As we bring our coverage to a conclusion with only two more scheduled interviews remaining (including this one), we bring you Bear McCreary, the legendary composer in the Music World Building Press Room at San Diego Comic-Con!

Everyone knows that McCreary is one of the most prolific, talented, and famous composers in the history of movies and scripted television series over the past twenty-five years. His wonderful work includes The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Foundation, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Outlander (2014-2023), Masters of the Universe: Revolution (2024), Snowpiercer, The Walking Dead, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Defiance, Eureka, Caprica, Human Target, Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009) including the entire series, specials and all twenty-first century BSG miniseries, as well as over one hundred twenty-five movies and scripted series that he has creatively composed the music score over his career spanning the past quarter century!

TeamWHR became an admirer of Mr McCreary in 2004 when he composed for the NBC Universal re-imagined Battlestar Galactica science fiction series that was based on the 1978 Glen A. Larson series of the same name.

Now comes Bear McCreary with a new genius effort known as The Singularity that is an epic rock concept album, graphic novel, and concert experience featuring a terrific team that includes Kyle D. Higgins known for Radiant Black and many other entertainment projects, Raya Yarbrough known for La La Land and many other entertainment efforts, and famous Graphic Artist Matias Bergara involved with myriad graphic efforts and novels who we interviewed in the San Diego Comic-Con 2024 “Music World Building” Press Room. We have included these delightfully interesting interviews below for your enjoyment.

Our time with these extremely talented individuals was outstanding as we learned about The Singularity and the aforementioned entertainment projects that encompass the magical Music World Building that accentuates everyone’s experience and enjoyment for movies, scripted science fiction television, streaming series as well as stage plays that they watch and listen to.

Importantly, without music composing in movies, television series and theater stage plays, entertainment would be far less exciting. Music is something that viewers often, but shouldn’t take for granted. We express our genuine thanks to Gary Miereanu for making this fabulous Press Room happen and hope that you enjoyed the Music World Building interviews included above and The Singularity trailer below.

I am thrilled to bring you this update from my journey to the revered San Diego Comic-Con 2024!

With immense pleasure, I recount my invaluable experience at “TRUE NOIR – The Assassination of Anton Cermak – from the Nathan Heller Casebooks,”  a riveting audio drama that pays homage to the iconic radio shows of the 1940s and 1950s.

As an avid admirer of the noir genre, I was truly honored to have received approval for this Press Room on Thursday July 25, 2024 with interviews included below for your enjoyment. Noir fiction, widely regarded as a sub-genre in the realm of film, holds an exceptional place in my heart.

I am currently engrossed in crafting a screenplay that draws inspiration from its compelling essence. The round table interviews provided an unforgettable glimpse into the captivating world of True Noir, and I am eagerly looking forward to sharing more about this enriching experience with all of you.

Thanks to its innovative approach, the True Noir project is a standout in its field. Unlike conventional weekly shows, producers Robert Meyer Burnett and Mike Bawden are crafting an audio experience for their audience. What’s even more intriguing is that this project is part of a Kickstarter Campaign, allowing fans to contribute and become part of the series.

Fans can anticipate immersing themselves in a ten-episode drama adapted from the acclaimed novels of Max Allan Collins, featuring the ‘The Nathan Heller Casebooks’ series, including the highly anticipated nineteenth and twentieth installments.

The series boasts an exceptional voice cast featuring renowned character actors such as Anthony LaPaglia (Road to Perdition), Bill Smitrovich (Air Force One), Don McManus (Vice), Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) and Louis Lombardi (The Sopranos). Despite Katee’s absence, the rest of the cast were a delight to interview, Kris Carr (Starship Troopers: Invasion) was there as well, but alas I wasn’t able to chat with her or Anthony LaPaglia. During the interviews, the actors were asked about their favorite film noir and why they chose it. Bill Smitrovich shared his admiration for ‘The Maltese Falcon‘ starring Humphrey Bogart. At the same time, Lombardi expressed his appreciation for the stylishness of ‘Sin City‘ by Frank Miller despite its departure from traditional noir. Lombardi also revealed his lifelong admiration for James Cagney, proudly displaying a poster of the acting legend from his teenage years in his home.

Don McManus emphasized the creative freedom that comes with voice-over work. According to him, voice-over allows actors to embody any character without the constraints of physical appearance or preconceived expectations. This form of acting liberates performers from the usual pressures of being in front of a camera, opening up a world of limitless possibilities. The listener has the opportunity to engage their imagination, allowing them to vividly visualize the story and immerse themselves in the characters’ lives, experiencing their adventures along the way.

I am delighted to see a resurgence in this unique form of storytelling. Before the era of television, there were captivating radio dramas, brimming with mystery and camp, akin to the narratives found in the pulp novels of yesteryear. This type of entertainment had the remarkable ability to captivate listeners, evoking empathy and feelings of antipathy towards the characters they encountered. The resurgence of this art form is a testament to its enduring appeal and appreciation for its unique storytelling techniques, which the True Noir project is set to revive.

During a conversation, Lombardi pointed out that the experience of doing voice-over work at that time was unlike usual. While you were alone in the booth, the other actors were remotely visible on a screen. This setup meant that interactions between actors differed from typical, but it also allowed for a sense of freedom. Additionally, seeing how the other actors delivered their lines benefited the overall process.

2024-07-25 Louis Lombardi in the True Noir Press Room
Image by Lori of WormholeRiders #TeamWHR

Bill Smirtovich, a brilliant character actor, shared fascinating insights into his early days on the stage with Arthur Miller, illustrating how this experience shaped his ability to bring characters to life across various mediums. What sets this series apart is the intriguing blend of fictional and real characters, with the detective Nathan Heller being the sole creation of the author. Additionally, Collins’s meticulous research brings authenticity to the characters and the real crimes that form the backdrop of his novels, showcasing his masterful storytelling. The evocative original score by Alexander Bornstein effectively transports viewers back to the noir era. The music plays an integral role in the genre, almost like a character, adding depth and emotion to the storytelling.

2024-07-25 Bill Smitrovich at the True Noir Press Room
Image by Lori of WormholeRiders #TeamWHR

Louis Lombardi was a captivating speaker because of his profound appreciation for Cagney. He eloquently delved into the reasons behind Cagney’s excellence, highlighting the complexity of his characters and the valuable lessons he imparted to his fans about toughness. He expressed an optimistic sentiment, hoping that revisiting this medium would provide listeners with a focused and immersive experience, allowing them to engage with the words and characters presented thoroughly.

I hope to see an increase in the number of studios adopting this storytelling style. I also wish that studios revive noir as a prominent genre in the entertainment industry. It’s pretty challenging to come across high-quality noir books or movies. I am optimistic that this rejuvenated storytelling approach will open up new opportunities for actors to showcase their talents uniquely and compellingly. The presentation of this particular form of entertainment provides an opportunity for writers and composers to gain increased visibility. By introducing audiences to fresh content from various artists, the producers aim to create opportunities for talented writers and composers to expand their fanbase and access exciting new projects. The magic of Comic-Con lies in its ability to not only unveil the latest and most thrilling upcoming movies but also to pay homage to the timeless classics of the past. Additionally, the convention offers a platform for genres like noir, which aren’t typically highlighted at such events, introducing them to a fresh audience and potentially revitalizing interest in the genre.

Imagination Connoisseurs Unlimited (ICU) is the innovative company behind this exceptional material. ICU’s mission is to transform genre entertainment by prioritizing the involvement of fans and creators. The description of the ICU’s intentions fills me with hope that major Hollywood studios will consider developing their renditions of this type of entertainment. It would be remarkable to witness an influx of noir or science fiction narratives akin to the style of Orson Welles with The War of the Worlds (1938 radio drama).

Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend the panel for the exciting new series, but fans can eagerly anticipate a 10-episode, six ½-hour serialized audio drama. I am eagerly looking forward to the release of this series in September 2024. For anyone passionate about this form of entertainment, I strongly urge you to consider contributing to the Kickstarter fund, just as I have. Presenting this series at a panel at Comic-Con has significantly boosted their pledges, and they have now surpassed one-third of their funding target.

Additionally, I extend my best wishes to the producers, hoping their hard work pays off and this project becomes a huge success, providing us with years of enjoyable entertainment.

Have you ever pondered the fate of science fiction TV shows on regular television networks? Streaming has now become the preferred mode of consumption. In the past, we enjoyed shows like Star Trek, the original Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Lost in Space, and Land of the Lost, all broadcast on network television. While it was delightful to tune in on a specific day of the week to catch our favorite science fiction stories, this is apparently nearly no more as TeamWHR reported recently.

Streaming giants like Apple TV+, Peacock, and Netflix are now leading the way in offering science fiction shows to fans. It is a fact that the number of science fiction shows pales in comparison to the abundance of cop, doctor, and reality shows that have long dominated streaming apps. These shows have always been the norm for network television, making it a tough environment for new scripted science fiction shows to break through. Even when we do get a new science fiction show, it often struggles to gain the same popularity as the more generic, cookie-cutter shows. In this article we will discuss our favorite streaming series with a fond look back at the good old days of science fiction on network television in the United States.

Shows like Fringe, Farscape, and Firefly were captivating science fiction series that garnered devoted followers but faced challenges due to their ratings. Despite their compelling storylines and high production values, these shows struggled to capture a broader audience. Audiences were primarily familiar with the iconic franchises of Star Trek on television and Star Wars in film. As a result, other science fiction shows found it challenging to resonate with viewers beyond the established realms of these two celebrated series.

The rise of streaming services has brought about significant changes for science fiction scripted shows. Once exclusive to regular television networks, these shows now have a new home on popular streaming platforms like Netflix and Apple TV. This shift has led to increased budgets and more compelling story lines for us, that science fiction series enthusiasts enjoy. With tech giants entering the arena, the genre is experiencing a revival. Despite the occasional unsuccessful endeavor, the future of SciFi on streaming platforms looks promising, and we can look forward to more innovative and captivating shows in the years to come:

    Netflix:

    Stranger Things poster

This streaming service had been late to the game to produce original science fiction series. This was a result of focusing on movies and licensing content from other entertainment studios. Additionally, Netflix mistakes were often caused by poor choices in producing questionable political propaganda programs that turned off viewers.

Netflix wisely changed their offerings beginning in 2016 to produce Stranger Things that has particularly captivated audiences and is set to enter its fifth and final season in 2025.

Stranger Things stars Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder, Paul Reiser, Finn Wolfhard with a strong supporting ensemble cast including Sean Astin. Stranger Things is one of the lucky series that have survived the dreaded wave of cancellations recently affecting many science fiction genre shows on network television.

Original high quality science fiction series have been rare, with many current shows adaptations of existing source material. A standout in the genre was Fringe, which brought a fresh and original concept to the screen. While it explored familiar science fiction themes, it added a darker twist and more profound meaning, setting it apart from its counterparts. Despite facing challenges in its final seasons, dedicated fans rallied to secure a short final season, highlighting the immense impact of fans on the success of the scripted science fiction series. This rarity of original content makes us appreciate the unique and innovative nature of science fiction television shows.

Scripted science fiction series often face a challenge in presenting original story lines, making it a rare occurrence. While many fans gravitate towards common themes in these shows, deviating from the norm can lead to uncertainty among the general television audience. When a science fiction show gets canceled by a network, it usually spells the end of the series. However, the rise of streaming platforms and vocal fan bases has changed this narrative.

Shows like The Expanse have been able to find a new lease on life, with the opportunity to be revived and complete their final seasons. This was evident when The Expanse, initially canceled by the SYFY network, was later revived by Amazon MGM Studios on Prime Video highlighting the power of dedicated fans and streaming services. This empowerment of the audience is a significant shift in the fate of scripted science fiction shows.

    AMC:

    Snowpiercer Season 4 poster

Snowpiercer stars Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright, Iddo Goldberg and Jennifer Connelly originally airing on TNT, will be revived on AMC and AMC+ a streaming service. After being canceled for financial reasons, it has been saved and given a second chance at AMC.

The show will begin its fourth season soon, which is exciting news for existing fans and potential new ones. It is noteworthy that Snowpiercer is based on a movie from 2013 with the same name starring Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton and Ed Harris.

Produced by AMC TV Studios, this series is seen on AMC and AMC+ in the United States. Created by Anna Fishko with episodes directed by John Fawcett, Orphan Black Echoes is a spin off of the original Orphan Black (2013-2017) that Fawcett also directed. This superb new series featured on AMC, Orphan Black Echoes, follows a cloned woman and the women she encounters as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey to determine the mystery of their identities. Starring Krysten Ritter, Keeley Hawes, Amanda Fix, Avan Jogia and featuring a stellar supporting cast, based in part on the hit series Orphan Black starring Tatiana Maslany who is featured in a photograph during the pilot episode of Orphan Black Echoes.

There is a beloved series that fans have been eagerly hoping to see revived – Stargate SG-1. With a massive fan base and a history of rumors about its return to television, the time seems ripe for Stargate’s comeback. With the proliferation of streaming platforms, there is a real opportunity for Stargate to make a triumphant return.

Given its well-established fan base spanning decades, there’s little doubt that Stargate would face challenges in its revival in 2018 with a streaming series named Stargate Origins. It seems like we are in a waiting game now, anticipating the moment when Stargate will finally make its comeback. This potential for revival with an announcement expected soon, hopefully at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 giving us hope for the future of science fiction shows on streaming service networks.

    Peacock:

Xfinity (owned by NBC Comcast) has created an exciting new streaming bundle called “Xfinity Streamsaver” that includes entertainment content from Apple TV, Netflix, Peacock and hopefully other streamers such as Paramount Plus and AMC+.

This means that fans of each platform have a fantastic opportunity to explore various series across the streaming world if they have an Xfinity account.

The new streaming bundle allows viewer users to discover new shows they may not have encountered before or have not had the chance to watch.

    Apple TV:

    Monarch Legacy of Monsters

A noteworthy streaming service provider is Apple TV who has created several original scripted science fiction series. One such series is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, developed by Matt Fraction and Chris Black. The series features talented actors such as Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kurt Russell, and Wyatt Russell. Following the massive success of Godzilla Minus One, “Monarch is set after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans. It reveals that monsters are real and follows one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to Monarch.” The first season is worth watching, mainly if you are a Godzilla fan. The success of this series raises hope for the possibility of more Monsterverse original content.

    Dark Matter cast poster

A recent hit, Dark Matter, not to be confused with Dark Matter (2015-2017) on SYFY, has taken the science fiction world by storm. The captivating SciFi series Dark Matter can be found on Apple TV and was brought to life by creator Blake Crouch, adapted from his novel. The show stars an incredible cast, including Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, and Jimmi Simpson.

The story line follows a “physicist in Chicago who finds himself thrust into a parallel version of his own life. He faces the daunting task of fighting to regain his original life and prevent an alternate version of himself from taking over his family.” Since Dark Matter is a standalone story, Apple TV has not announced whether the series will continue. This may be an opportunity to explore the narrative further with an original concept.

Another hit streaming series on Apple TV is Silo created by Graham Yost. Silo is based on the novel “Wool” by Hugh Howey that is set in a bleak dystopian future where humanity clings to survival deep underground within the confines of a colossal silo.

Starring Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette Nichols, Common as Robert Sims, Tim Robbins as Bernard Holland and Harriet Walter as Martha Walker. In the story arc of season one viewers find Juliette, an engineer tasked with unraveling the mystery behind the death of a colleague uncovering startling secrets that threaten the very fabric of their enclosed world which if larger than it seems!

Regardless of what happens with any of the current scripted science fiction series we have discussed available on streaming services, there is no doubt that the science fiction genre will continue to thrive including on the streaming service Tubi venturing into original content with ads. Let us hope platforms like Tubi will be at the forefront of new and original content.

I hope that as streaming platforms bundle together, we will see an increase in original content. I am hopeful that the mega studios, with their combined power, will recognize the value of original content. As fans, we deserve it. While we enjoy spinoffs and video game adaptations, original content is always the best source of entertainment. I hope the studios allow proven writers to shine again with original stories.

Well, science fiction series fans keep watching those fantastic shows, and someday we will get the new Stargate series that everyone has been longing for!

Welcome back WormholeRiders and Salvage Marines!

San Diego Comic-Con 2022 is currently behind us but certainly not forgotten! Team WHR had the great opportunity to interview three main cast members in the official Press Room and attend the panel which featured the latest trailer (included below) of the upcoming PopCornFlix streaming series Salvage Marines. Salvage Marines is based on the Necrospace book series by Sean-Michael Argo, who helped create the series along with Raphael Jordan and Jamie R. Thompson.

It was my pleasure to sit down with Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers), Peter Shinkoda (iRobot), and Jennifer Wenger (Tales of Halloween). Team WHR had an advantage since we were one of the few press outlets that were allowed to sit down with these three outstanding actors! I must say that Kenn and I had a great time conducting an excellent interview.

What better place to show and introduce a series like Salvage Marines than at San Diego Comic-Con? Where Starship Troopers had a panel 25 years ago (yes, it has been that long) and where science fiction adventure shows are the norm with shows like Fringe, Doctor Who and Firefly over the last decade, Salvage Marines was a delight to behold. It almost goes without saying that in particular, fans of this genre dress up like characters from Star Trek, Stargate, Doctor Who, Star Wars, and Galaxy Quest and we look forward to Salvage Marines Cosplay at future conventions!

Casper Van Dien and Peter Sinkoda, Salvadge Marines panel SDCC 7/21/22

One of the reasons I wanted this interview was Casper Van Dien. As a HUGE fan of Starship Troopers, I would be remiss not to get a chance to sit down and talk with Johnny Rico! Casper, Peter, and Jennifer were so much fun in the interview, and I could see their dynamic in person translate beautifully on the screen to the series.

Salvage Marines harkens back to the older science fiction days when the original Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Star Trek, and Doctor Who were seen on the airways. It gives you that sense of nostalgia while still maintaining the current political and social climates today. Corporate greed and life debt are the definite themes in this series, how once you accrue the debt in your life, you spend the rest of it trying to, albeit unsuccessfully, repay that debt. If that debt is not paid, it gets transferred to your children, and so on. Salvage Marines is the only way to repay it. However, the mortality rate is very high, so if you cannot make it, then your family will be the ones that have to be burdened with your debt.

Jennifer Wenger and Linara Wasghington Salvadge Marines panel SDCC 7/21/22

The Salvage Marines panel featured the trailer (above) for the upcoming series, many other cast members, and the director of the whole series, Shaun-Paul Piccinino (Lady Driver), and co-creator Rafael Jordan (Ride the Lightning). Kevin Porter (Heroes with Issues), Shane Graham (The Son), and Linara Washington (Casting the Net) rounded out the cast at the panel for this beautiful series. Legendary actor Armand Assante (Mambo Kings) was missing from the panel, but his presence was still felt throughout, with the main actors praising him and his skill. Jennifer Wenger commented to me during the interview before the panel that she would go and watch him on set, even if she wasn’t needed that day, because he is such a legend, and you can learn so much from watching actors like him.

Casper Van Dien as Samuel Hyst in Salvage Marines

During the panel, Casper said something exciting; he noted that almost all space or science fiction shows were Westerns in space. He said Starship Troopers, Star Wars, and Firefly are all based on the formula of a Western; he said, “we are out there cowboying, cowgirling it.” Knowing that he said that and seeing all the movies he mentioned makes sense.

Linara Washington also made a great point about science fiction; it’s one of the only inclusive genres. No matter who you are or what you look like, you are accepted in that world. It’s kind of like the island of misfit toys, only better. “It’s almost at the forefront of things that are happening; it’s like having a blueprint before things actually go down.” The series feels relatable, even though it is “based in the far future” as Rafael Jordan noted, “their problems are our problems; it helps put you into the story.”

2022-07-21 Peter Shinkoda Jennifer Wenger and Casper Van Dien in the Salvage Marines Press Room
Image by Team WHR WormholeRiders News Agency

One significant point Peter Shinkoda brought up during our interview and reinforced during the panel is that Salvage Marines “drops us into a specific time…we all start the same place. It doesn’t matter your age, social status, and certainly not your race puts us on a playing field; we are all under the same common denominator. We all face the same obstacles”. That is why the sci-fi genre is much more inclusive, and you will always see more diverse casts than in any other genre.

    Salvage Marines web site poster

I am happy that shows like this are being made on smaller streaming platforms like PopCornFlix. I am looking forward to people discovering the series, and I am sure the book series fans will appreciate and enjoy the series. Having an actor like Casper Van Dien at the helm of this series is a no-brainer; his resume speaks for itself. When you are part of one of the most iconic, cult-favorite sci-fi bug movies, who else would you want to lead the way? It helps that he has his friends like Peter Shinkoda and his wife Jennifer Wenger with him in the series, as it lends itself more to the believability of the situation.

Kevin Porter Salvadge Marines panel SDCC 7/21/22
Image by Lori Glumac for WormholeRiders News Agency

There were some fun antics that the actors talked about during the panel. One such was when Kevin Porter, who plays Boss Wynn Masters, was reciting a monologue to his Marines, and the camera was on them; he forgot some of the monologues and started reciting Beauty and the Beast, “A tale as old as time” which made some of the cast almost break character, he even warned Jennifer with a visual cue not to break character or he would as well. I always like hearing about things like that on a set; viewing the series is much more fun. Shane Graham also mentioned how one of the other cast members, Ashley Mary Nunes (Beasts of the Field), pretty much outran everyone on set, and when he was in a scene with her, she got into a ditch, she was jumped into a 12-foot ditch and he “was like 30 seconds behind her.” It was a laugh for everyone in the panel and a cheering session for Ashley as she stood up and waved at all of us in the panel.

With Star Trek being the one science fiction show that dominates the airways, it is nice to see another type of show that can be added to the Sci-Fi list. Especially when you have a veteran like Casper at the front of the series, it makes it much more acceptable. I hope you get the chance to watch these great excellent series on Popcornflix and help bring more series like this to this streaming service and others.

Thank you to Casper, Jennifer, and Peter for the great interview and the rest of the cast and filmmakers for the fun and insightful panel. I look forward to seeing the reactions to this new series and hope there will be more seasons in the future. Salvage Marines premieres TODAY July 28th, 2022 on PopCornFlix!

Here at Team WHR we continue our SDCC 2017 coverage of Van Helsing when we were honored to be invited to interview several of the series stars at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 courtesy of the great team at SYFY.

Our next special interview if none other than the awesome Aleks Paunovic who portrays the nefarious Julius in Van Helsing

Aleks Paunovic stars with main cast members Kelly Overton, Jonathan Scarfe, Rukiya Bernard, Christopher Heyerdahl, Laura Mennell, and a very talented ensemble cast in the hit series now entering a second season.

Aleks Paunovic is an actor whom we have admired for many years. #TeamWHR first had the opportunity to interview Aleks in 2010, when his name was becoming well known around the world.

Now a soaring Canadian star, we became aware of handsome devil Aleks Paunovic during his early acting days when he first appeared in the MGM Studios outstanding Stargate initial series franchise, Stargate SG-1 in 2002, followed by Andromeda in 2003, with subsequent featured roles in Battlestar Galactica in 2005, Eureka in 2006, Stargate Atlantis in 2007, Sanctuary in 2009, Caprica and Human Target both in 2010, as well as many other roles prior to 2010.

Then began the meteoric rise of Aleks Paunovic, with roles with in a return to Smallville, followed by many more including; Republic of Doyle, Once Upon a Time, Psych, Arctic Air, The 100, Continuum, Supernatural, Motive, all ultimately culminating in starring roles for Aleks in War for the Planet of the Apes, and naturally, one of our favorite SYFY series, Van Helsing!

Multi-talented Aleks Paunovic has amazed his admirers in his role as Julius, creating much excitement in the Van Helsing story arc as the leader of the clan of vampires out to exterminate the human survivors in season one of the series, at one time capturing lovely Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton) in the series!

Imagine our, and everyone’s sheer delight to learn that not only is Aleks character Julius returning in season two of Van Helsing on SYFY, and to ice the cake so to speak, Aleks Paunovic appeared in San Diego for his first time at Comic-Con 2017 representing the series before he will return to our screens later this year in 2017!

Finally, as we concluded our time with Aleks, he was nice enough to do a shout out to one of his greatest admirers, Mona Per. Mona, like Aleks is a nice person who often expresses her admiration for Mr Paunovic on Twitter featuring complimentary pictures and downright fun tweets. Thanks Mona!

We enjoyed our time with Aleks in the Press Room for Van Helsing, and hope that you enjoy our interview with this amazing actor. Thanks again Aleks!

Dark Matter Finds its Way to Gatecon! An Interview with Roger Cross, Jodelle Ferland and Mike Dopud!

    Gatecon 2016 The Homecoming-banner

Welcome Dark Matter lovers and WormholeRiders,

Gatecon 2016 The Homecoming PosterI recently covered an exciting event in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Gatecon 2016 The Homecoming!

During Gatecon 2016 in Vancouver, the organizers invited Stargate actors who had also appeared in, or had become regular talent for the show in Dark Matter’s first two seasons.

WormholeRiders News Agency were invited to interview the actors who were available. Thus, Roger Cross, Jodelle Ferland and Mike Dopud were happy to talk with us about their time in Stargate and now, Dark Matter.

    play-sharp-fill

Click to visit and follow Sea Shepherd on Twitter! The entire event, Gatecon 2016 The Homecoming, was set up to support Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS), an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization.

People from at least 26 countries attended, demonstrating that there is still much love for Stargate out there.

It was also very interesting to learn more about Sea Shepherd and the good work they do, helping to preserve the world’s oceans.

Click to visit and follow Roger Cross on Twitter!Roger Cross has been very busy. Many of us first met him as a young actor in small roles for Sliders, Stargate SG1, and 21 Jump Street.

Roger kept on working and building up his resume until he was involved in meatier roles more often.

You can now find Roger on some of our favorite shows as a regular, or recurring character – the original X-Files, and First Wave, to Just Cause, 24, Continuum and now, as Six on Dark Matter.

Click to visit and follow Jodelle Ferland on Twitter!Jodelle Ferland had a somewhat earlier start in her career. She was born in 1994, and her first fore into acting began in 1999, so she began her career at the age of 5.

Jodelle also appeared in Smallville, Dead Like Me and Supernatural, and of course as 7 year old Adria on Stargate SG-1.

She later appeared in movies like Twilight, Cabin in the Woods and the Video Game Bio Shock 2.

Jodelle’s latest success is, of course, as Five on Dark Matter!

Click to visit and follow Mike Dopud on Twitter!Mike Dopud joined us as well. He has also been very busy. Besides his guest appearances on Stargate SG 1 and Stargate Atlantis, Mike Dopud has also appeared in Stargate Universe, Battlestar Galactica and Supernatural.

Mike has appeared as a recurring character on popular American series, Mistresses and Cedar Cove. Recently, he appeared as a recurring character on Dark Matter. His character, Arax Nero, although disgraced, did not die. So, it is quite possible that he will be back.

Until the beginning of Season 3, we hope you enjoyed our interview with the Dark Matter actors from Gatecon 2016. I will be back soon with another exclusive interview conducted at Gatecon 2016 The Homecoming!

Alex Zahara: An In-Depth Interview with One of Vancouver Canada’s Most Versatile Talents!

Hello Alex Zahara fans,Click to visit and learn more about Alex Zahara at his official web site!

We have a real treat for you in none other that a 90 minute interview with one of our favorite actors Mr. Alex Zahara!

Often referred to as the science fiction actor “you never knew”, Alex is a Canadian actor who has appeared in many famous television series such as Babylon 5 (TV movie), Andromeda, The Outer Limits, Stargate SG-1, Fringe, Supernatural, Smallville, Blood Ties, Battlestar Galactica and Sanctuary.

Alex Zahara as Michael in Stargate SG-1 (1969)Perhaps even more interesting, Alex Zahara has also appeared in the many recent feature films including 2012, Marley & Me: The Puppy Years, Gunless and others. The characters that Alex has played have often been aliens, requiring face makeup and prosthetics.

This factor, of course, has provided him with the unique ability to avoid being type cast as indicated by his huge list of ongoing and past theatrical accomplishments including False Creek Stories, Earth’s Final Hours, Riverworld, Ice Twisters, Impact (TV mini series movie), Storm Cell, Ogre, Taming Tammy, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (voice over English version), The Keeper and The 13th Warrior to name but a few!

Alex Zahara as Michael in Stargate SG-1 (1969)

Alex continues to keep very busy auditioning for roles and attending science fiction conventions. In the following interview, conducted on July 08, 2011 Alex Zahara shares his experiences on Stargate and Sanctuary, his opinions about Reality TV and what it’s been like working as an actor in Vancouver, what is happening in the industry there and even whether or not he will join Twitter in the future!

We hope you enjoy listening to Alex as much as we did in conducting the interview!

HILTON VANCOUVER AIRPORT (Writer’s venue)Click to visit the Hilton Vancouver Airport!
    5911 Minoru Blvd, Richmond, BC

This is going to be a bigger convention for us due to interest from several science fiction productions filmed in Canada, we decided to design StarCon like a Canadian version with roots similar to Comic Con with a bit of Dragon Con thrown in. The idea is to make it easier and more cost effective for Canadian made productions to market their shows to the fans. It also gives the fans an opportunity to ask their favourite actors questions at Q&A Panels.

We are planning some fun events and many opportunities to get up close and personal with the actors who will be attending. Expect a casual convention with lots of humor and general silliness.
