Today, June 25, 2021 we were honored to interview Aleks Paunovic!

Aleks has recently completed a fabulous new movie named “Chained” and another just announced called “Zero Contact” starring with several of our favorite actors; Anthony Hopkins, Rukiya Bernard, and Adrian Holmes! During the interview we focused on Van Helsing, Snowpiercer and Chained. I had wanted to be part of the interview, but was unable to due to a personal family reason, so Kenn graciously conducted the interview without me.

Aleks Paunovic was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The 6’5″ actor says that boxing is what shaped him. His father, grandfather, and uncle were all champion boxers in the old Yugoslavia, so Aleks grew up with it, he admits. Boxing was always a part of his life and has been featured often in his acting career.

Aleks was injured at the Pre Pan Am games in a boxing match, and that recovery period, in part, led him to re-think his life and what he wanted to do. He realized that he always wanted to tell stories. “I feel like sports is mental, physical, and shapes character with so much humility wrapped up in confidence” says Aleks. “I found it compelling, and acting is in the same world. I wanted to recreate those emotions and feelings in people, by telling stories”.

When it comes to science fiction series and films, Aleks admits that he never was a SYFY guy until he started acting. “What I love about it, is that you get to create your own ideas of a character, and create the way a character walks, looks, all of that. There’s so much freedom in the science fiction world”.

Paunovic, currently starring in “Chained” produced by “My Precious Pictures“, has created many memorable characters in appearances on such shows as Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Smallville, Once Upon a Time, Psych, Arctic Air, The 100, Arrow, iZombie, Continuum, Supernatural, Snowpiercer and Van Helsing.

Aleks has had parts in popular films like War for the Planet of the Apes and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, and worked alongside Keanu Reeves in Siberia, Liam Neeson in Cold Pursuit, and Anthony Hopkins, Ray Liotta in Blackway, Numb with Marie Avgeropoulos and Paul McGillian, and many more films and television series.

“Throughout my career, I’ve played a lot of baddies” Paunovic laughs, “I have a blast with it, just because I don’t really connect to being a baddie in real life. But playing bad dudes in film and television has been a blast”.

    Aleks Paunovic in Numb

When asked about favorite characters that he’s created over the years, “one of the ones that really sticks out to me is a film that David Hollander wrote and directed called Personal Effects with Kathy Bates, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Ashton Kutcher. I played a mentally challenged man who was accused of killing someone”.

“It was an opportunity where I got to play somebody that wasn’t strong, that wasn’t an alpha, and was in an extremely vulnerable state. I worked really hard on that character. I gained 60 pounds of ‘bad weight’ because I didn’t want to look strong in it”.

“I remember seeing it in the theater with an audience and some of the pivotal moments of telling the story of that character – to watch how it affected people in the audience – I always go back to that being one of the proudest moments within my career”.

Audiences might recognize Paunovic from SYFY’s Van Helsing, where he stars as Julius, a character who’s never afraid to get physical. When he originally auditioned for and landed the part of Julius in season one of the show, the character was an aggressive, fear-inducing vampire.

At the beginning of season two, however, Julius became human again, which was a welcome surprise for Paunovic. A boxing backstory sweetened the deal even more: “I was literally like a giddy little kid then they told me they wrote a boxing episode”, Paunovic laughs. “

“The opportunity to go from vampire to human, and basically just doing ‘Aleks’ within that character was really a huge breath of fresh air, and I loved that aspect of playing Julius. But it’s bittersweet. It’s the best gig that I’ve had, and the longest gig I’ve had,” he laments, referring to the end of the series that sees Julius sacrifice all in his last episode “Graveyard Smash” which aired last week (Click here to learn about Aleks last appearance as Julius).

Paunovic’s lovable giant of a character, Breachman Bojan “Boki” Boscovic, on TNT’s Snowpiercer, had a mere two-episode run in the first season. “I went in for the audition, and it was originally a Polish character named Harold,” Paunovic says, “And I’m Serbian, so sometimes I’ll improv in Serbian. So, when I got the role, I was like, ‘Okay, now I have to tell them I don’t speak Polish and that my improv was in Serbian, so either we take it out, or we make the guy Serbian!’”

Paunovic coaxed showrunner Graeme Manson to go along with his ideas for the character, even allowing him to name the burly mechanic after his own brother, Bojan. “Come on, man. Breachman Boki Boscovic!” he laughs, “How great of a name is that? I get to make him mine. He’s Serbian and I get to give my brother a tribute”.

Aleks is also working on a passion project in his hometown of Winnipeg, creating a production studio called Wonderlight Studios formed in 2019. “Winnipeg, has, arguably, the best tax credit in North America. Not only that, we want to create jobs within my hometown. Covid has definitely put a little bit of a hurt on things at the moment, but we are building relationships and looking forward to expanding Winnipeg into a vital production city”, Paunovic says.

  • Celestial Body Shout Out To Jennifer Copping From The Debris Wormhole!

Welcome back Debris Lovers, WormholeRiders, and admirers of the terrifically talented actor Jennifer Copping!

On Monday May 24, 2021, Kenn and Lori of TeamWHR were honored to interview Jennifer Copping!

Ms. Copping portrays the fascinating character of Julia Maddox in the hit science fiction series Debris which has just completed it’s season one run in the United States with the tagline. “Three years ago, images were captured of a wrecked alien spacecraft moving through our solar system,” it says. “For the past six months, Debris from that spacecraft has been falling to Earth.”

Jennifer Copping’s long list of acting accomplishments recently include a recurring role on NBC’s superb science fiction series Debris, and a starring or featured roles in science fiction or fantasy series that we have enjoyed over the past years.

Our first fond memories of Ms. Copping were in MGM Studios fabled Stargate SG-1 series, followed by Kingdom Hospital, Continuum, Supernatural, Van Helsing, Travelers and many other outstanding roles that Jennifer has been featured in during her fantastic career in the entertainment industry.

Featured in four episodes of Debris series season one, Jennifer Copping’s Julia Maddox character provides valuable insight into the private life with her husband Craig Maddox (Norbert Leo Butz), a team leader at the CIA who is the titular manager of the Orbital Division assigned to track down alien objects, a collaboration between the CIA and MI6 of the United Kingdom. In “Celestial Body” Julia plays a pivotal role along with Irina (Andrea Stefancikova) and her husband, Bryan (Jonathan Tucker), Finola (Riann Steele) and her son Dario (Christian Rose) that includes a special surprise guest appearance of John Noble from Fringe working with George Jones (Tyrone Benskin), Anson Ash (Scroobius Pip) and Loeb (Ben Cotton) of Influx!

Our detailed analysis about this outstanding A PLUS PLUS episode and the Renew Debris news will be published in the near future, so stand by to have your mind blown, or erased as the case may be!

The Julia Maddox story arc resumed in the ninth episode, “Do You Know Icarus“, a time travel reality change episode that gave Debris series viewers more indications Julia’s marriage to Craig has been under extreme stress due to a horrible accident that crippled their son as we learned in the fourth episode called “In Universe” is something that eroded the relationship between Julia and Craig Maddox.

This tragic accident ultimately led to an apparent divorce proceeding in the series that we discussed with Ms. Copping in her extended interview featured below for your enjoyment.

What is most interesting is that in episode ten, “I Am Icarus“, which apparently restored reality in the Debris series, appears to have left an unanswered question; whether or not viewers were returned to the same reality or not?

The season one finale “Celestial Body” airing on Monday May 24, 2021 appears to have addressed these questions with direct evidence, but opened up new questions or areas about Julia and Craig that are to be investigated in the second season of the Debris series.

Jennifer Copping was born on June 9, 1979 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in a town named Sechelt located in an area of the lower Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, approximately 50 kilometers northwest of Vancouver, now known affectionately as Hollywood North.

Beginning her acting, singing and dancing career at a a very early age, Jennifer first appeared in a series called “Booker” followed by appearances in “21 Jump Street” and “Neon Rider” in 1990 and 1991.

Jennifer capped her early career with a supporting role in the beloved fantasy mythology series “Highlander” in 1994.

Of great interest to live stage acting theater lovers, Jennifer was hand-picked by Pete Townshend to play the original “Sally Simpson” in the Toronto, Canada musical stage production of The Who’s “Tommy” in 1995.

Jennifer then went on to appear in the reboot of 1960’s cult television classic science fiction show called “The Outer Limits” with appearances in 1998 and 1999.

As mentioned above, Jennifer Copping initially came to our attention in 2000 with her appearance as a character Mallin in an episode called “New Ground” in the third season of the MGM Studios hit series Stargate SG-1 that went on to a successful ten season run ony SYFY.

SG-1 was filmed primarily in Vancouver like many television series and movies. When we next heard of Jennifer, we our team was watching a trailer for a 2011 pilot series named “Captain Starship”  that featured Stargate celebrities. Team WHR had seen the promotional trailer at a San Diego Comic-Con event and at a Creation Entertainment Stargate convention. Jennifer has also appeared twice in the iconic series “Supernatural” in 2007 and 2014.

Our next reunion with Jennifer, prior to Debris series, was in 2014 when she was featured in “Continuum Series“, followed by a three episode story arc as a character named “Quaid” in the hit science fiction fantasy series “Van Helsing” in 2016.

In late 2020, we were extremely pleased to find out that Ms. Copping would be appearing in the Debris series. Lori and I decided to reach out to catch up with this fine actress. We thank Ms. Copping for the Shout Out above and for her time with an extended interview featured below our mutual enjoyment. We learned much more about Julia Maddox this week in the season one finale “Celestial Body”, and like all science fiction admirers, hope the series is renewed for a second, third, fourth, and fifth season as envisioned by Joel J.H. Wyman!

Please make certain to let NBC know that you want more Debris on NBC on-line and tell everyone you know to watch again  on Peacock TV to help Renew Debris. Thank you!

Aleks Paunovic is an actor whom we have admired for many years. #TeamWHR first had the opportunity to interview Aleks in 2010, when his name was becoming well known around the world.

Now a soaring Canadian star, we became aware of handsome devil Aleks Paunovic during his early acting days when he first appeared in the MGM Studios outstanding Stargate initial series franchise, Stargate SG-1 in 2002, followed by Andromeda in 2003, with subsequent featured roles in Battlestar Galactica in 2005, Eureka in 2006, Stargate Atlantis in 2007, Sanctuary in 2009, Caprica and Human Target both in 2010, as well as many other roles prior to 2010.

Multi-talented Aleks Paunovic has amazed his admirers in his role as Julius, creating much excitement in the Van Helsing story arc as the leader of the clan of vampires out to exterminate the human survivors in season one of the series, at one time capturing lovely Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton) in the series!

Finally, as we concluded our time with Aleks, he was nice enough to do a shout out to one of his greatest admirers, Mona Per. Mona, like Aleks is a nice person who often expresses her admiration for Mr Paunovic on Twitter featuring complimentary pictures and downright fun tweets. Thanks Mona!

It was also very interesting to learn more about Sea Shepherd and the good work they do, helping to preserve the world’s oceans.

Click to visit and follow Roger Cross on Twitter!Roger Cross has been very busy. Many of us first met him as a young actor in small roles for Sliders, Stargate SG1, and 21 Jump Street.

Roger kept on working and building up his resume until he was involved in meatier roles more often.

You can now find Roger on some of our favorite shows as a regular, or recurring character – the original X-Files, and First Wave, to Just Cause, 24, Continuum and now, as Six on Dark Matter.

Helix Banner - Click to visit and follow Helix on Twitter!

Welcome back WormholeRiders to WHR You Decide!

Kyra Zagorsky You Decide 1This past weekend on April 18, 2015 we had the awesome opportunity to interview the fantabulous actress Kyra Zagorsky!

Most recently seen as Julia Walker on the hit television series Helix, and soon to be seen on another sci-fi hit Continuum.

No doubt Syfy certainly knows a good thing (Kyra) when they see it!

We at WHR You Decide know that millions worldwide all have one thing in common beyond loving the series: Renew Helix!

We have now seen Dr. Julia Walker grow through two seasons of Helix.

A strong and intelligent woman, Julia endured multiple events in the first season!

From being infected, thanks to Peter, to learning that her happy summers with mom in Montana were not all entirely real, we .look forward to a third superb season of Helix!

    video
    play-sharp-fill

And on top of all of it, she learns that the brilliant mad scientist Hiroshi Hatake (Hiroyuki Sanada) is her father! In the end, Julia, like Hatake, is an immortal, and her “new” life begins – will Doctor Julia Walker continue his research and protect his legacy? Does she go to work for Ilaria?

Kyra Zagorsky You Decide 2Well, we know from season two that the answer to those questions is a resounding yes – to all of the above. We can joke and say that regarding Amy (Alison Louder), Michael (Steven Weber), and Anne (Severn Thompson), the “apple” did not fall far from the tree (get it?); we can say the same of Julia and Hatake – she is driven like he is, she is willing to sacrifice the few for the good of the many, and seems to not exactly fit in with Ilaria.

Julia has escaped turmoil over the past two years, however it looks like things have caught up with Click to visit and follow Kyra Zagorsky on Twitter!her in the next 30…will she take Soren’s (Jimmy Thorburn) blood and survive? We’ll have to wait and see – if we and the rest of the Helix universe is the fortunate to receive a season 3 (please, please, please!).

The woman behind Julia, Kyra Zagorsky, is just as driven. An entertainer who caught the acting bug in high school and never looked back, with a first love of Shakespeare and the theatre, Kyra has transitioned into film and television.

With roles in the Stargate franchise (Atlantis and SGU) and Smallville and Supernatural, Falling Skies and Soldiers of the Apocalypse, she has found her way into our living rooms many times over. Kyra exudes professionalism in all she does, and that shows through in all forms of media that we see – from the small screen to the big, and even in print.

Kyra Zagorsky You Decide 4Born in the metropolis of New York City but raised in a small town in Colorado, Kyra credits her parents and her formative years with the product that we now know and love.

A master and student of acting, Kyra is often cast in a role that allows her to portray a strong and intelligent woman, often permitting her to use the various martial arts that she has also trained in over the years.

Kyra Zagorsky You Decide 5Dividing her time between Los Angeles, Montreal, and now Vancouver, this mother of two and wife to The Flash’s David Singh (Patrick Sabongui) sat with us to chat about Helix, her career, and a few other tales the other day. Helix season 2 may have concluded, but when you think about it, Continuum season really is just not that far away. So, sit back, put your feet up and take a listen and enjoy – I dare you to not crack a smile while you listen!
