As the creators of Falling Skies state, the show, “focuses on the resilience of the survivors and their determination to maintain their humanity when all else has been destroyed. It is a tale of endurance, commitment and courage in which everyday people are called upon to become heroes. They may be outmatched, outnumbered and outgunned, but nothing can beat the human spirit. Most of all, the series is about the ties that bind people together in the most difficult of circumstances”.

Falling Skies S2- The soldiers of the future
“Tom, I’m old and I can’t remember stuff from one day to the next, but who is that new guy at the back?”

Despite our circumstances, we as a civilization will adapt and change. It is who we are as a people. Falling Skies shows us the best and worst of us in compelling ways. It helps us to learn more about who we are. And it shows us what we are capable of.Falling Skies - cast banner season 2 - Click to learn more at the official TNT Network web site!

  • Falling Skies: An Interview with The Charming and Talented Mpho Koaho

Falling Skies: An Interview with The Charming and Talented Mpho Koaho

    Falling Skies on TNT

Mpho KoahoHey there, fans of Mpho Koaho!

On Friday, September 30th, Mpho was kind enough to sit down with the WormholeRiders News Agency for an exclusive Skype interview from his home in Vancouver, Canada.

Mpho Koaho has appeared in a number of television shows, such as animated series MetaJets, Combat Hospital, Rookie Blues, Flashpoint, and most recently TNT’s new sci-fi drama, Falling Skies. The show was a massive hit for the network and it is what we spent the majority of our conversation with Mpho discussing.

Falling Skies, which is produced by Steven Spielberg, told the story of the aftermath of a crippling alien invasion, that has wiped out nearly ninety percent of the Earth’s population. The monstrous race of beings that seemingly lead the invasion are fast, six-legged, and insect-like; which prompted people to call them “Skitters.”

The Skitters main weapon against humanity are towering robotic “Mech” soldiers that are made out of a near-indestructible metal. As if this would not make them a dangerous enough foe, the Skitters also capture and brainwash young earth children; by use of mechanical “harnesses” that attached to their spines. The aliens used them to do their bidding and as cannon fodder.

    video
    play-sharp-fill

It is eventually discovered that these harnesses do much more than just control the minds of the children they are attached to – they also mutated their bodies into monstrous creatures much like the Skitters.  As the show’s first season continued on, it was discovered that the Skitters were merely foot soldiers, themselves a “harnessed” and mutated race of conquered beings, that are doing the bidding of tall, thin grey-skinned aliens who rarely appear to the people of earth. The show focuses on a group of resistance fighters, called the “Second Massachusetts” (2ndMass).

On the show Falling Skies, Mpho Koaho plays Anthony; a former Boston police officer who has allied himself with the Second Massachusetts. Anthony became close with another resistance fighter named Dai (Peter Shinkoda), as well as the unit’s second in command, Tom Mason (Noah Wyle), a former college professor who joined the unit to better protect his three sons Hal (Drew Roy), Ben (Connor Jessup) and Matt (Maxim Knight).

Mpho Koaho as Anthony with Peter Shinkoda as Dai
During our exclusive interview, Mpho Koaho spoke about his time working on Falling Skies and past projects that he has done including being one of two finalists for a role in Stargate Universe with his friend Brian J. Smith (they both recently tweeted with other ).

Mpho’s character, Anthony, has become a fan favorite character on Falling Skies and is slated to appear in the show’s second season. Falling Skies will begin production in mid October in Vancouver, Canada. Be sure to follow Mpho Koaho’s fan page on Facebook by clicking here. Have fun and enjoy our audio interview with Mpho to find out interesting tidbits like who would be Mpho’s dream guest-star on Falling Skies, what kind of physical training he undergoes, and what his favorite moment is on the show.

Falling Skies Colin Cunningham Discusses “Loose Cannon” John Pope, Centigrade and Stargate!

Falling Skies Banner - Click to visit and learn more at TNT!

Hello Colin Cunningham fans!Click to visit and learn about Colin Cunningham at his official web site!

Falling Skies actor, Colin Cunningham very kindly consented to join two of the staff of WormholeRiders News Agency recently for an exclusive telephone interview from his Los Angeles home.

Our exciting interview with Colin Cunningham occurred on September 15, 2011 and was a real insight into the famed character actor who has has enchanted us in many television series including Falling Skies, Stargate, DaVinci’s Inquest, Eureka, Sanctuary, and movies such as The 6th Day and Stargate Continuum!

Despite being very busy Mr. Cunningham over the past few years guest staring on a variety of science fiction shows and dramas as well as producing his own project, Centegrade with Yellow Crow Films (trailer included below), Colin graciously granted us over an hour of his time.

However his biggest project, and the one he is the most excited about is his character, John Pope, on TNT’s Falling Skies.

Falling Skies - Colin Cunningham returns as John Pope!
Produced by Steven Spielberg’s Dreamworks Television, the show premièred June 19, 2011. Falling Skies tells the story of the aftermath of a global invasion by several races of extraterrestrials (including the bug-like beings know as Skitters; a race of seemingly humanoid grey-skinned beings that seem to be their commanders; and mechanical Attack Drones called mechs) that neutralizes the world’s power grid and technology, quickly destroys the combined militaries of all the world’s countries, and apparently kills over 90% of the human population within a few days.

Falling Skies S1x09 - Colin Cunningham as bad boy John Pope
The invasion and the objectives of the Aliens is not explained, though the aliens try to round up children between 8 and 16 and attach a metallic obedience device onto (and into) their spines. Forcibly removing the device instantly kills the child. The story picks up six months after the invasion and follows a group of survivors who band together to fight back. The group, known as the Second Massachusetts (an allusion to a historical regiment from the Continental Army), is led by the retired Captain Weaver (Will Patton) and Boston University history professor Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) against the alien invaders!

Falling Skies S1x08 - New Aliens
John Pope (Colin Cunningham) is the leader of a post-apocalyptic criminal gang who captured Tom Mason (Noah Wyle), Hal (Drew Roy), Karen (Jessy Schram), Anthony (Mpho Koaho), Margaret (Sarah Sanguin Carter) and Dai (Peter Shinkoda) and intended to trade them back to the 2nd Mass in exchange for an M2 Browning, food and one of their Pontiac GTO. However, the plan backfired when Margaret helped Tom and the rest escape, and Pope was captured and the rest of his gang killed. Pope earns his keep with the Second Mass. by acting as a cook for the group when he isn’t trying to kill aliens.

Falling Skies S1x08 Colin Cunningham about to help fight the aliens

In our exclusive interview, Colin Cunningham shares his perspective on acting, his work on Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, his opinion on nudity and love scenes in film and his thoughts on reality television.

Of course, everyone is excited about his role on the highly rated science fiction drama, Falling Skies. He has become a much beloved character on the show that will be entering its second season in the summer of 2012! Principle production for the second season begins in October in Vancouver. Do not be surprised to see “Centigrade” on your screens in the near future by this talented writer, producer and director.
