The Ark Analysis Pretty Big Deal – Kelly Is Saved But What About The Wrath of the Clones?

    Welcome Back The Ark fans,

The sixth episode completes the first half of The Ark season two establishing the adventures viewers will be looking forward to in the second half of the season.

Viewers have witnessed wonderful writing of superb stories in the first five episodes. Beginning with “Failed Experiment” the crew decides the best way forward after a number of Ark-15 crew members decide to join Ark-1.

The first episode effectively sets up “Kill of Be Killed”, when Ark-15’s new crew members present questions of who can be trusted and what Ark-1 should do with them.

This leads to  episode three “Anomaly” when a deep space electrical creature nearly destroys Ark-1’s electrical system as they are traveling to Ark-3 to salvage desperately needed parts for Ark-1 to be able to make the journey to a planet where they can reestablish humanity.

Upon arrival at Ark-3 in episode four “The Other You” finds our heroes quantum entangled with an alternate version of Ark-1 trapping them in a deep space void with two characters swapping universes until our heroes in both realities figure out how to escape.

In episode five, “Museum of Death”, the viewers learn secrets about several crew members that eloquently sets up episode six “Really Big Deal” when the crew of Ark-1 receives a distress call from Ark-8 that crash landed on a planet that was discovered a year after Ark-1 left Earth.

The scenario and costumes on the planet are similar to a desolate planet in Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan in that the Ark-8 crash survivor’s are motivated by obsessive compulsive emotions that Khan (Ricardo Montaban) exhibited towards Captain Kirk (William Shatner) during the classic 1982 science fiction film that saved the Star Trek franchise.

What our Ark-1 heroes learn is nonetheless shocking when it is revealed that advanced technologies are part of the Ark-8 survivors on a planet named “Raynick-J” that was discovered a year after Ark-1 left Earth. What our heroes experience is a turn of events that may adversely affect their journey to join the other Arks headed towards Trappist-1D!

    Really Big Deal:

The Ark S2x06 Eastern Federation shuttle from Ark-3 towing parts to Ark-1

This exquisite episode was written by John-Paul Nickel and directed by Milan Konjevic focuses on several story arcs that have been percolating over the first five episodes of season two. “Really Big Deal” begins with Captain Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke) directing Eva Markovic (Tiana Upcheva) to complete retrieving parts needed from Ark-3 including Lt. James Brice (Richard Fleeshman) piloting an Eastern Federation shuttle from Ark-3 to dock with Ark-1.

Captain Garnet directs Security Chief Felix Strickland (Pavle Jerinic) to inspect the cargo and spare parts taken from Ark-3 while Alicia Nevins (Stacey Read) notes that the nose of the ship still says Ark-3 after it replaced the damaged section of Ark-1 during the previous episode. Captain Garnet tells Alicia not to worry since Lt. Spencer Lane (Reece Ritchie) is taking care of that detail as they speak, rebranding the Ark-3 nosecone to reflect that it is now part of Ark-1. The bridge crew claps in unison when the cargo, shuttle and rebranding are complete.

We move to the Ark-1 cargo areas where the crew, including Kimi Joma (Díana Bermudez) from Ark-15, Felix’s new security adjutant, as well as Alicia, Spencer, and Sharon open a time capsule like box recovered from Ark-3.

The crew are pleasantly surprised when they discover that it contains beloved memorabilia from Earth including a guitar, baseball equipment, children’s toys, yarn and knitting needles and other items that none of them thought they would ever see again.

The Ark S2x06 Captain Garnet invites Dr Marsh to an Ark-1 meeting
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Captain Garnet informs the Ark-1 Council that the newly attached Ark-3 nosecone has new private rooms for each of them when she calls for a staff meeting that includes Dr. Sanjivni Kabir (Shalini Peiris), Eva, Felix, Kimi Alicia, Lt Brice and Lt Lane.

Captain Garnet also invited Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich) who joined Ark-1 from Ark-15 to discuss a pressing problem; Kelly Fowler (Samantha Glassner) who has been found to have explosives placed in the skull of her enhanced body by evil Evelyn Maddox (Jelena Stupljanin).

The Ark S2x06 Dr Marsh tells Kelly the truth about her implants
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Dr Kabir and Dr Marsh with help from Jelena Griff (Tamara Radovanovic) share they plan to deactivate the explosive gel implanted in Kelly’s skull and plan to surgically remove the explosives but it’s a “Pretty Big Deal” so that Kelly will no longer be a threat to herself or others should Evil Evelyn go back on her word that included not activating the human bomb that Kelly.

However, we are left to wonder if Kelly and William Trust (Paul Leonard Murray) who are both still locked up, has learned to control her implants using the alternate reality wrist device that Alt Cat (Christina Wolf) gave her during the fourth episode “The Other You”? We shall learn more about this factor near the end of this episode.

The Ark S2x06 Lati and Kimi discuss Brice as a suspected Eastern Federation spy

We then move to the Bio Dome Shelter where Lati Meir (Coral Mizrachi) and Kimi are chatting about their own agenda; finding out Lt. Brice’s secrets, and if he or Eva were in any way involved with the Eastern Federation.

Lati, who has been taking care of things in the Bio Dome Shelter while Angus Medford (Ryan Adams) was recovering from his injuries thanks to a blood transfusion from Kelly, says she “hopes they don’t lose the chief engineer (Eva)” if what they suspect is true.

The Ark S2x06 Angus and Alicia discuss the situation on the Ark-1 Bridge
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Just when viewers think that all is well with Ark-1, her crew, and the two locked up passengers, as they are about to enter FTL, Angus heads to the Bridge to chat with Alicia who informs him as she is checking communications logs from the Ark-3 computers that contain later information than Ark-1.

The Bridge crew discover that other Ark type ships may have saved more people from Earth. Unfortunately, Alicia reads communications documenting that the Eastern Federation ships are the only ones with weapons! Alicia and Angus hope the Eastern Federation are not headed to Trappist-1D!

The Ark S2x06 Drs Kabir and Marsh with Jelena Griff remove Kelly's explosive implant
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

We are then in the operating room where Dr. Marsh and Dr. Kabir with Jelena’s help are operating on Kelly to remove the explosive implants from her skull.

The procedure is a success with Kelly asking them to remove more of the artificial implants placed there by Evil Evelyn. Dr. Marsh informs Kelly that unlike the explosives the implants are integrated directly into her body and cannot be removed. This leaves Kelly to think about finding out how she can use the wrist device to control her implants.

The Ark S2x06 Captain Garnet orders a rescue mission
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Back on the Bridge, we learn that the planet Raynick-J, although with a breathable atmosphere, has high levels of radiation that will be fatal to humans if exposed for longer than a week. Alicia finds an FTL energy signature of the crashed Ark-8. Captain Garnet orders the now repaired Ark-1 to effect a rescue attempt using a shuttle to determine if there are any Ark-8 survivors.

Leading the mission are Captain Garnet that includes Dr. Kabir, Felix, Kimi, Lt. Brice and Lt. Lane. During the trip to land on the planet, Kimi questions Lt. Brice if he knew one of her friends named Maurisa Yi at the pilot GSA academy? Based on the Lt. Brice’s facial expressions the answer is an uncomfortable yes. However, Lt. Brice denies it, setting up a future part of the back story for the series

The Ark S2x06 Ark-8 crash survivors
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Once on Raynick-J, the rescue mission team confirms that the conditions are indeed bleak with parts of Ark-8 having broken up prior to landing. Now at the crash site location, a shuttle is observed near where our heroes do find survivors, but with a huge twist: They’re clones with one revealed to be a duplicate of Lt. Spencer Lane named Ian!

Referred to as Gen2 clones, they are apparently the last version of stable clones before humanity escape a doomed Earth. The Gen2 clone named Ian confronts Lt. Spencer Lane that he too is a clone since four were made of each person copied. Although Lt. Lane denies it, viewers will recall that Captain Garnet is one of the clones herself that designed to be able survive under the harsh environmental conditions on other planets and in space.

The Ark S2x06 Dr Kabir helps the injured Ark-8 survivors

Does this mean that there is another Captain Garnet? We shall see! Dr. Kabir tends to the injuries that some of the clones suffered when they crash landed, Kabir also relates that cloning was utilized by several corporate factions for their own purposes. The Gen2 clones worked with other abandoned clones to commander Ark-8 that had not been assigned a crew before it left planet Earth.

Later we also learn that other clones, referred to as Gen3’s, have been attacking the Gen2’s since the crash and have a tendency to become violent.

The Ark S2x06 Potatoes for Vodka

Viewers will recall that Angus has been acting a bit depressed lately.

This is because Angus no longer feels that he is needed in the Bio Dome Shelter since Lati has been doing an apparently fabulous job taking care of the Bio Dome Shelter.

In an enjoyable scene while the two are in the Bio Dome Shelter, Lati and Angus strike up a friendship after Angus learns that Lati had made some mistakes.

Lati says “That’s why we need you here”.

In a really fun bit of character interaction, Angus says that Lati has “planted too many potatoes”.

“Not if you want more Vodka” says Lati! “More Vodka?” retorts Angus as they take a few slugs of the alcohol while discussing the romantic pairings on Ark-1!

The Ark S2x06 Brice is saved by Lane as they fight off the Gen3 clones
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Back on the planet, the Gen3’s have an agenda of their own, to escape. It then it becomes obvious that the Gen3 clones plan to take control of the Ark-1 shuttle. Several of the Gen3’s attack the survivor’s encampment with two having sabotaging the shuttle and jumping Lt. Brice. Lt. Lane comes to the rescue and they are able to repair the damage caused by the crazed Gen3 clones.

Captain Garnet orders the evacuation of the planet indicating they will return to take the Gen3 clones into protective custody. Instead the Gen2’s and the rescue team are barely able to escape with Gen3 clones hanging off the shuttle.

    video

The Ark S2x06 Ian the Spencer Lane clone warns not to save the Gen3 clones

As the episode winds down, Ian the Spencer clone is observed having a meal with the command team warning Captain Garnet that the Gen3 clones cannot be trusted. Dr. Kabir says that it “could take months to implement, longer to perfect” a gene therapy to fix the Gen3 clones.

While Ian and Spencer are talking about what happened to each of them, Spencer still denies that he is a clone. Ian then shares that all clones have a tattoo on their left heel. We learn at the end of the episode that Spencer does not have a visible tattoo, but does have a scar where the tattoo would have been, indicating that his tattoo was surgically removed.

The Ark S2x06 Kimi shares with Lati that Brice did know Maurisa Yi

As the episode concludes, we learn four more story arc important details.

First, we learn that Maurisa Yi was Lt. Brice’s protégé at the SGA academy when Kimi shows Lati a picture of Yi and Brice together. Lati then ties this fact to her hypothesis that Eva, who destroyed her criminal records from Ark-3 in the previous episode, and Lt. Brice must be Eastern Federation spies! We also learn that Eva’s lover, an Eastern Federation Engineer, died mysteriously after coming out of cryogenic sleep on Ark-1 AND that Eva’s record is not only “spotless”, Eva was wearing a different uniform meaning that Kimi and Lati have confirmed that Eva scrubbed her records file!

The Ark S2x06 Kelly gives the hand device to William Trust

Second, we find Kelly talking through the damage hole in the cell walls with William Trust who asks her if she has was taught by Alt Cat how to use the wrist device to control her implants?

When Kelly admits that she doesn’t know how to do that, Trust offers to help. Naïve Kelly agrees. We think this could be a mistake on Kelly’s part with Trust either planning revenge against Kelly and/or the crew of Ark-1!

The Ark S2x06 Alicia wastes no time in kissing Angus

Third, Angus works up some courage and decides to go see Alicia with a flower he harvested with Lati’s help from the Bio Dome Shelter. Obviously nervous, Angus almost doesn’t knock on the door.

Alicia, sensing this is their moment, wastes absolutely no time giving Angus a big kiss officially confirming the two will become romantic lovers!

The Ark S2x06 Huge explosion on the surface of the planet

Fourth, after Felix prepares to bring the first batch of Gen3 clone survivors onboard Ark-1, any thoughts of returning to the planet to salvage FTL parts will be abandoned when an explosion is witnessed on the planet with Lt. Brice and Kimi in the shuttle heading back to the planet to rescue more Gen3’s. Did the Ark-8 FTL drive explode by itself on the surface of the Planet near the crash site? Or did some of the Gen3’s commit suicide to hide something from the crew of Ark-1?

The Ark Review and Analysis – The Other You is Absolutely Awesome Alternate Reality!

    Welcome Back The Ark fans,

    The Ark Season 2 poster
    Images courtesy SYFY

This second season continues with this exciting episode as another disaster befalls our heroes who cannot seem to catch as break! The fabulous fourth episode of season 2 is one of our favorites since it deals with an alternate reality likely caused by a quantum entanglement as a result of an unstable wormhole when Ark-1 was exiting Faster Than Light (FTL) travel at the end of previous episode “Anomaly”.

This excellent episode written by Madeline Hendricks Lewen is fantastic not only because the writer does a superb job, but because the story in this superb episode provides the main cast an opportunity to portray alternate versions of themselves that highlights their awesome acting talent.

In that last sequence of the previous episode, Lt. James Brice (Richard Fleeshman) disappeared after Ark-1 had been traveling to Ark-3 to obtain spare part to fully repair the FTL drive. Due to damage suffered at Proxima B, Ark-1 needed parts for their longer journey to rejoin the remnants of humanity now headed to a new life at the Trappist 1D solar system.

Star Trek - Captain Kirk and Alt Mr Spock in Mirror, Mirror

In modern science fiction television, the 1967 Star Trek original series episode “Mirror, Mirror” set the stage for alternate reality versions of the main characters. Viewers will recall that the Enterprise was sent to an alternate reality where it is in the service of a brutal evil Empire with a equally barbaric crew.

In “Mirror, Mirror” the Enterprise encountered an ion storm sending four crew members including Captain Kirk (William Shatner) to an alternative reality universe after they were negotiating with an alien race for Dilithium crystals that are the warp drive energy source for the Federation Starship fleet.

Fringe S4x02 - The Olivias together in next episode

Similarly, the fabulous Fringe series (2008-2013), and as depicted in many other science fiction series, viewers know about an alternate version of characters between universes, even observing both versions of the Olivia Dunham character in many episodes of this beloved science fiction series.

Fringe fans will recall that a murdered Alternate Inspector Broyles (Lance Reddick) arrived in the “prime universe” when his dead body was transferred from the “alternate universe” as an exchange with Alt Livia (Anna Torv) who had been on a spy mission in our universe after she was returning to her own alternate universe.

    The Other You:

2024-08-07 Eva and the crew are shocked that Lt Brice disappeared

As mentioned above, the episode wonderfully written by Madeline Hendricks Lewen, directed by Milan Todorovic begins where we left off with Lt. James Brice disappearing right in front of Captain Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke), Lt. Spencer Lane (Reece Ritchie), Eva Markovic (Tiana Upcheva), Sasha Novak (Milos Cvetkovic), and Jelena Griff (Tamara Radovanic).

However, what actually happened is that Ark-1 and an alternate universe version were exiting FTL at the exact same time, causing the quantum entanglement that traps the two ships in a starless void. As for the vanishing of Lt. Brice, that is precisely where this fascinating fourth episode of season two begins with a number of events that delighted the viewers at an X party the night of the broadcast!

2024-08-07 Alicia says there is no Ark-3 and no stars outside Ark-1

Alicia Nevins (Stacey Read) runs in to the Ark-1 FTL engine control room to alert everyone that something “weird” is happening.

The ship did not drop out of FTL near Ark-3 where they were supposed to.

Alicia also notes the weirdness is further accentuated in that there are no stars that are visible outside Ark-1 because they are in a starless black void!

The Ark S2x04 Cat Brandice from the alternate universe
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

We are then apparently with Cat Brandice (Christina Wolfe) who had died during the first episode of the season in “Failed Experiment”.

As science fiction admirers know, characters come back to life in SciFi series!

I for one was happy to see Cat again!

However, viewers were at first left scratching their heads over this development until the reason for her apparent survival becomes clear.

2024-08-07 Cat wonders why Ark-1 is so damaged while calling Spencer Commander

We witness Cat getting out of a stasis pod calling for “Will”. Cat is referring to her lover William Trust (Paul Leonard Murray). We then see Cat walking down a hallway where she sees a flabbergasted William Trust and runs to hug him.

Captain Garnet and the prime reality crew soon learn that Cat is actually a duplicate from another Ark-1 in an alternate reality timeline. We learn that Alternate Cat must have switched places with Lt. Brice during the quantum entanglement exchange with the alternate universe.

The Ark S2x04 Alicia tells them about the quantum entanglement
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

The scene switches back to the Ark-1 control room where Captain Garnet, Eva, Lt. Spencer and Alicia are struggling to comprehend what has transpired and why they cannot see any stars.

Captain Garnet suspects that the ships cameras are not working while Alicia says they are in a black “void”. Garnet, Spencer and Alicia run to Captain Garnets room which has exterior viewing windows. When they arrive they confirm that there are in fact no stars!

The Ark S2x04 Felix and Kimi find Alt Cat
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Security Chief Felix Strickland (Pavle Jerinic) and Kimi Joma (Díana Bermudez), former head of Ark-15 security now serving with Felix on Ark-1 as a security officer, urgently call with an urgent message to meet them in the mess hall.

Sure enough, William Trust and Cat are sitting at a table together. To make matter stranger, Cat refers to Lt. Spencer as Commander Spencer, and Cat, an American in the prime universe, now has a decidedly delightful British accent proving she is not the same Cat who was killed in “Failed Experiment“.

The Ark S2x04 Alt Cat and Prime William Trust
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Events continue to bear out that Cat is from another alternate universe when she states that William Trust is her husband and that James Brice died in her universe some ten years ago when he thwarted a terrorist attack on the lunar colony that no one survived, including Lt. Spencer’s father.

Lt. Spencer demands answers believing that Cat is not who she claims to be. Captain Garnet on the other hand, realizes that something odd has happened and that they must investigate to get the answers they require to explain this alternate reality manifestation.

2024-08-07 Dr Kabir helps Dr Marsh in the medical bay

Prime universe genius Alicia provides a credible explanation that Ark-1 never dropped out of FTL and became quantum entangled between the versions of reality that Cat and our heroes are experiencing. Felix if such a phenomena is possible. William Trust confirms that it is not only possible, but is the only logical explanation for what has happened. Alicia is asked by Captain Garnet how they can be “quantum untangled”. Alicia admits that she does not know, but will work on the problem.

We make a stop in the medical bay where Dr. Sanjivni Kabir (Shalini Peiris) is helping Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich) diagnose patients much to his annoyance. Kabir says she is bored while Marsh says she must get more rest before she can return to duty.

The Ark S2x03 Kelly is locked up
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

We shift to Kelly, who although locked up, is hearing voices, including Lt. Brice trapped in the alternate universe. Kelly is released by Captain Garnet, Fleix and Kimi who leads them to a wall where she says the voices of William Trust and Lt. Brice are emanating from, Alt William questioning Lt, Brice asking who he is since he died a decade ago in their universe.

The episode focuses on the Ark-1 in the prime universe is about finding a solution to fixing why Lt. Brice and Cat switched universe realities. There are many enjoyable bits by Alt Cat who goes by her full name of Catrina and sports a British accent. The crew are dealing with the Kelly who Alt Cat is able to figure out since artificially enhanced humans, called “Post Humans” in this episode, were her specialty in the alternate universe. Alt Cat decides to help Kelly which will be revealed at the end of the episode. We also learn that Helena (Mercedes De La Cruz) was a manipulative bitch in both realities, and that William Trust is a good person in the alternate reality.

2024-08-07 Alt Eva smacks Lt Brice in the alternate universe

Prime universe Alicia shares that the only way to break the linkage between the two realities is to move Ark-1 to physically un-entangle the two versions of Ark-1.

We then are in the alternate universe with a stark naked Lt. Brice and the alt Ark-1 crew members who are shocked to see him. Not the naked part, but that in their alternate reality Brice died saving the lunar colony from an attack by Eastern Alliance soldiers. Alt Eva then smacks prime Lt Brice for being naked while making provocative statements as Alt Sasha enters the FTL control room.

A fun series of alternate antics begins to take place with Alt Sasha calling Brice a pervert for exposing his “junk hanging out” and chases Prime Universe reality Brice around the Ark-1 FTL engine control room.

Alternate Felix and his security assistant alternate Angus Medford (Ryan Adams) are alerted. They decide to separate to find the intruder, Prime Universe Brice, now trapped in the alternate universe reality version of Ark-1. This sets up several more enjoyable scenes with the cast performing alternate versions of themselves in humorous scenes.

2024-08-07 Alt Alicia is Chief of Waste Management

Brice, now dressed and calmed down finds a disheveled Alt Sharon Garnet Prime Brice. She starts gushing over his eyes that she has missed. Alt Sharon tells Prime Brice that they were to be married before he was killed saving the lunar colony. Prime reality Brice finds Alt Alicia Nevins, chief of waste management in the alternate reality, to figure out how to fix the quantum entangled mess they are in! Alt Alicia says she’s a only a genius about garbage and “purifying urine” and that prime reality Brice needs Alt William Trust to figure it all out. Alt Angus shows up and calls Alt Alicia his “babe” thereby proving that some things stay the same in either of the entangled universes! Prime Brice makes the mistake of calling Alt Angus “Plant Boy” who then beats Prime Brice to a pulp with his stun baton! Alt Alicia, who believed Prime Brice, knocks out Alt Angus with his own stun baton because Alt Angus cheated on her last week, and they should “hook up to even the score” before kicking At Angus.

Meanwhile Prime Brice seeks out Alt William Trust who still has Klampkins disease, is still in a stasis pod while his Alt wife Cat’s pod is empty proving the mass displacement quantum entanglement theorem. Alt Trust explains that both Ark-1 ships dropping out of FTL caused the quantum entanglement. They go to see Captain Oliver Lane (Howard Saddler) who is Spencer Lane’s father in the alternate universe. Prime Brice and Captain Lane begins to develop a plan to set things right once again by stopping Alt Ark-1 and sending a binary signal that both Arks must move in opposite directions to send Prime Brice and Alt Cat back to where they belong! During the flashes we briefly see Naomi Spencer (Jessica Yemi) in the Prime Reality.

The Ark S2x04 Alt Sharon kisses Prime Reality Brice goodbye

We move to a conclusion finding a heartbroken Alt Sharon outside the Alt Ark-1 bridge to say goodbye to Prime Reality Brice. Alt Sharon who lost her future husband in the alternate reality gives Prime Brice a kiss.

Despite Alt William Trust not including which direction to move each ship, Prime Alicia figures it out and Lt. Brice returns to Prime Ark-1 (stark naked) once again this time getting a huge hug from Eva! Then we see William Trust sobbing over Alt Cat’s empty clothing knowing he will never see the woman he loves again.

    2024-08-07 Kimis mission is revealed

The last two scenes of the episode begin with Kimi sitting down with Lt. Brice questioning him about the lunar colony mission Brice was a hero of in the alternate reality, and if he was involved in this reality.

Lt. Brice says no, but if he had been, no one would have died. Here we find out what Kimi’s mission in this reality, obviously Brice didn’t go on the lunar mission as he was supposed to, and someone Kimi loved perished there, so it appears Kimi is seeking revenge!

2024-08-07 Alt Cat leaves a message for Kelly

We end the episode when we are with Kelly who is being returned to captivity. Inside her cell, Kelly finds a computing device with message from Alt Cat that she is now in control of her “POST” human enhancements.

Will everything else be okay on Ark-1 now that we know about Kimi’s secret and Kelly having the ability to control her POST Human implants?

Find out next week in the scary fifth episode of season two named “Museum of Death” that will likely deal with the lunar mission and the casualties that became reality in our universe!

La Brea Review and Analysis Father and Son Serious Situations!

    La Brea Broadcast Banner

Welcome Back La Brea and Wormhole Time Travel Science Fiction Drama Lovers,

    La Brea poster
Videos and images are courtesy of NBC Entertainment.

This superb science fiction drama is coming to the season one finale with what really is a two part episode that begins with the ninth episode “Father and Son”, and concludes with the tenth episode appropriately named “Topanga” where we learn that another wormhole time portal is about to close that if not acted upon in a timely manner, the future may be changed, and with it, all history could be altered forever!

This two part drama is where we learn all the answers to many questions that have made La Brea such a wonderful series to watch, as well as tweet along with fans for fabulous fun each week during the first season!

The critical pivot character is the appearance of the Doctor Rebecca Aldridge (Ming-Zhu Hii), who, in a chat with Eve (Natalie Zea) in the last episode, brought the young Isiah (Diesel La Torraca) and Gavin (Eoin Macken) characters to the center of the story arc when it was revealed that young Isiah in prehistoric La Brea is Gavin in the future.

The story arc is greatly reinforced when we learn in “Father and Son” who the twelve year old young lady is that came through the wormhole time portal with Isiah on the mysterious date of November 16, 1988.

This revelation in the “Father and Son” episode is coupled with several other “Easter Eggs” that set up the season one finale next week in the tenth episode “Topanga” airing on the NBC Network on November 30, 2021.

The City On The Edge Of Forever
The City On The Edge Of Forever image courtesy Star Trek

Science fiction time travel movie and television series admirers enjoy this type of drama that, long ago in Star Trek The Original Series episode “The City On The Edge of Forever” (1967), written by Harlan Ellison, a legend in the science fiction community, laid a fabulous foundation for La Brea.

In “The City On The Edge of Forever”, Ellison depicted time as a circular series of events, much like a river with “eddies, currents and backwash” as Spock (Leonard Nimoy) stated, where the future can be changed if certain events do, or do not take place. Viewers of this number one top rated episode recall that Doctor McCoy (DeForest Kelley) went to the 1930’s and changed all history by saving Edith Keeler (Joan Collins) from dying in a traffic accident. At the end of the episode, “The Guardian of Forever” stated “Time has resumed it’s normal shape, many such journey’s are possible” whereby Captain Kirk (William Shatner) said “Let’s get the hell out of here!” after he had allowed his love in the past, Edith Keeler, to be killed as she was meant to be.

This theme regarding circular time anomalies was further embodied in the classic movie “The Final Countdown” (1980) where the events of Pearl Harbor in 1941 were almost changed when a modern day nuclear powered United States Aircraft Carrier was transported to December 7, 1941 just before the infamous “A Date That Will Live In Infamy” attack on the United States Fleet berthed in Hawaii.

Admirers of the movie will recall that the Commander Owens character portrayed by James Farentino was trapped in the past, where he worked until 1980 to ensure that the future remained consistent by making certain that the Warren Lasky character portrayed by Martin Sheen, actually got aboard the USS Nimitz in 1980 in order to complete the time loop and ensure that the future timeline from December 1941 onward was protected.

    Biffs Pleasure Paradise and Museum

Perhaps the epic epitome of all circular time travel adventures is delineated with the three part “Back To The Future” series, in specific, part two (1989), when Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) came back to 1985 from 2015 after Marty had purchased the Grey’s Sports Almanac in the future in order to place a few winning bets in 1985.

To their shock they found that the book had fallen into the hands of the 2015 version of Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson) who went back to 1955 to give the book to his younger self. Old Biff changed all history when young Biff made a fortune on making bets documented in the almanac that resulted in the “Biff Tannen Museum and Pleasure Paradise Casino” in 1985, with his mother Lorraine (Lea Thompson), now an alcoholic, married to evil future Biff!

Only by going back to the past in 1955, and taking the book back from young Biff, was the shape of timeline in 1985 able to be returned to what it was supposed to be.

Much like Rebecca in La Brea, only by going back to the past in 10,000 BC could she make certain that events unfolded as they are meant to be, guaranteeing that timeline hopefully resumes its original shape. This type of terrific time travel adventure is what drove strong ratings for this science fiction drama series on NBC, always a tough network to survive on, ultimately ensuring the renewal for a second season of La Brea as Team WHR had projected several weeks ago.

    Father and Son:

La Brea S1x09 Eve learns about Isiah and Gavin

This episode was written by Arika Lisanne Mitman and directed by Thor Freudenthal, both of whom do a fabulous job with this episode!

“Father and Son” opens where we left off with Eve tending to Rebecca who was stabbed by Silas the Pelt Man (Mark Lee) when he kidnapped Isiah. La Brea lovers clearly recall that Silas and Rebecca know each other, proving our theory that Rebecca has visited prehistoric La Brea, likely more than once in the past, to transport Isiah to November 16, 1988 where he grew up to become the adult Gavin.

Eve asks Rebecca “What do you mean Isiah needs my help?” , “Everything depends on it, you have to get him to Topanga (Canyon)” replies Rebecca.

La Brea S1x09 Gavin Izzy and Sophia

At this point it is now clear that Rebecca had indeed intended to bring Isiah to the future to ensure that no time paradox is created, because if Gavin does not exist in the future, the entire interwoven Harris family of characters would never have become a central part of the La Brea story arc.

No Gavin to marry Eve, so no Josh (Jack Martin) or Izzy (Zyra Gorecki), since neither would ever have been born!

More critical, Gavin would never have seen the memory images of prehistoric La Brea, never have met Rebecca or Sophia (Virginie Laverdure).

All of whom investigated the wormhole time portals with Rebecca that have been opening doorways from the present to the past and visa-versa as we learn in “Father and Son”.

La Brea S1x09 Riley and Sam help Rebecca
Riley and Sam help Rebecca. Image courtesy NBC

This is not to say the portals would not have happened that caused sinkholes in Los Angeles, the Mojave Desert, and other places. It simply means that the central characters surrounding Gavin would likely never have met or even existed since all off future history would be impacted by time paradox manifestations.

Rebecca begins convulsions with blood spurting from her mouth. Levi rushes to get medical help from the survivors camp. Eve runs to get help from Riley (Veronica St. Claire) and her father doctor Sam (John Seda) as soon as they arrive at The Fort after sending Levi back in the Jeep.

Levi (Nicholas Gonzalez), who is with Paara (Tonatzin Carmelo) and Ty (Chiké Okonkwo), asks Eve what Rebecca said. “We need to find Isiah” says Eve with a look of panic on her face.

La Brea S1x09 Ella does not believe Gavin
Ella does not believe Gavin. Image courtesy NBC

This brings us back to Topanga Canyon in the future where Gavin, Izzy and Sophia are still examining the mini wormhole time portal sinkhole in Ella’s (Michelle Vergara Moore) backyard. Izzy says “I don’t understand how you can be from that world (prehistoric La Brea)”.

Gavin explains that he must have come through another wormhole time portal with Ella who he was separated from in 1988 when both could not be adopted by the same family. Since both came through the wormhole time portal together, Ella must be from the past also. Could it be that Ella is the older version of Lily (Chloe De Los Santos) who would be the same twelve year age in prehistoric La Brea as Isiah because Ella looks an awful lot like an older Lily? The icing on the cake is when Lily is playing tic-tac-toe with dark and light colored rocks with Marybeth (Karina Logue). We will learn more about this shortly. Ella, who had been running away from Gavin, shows up at her home and decides to confront the trio, threatening to call the police. Gavin explains who they are and that she (Ella) may be the key to saving his family trapped in prehistoric La Brea. However, Ella does not yet believe she came through the wormhole time portal.

La Brea S1x09 Scott marijuana and the cow
Scott, marijuana and the cow. Image courtesy NBC

After the introduction credits we are with Scott (Rohan Mirchandaney) who is dream like state smoking some marijuana, when a mooing cow suddenly shows up. Scott runs to the survivors camp to share his discovery with Josh, Riley, Lily, Veronica (Lily Santiago), Marybeth,  Lucas (Josh McKenzie), and the whining crybaby Billy (Stephen  Lopez) who is complaining about having to eat more wild mushrooms. Of note, the character of ever whining Billy is a masterpiece of acting by Lopez. Riley and the others think Scott is possibly experiencing marijuana hallucinations.

Subsequent to helping Rebecca, Ty, and Paara have just been told by Eve that Isiah will grow up in to become her husband Gavin. Ty is in disbelief. However, Paara shares that Silas and Isiah showed up only three years ago, approximately the same time as the disastrous Mojave Expedition. Silas told Paara at that time Isiah’s parents had been killed in the crash, and that The Fort people had no reason to not believe Silas at that time. Now Paara shares “It seems there is more to him (Silas) than we knew”. This brings the story arc full circle. Silas, who speaks perfect English, must have been a member of the Mojave Expedition, which is how he knows Rebecca. The questions then become; is Isiah really Silas’ adopted son, someone Silas found and adopted in prehistoric La Brea? And why is Silas trying to stop Isiah from going back to the future? Does Silas believe that if he stops Isiah from becoming Gavin, that his own participation in the Mojave Expedition mission three years earlier would never have occurred? Or is there more to it than anyone else knows he about Rebecca and Silas? We shall see,

La Brea S1x09 Josh listens to his Mom
Natalie Zea as Eve, Jack Martin as Josh. Image by Sarah Enticknap, courtesy NBC

Josh thinks his Mom is talking crazy stuff. Eve explains that Isiah has Gavin’s eyes, that Isiah is about the same age as when Gavin was found in 1988, and that Gavin had visions of prehistoric La Brea.

Note: Only the viewers know that Gavin had no clear memories from his childhood until recently.

All go inside to get more answers from Rebecca who shares the entire story of another wormhole time portal on the highest mountain near Topanga Canyon that is now open, but will close tomorrow. Rebecca confirms that if Isiah doesn’t go back to the future in 1988, Izzy and Josh will never exist.

Worse, the longer they take to get Isiah there, both Izzy and Josh will become deathly ill and die because they will never have existed! Josh becomes a believer after hearing the truth from Rebecca that may result in his death. A search party is formed to find Isiah and Silas before the wormhole time portal to 1988 closes, sealing all their fates.

La Brea S1x09 Gavin tries to explain to Ella without success

In the present at Ella’s home, Gavin, Izzy and Sophia are desperately trying to explain everything to a still disbelieving Ella. When Gavin shares about his visions, he asks Ella if she has experienced them as well?

Ella reluctantly admits that she has had her own visions that began about the time when the Los Angeles La Brea wormhole time portal sinkhole opened. This clearly ties Ella to the how and when for an image came into her mind of her recent sculpture of the hand that viewers have seen in several places in prehistoric La Brea.

However, Ella  says she has a new life now and simply wants to be left alone. Gavin, Izzy and Sophia leave Ella’s home for the time being.

La Brea S1x09 Sam and Riley stay behind for Rebecca
Jon Seda as Sam, Veroncia St. Clair as Riley. Image by Sarah Enticknap, courtesy NBC

At The Fort, Sam and Riley decide to stay behind to ensure that Rebecca survives the wounds she suffered from Silas.

In a tender moment between two young prehistoric lovers, Riley tells Josh “You’re not going to die, not when you’re finally starting to grow on me”.

The search party splits up into groups with Ty and Paara on foot and Levi, Eve and Josh in the Jeep to find Isiah and Silas who are now hiding out in a cave.

Isiah questions Silas about why Rebecca told him his name is Gavin? Silas says that Isiah is the only family he has and that Rebecca is not telling the truth. Isiah obviously thinks otherwise because when Silas goes to forage for some blueberries to feed himself and Isiah, it offers Isiah a chance to escape.

La Brea S1x09 Lily and Veronica have a chat
Chloe De Los Santos as Lilly, Lily Santiago as Veronica. Image by Sarah Enticknap, courtesy NBC

In another part of the La Brea drama, Lily and Veronica have a chance to chat together alone, but under the watchful eyes of Marybeth. Veronica says they must leave the survivors camp because everyone knows what she did.

Lily tells Veronica that she will not leave because the others understand that they were both kidnapped and have forgiven Veronica.

Scott the stoner tries to convince everyone that he did see a cow, but no one believes him, thinking that Scott was having marijuana hallucinations.

Veronica gets a sparkle in her eyes thinking this may be a chance for her to gain favor with the survivor’s in the prehistoric La Brea camp.

La Brea S1x09 Scott and Veronica find the cow
Rohan Mirchandaney as Scott, Lily Santiago as Veronica. Image by Sarah Enticknap, courtesy NBC

Veronica follows Scott helping him find the cow which has a barcode embedded on it’s neck.

This means that the cow came from the future since they never existed in that are in 10,000 BC.

The source of the cow is from yet another wormhole time portal, most likely from the Topanga area which is not too far away from the survivor’s camp.

We are finally pleased that Veronica was being sincere with Scott and has changed her ways after talking with Lily. It appears that Veronica and Scott may become another romantic couple in La Brea after both agree they have been judged too quickly by people in the survivor’s camp.

Later Veronica opens up to Scott, and as the two strike up a friendship, they find the cow, bringing it back to the survivor’s camp.

Yay! Looks like fresh milk and cheese will soon be on the menu soon in prehistoric La Brea for the survivors!

La Brea S1x09 Father and Son
Jack Martin as Josh Harris, Diesel La Torraca as Isiah. Image by Sarah Enticknap, courtesy NBC

In the meantime, Levi and Eve decide to follow tracks left by Silas into rough mountainous terrain while Josh takes the Jeep to search the flat lands.

Josh finds Isiah, but a dangerous Saber-Toothed Tiger is prowling nearby that is stalking Isiah for a quick and easy lunch. Josh rams the giant cat, saving Isiah, but wrecks the Jeep in the process.

This set of scenes is where the episode name “Father and Son” comes from when we observe Josh and Isiah walking and talking together after Josh rescues Isiah.

Levi and Eve rush to the scene when both Eve and Josh recognize that the scar on Isiah’s hand is exactly like Gavin’s. Both become absolute believers in Rebecca’s knowledge that Gavin is Isiah! The four set off on foot unaware that Silas has been observing them.

La Brea S1x09 Paara kisses Ty
Paara kisses Ty. Image courtesy NBC

Paara and Ty find the tracks of Levi, Eve, Josh and Isiah, and start following them.

Ty suffers a nose bleed and subsequently confesses to Paara that he is seriously ill. Paara, who has been attracted to Ty for some time, expresses genuine sympathy for him.

In a tender moment for these two, Paara kisses Ty cementing their own romance in prehistoric La Brea.

    Our theory?

No matter what happens, Ty will choose to stay with Paara to live in the past in prehistoric La Brea, since he has no one that loves him in his old future life in the future.

La Brea S1x09 Eve opens up to Isiah about his having to leave
Natalie Zea as Eve, Diesel La Torraca as Isiah. Image by Sarah Enticknap, courtesy NBC

On their way to the mountain top wormhole time portal located in Topanga Canyon, Eve opens up to Isiah, telling him the truth about his having to leave his home in prehistoric La Brea to go to another “light in the sky” that has opened up and that it is nearby.

Eve, without revealing that he will ultimately become her husband in the future, informs Isiah that he will be living in a different time, in the future, where everything will be okay for him.

Isiah balks about this at this at first, but soon changes his mind when Silas is observed in the distance.

Silas has formed a hunting party of his own with a few people from The Fort that have clearly rejected Paara’s leadership and have instead remained loyal to Silas.

La Brea S1x09 Ella believes after seeing the ancient artifact
Ella believes Gavin after seeing the ancient artifact. Image courtesy NBC

In the present, Gavin, Izzy and Sophia leave Ella’s home and come up with a plan to convince Ella to help them. They head to the archeological dig site to try and find artifacts that might match Ella’s artwork or sculptures. Sophia gets them in to the artifact tent where Gavin finds a match.

Sophia warns Gavin via cellphone that security guards are coming. Gavin texts back to Sophia to kill the electric power, grabs the correct artifact and they high tail it out if there. Gavin, Izzy and Sophia then go back to Ella’s home with the artifact where Gavin has another vision of Eve learning that Izzy and Josh will die if she is unsuccessful in getting Isiah to the wormhole time portal in Topanga Canyon.

As Ella looks at the rock that has a fossil of a prehistoric mosquito on it that matches her own artwork, she has a vision of when she was playing tic-tac-toe, recalling Marybeth saying that her name was Lily! The time paradox is that young Lily went to prehistoric La Brea from 2021, only to return with Isiah to 1988 in the circular time loop that is self fulfilling.

La Brea S1x09 Riley and Sam bring Rebecca to the survivors camp
Riley and Sam bring Rebecca to the survivors camp. Image courtesy NBC

Riley agrees with Sam to let Rebecca out of her sick bed when they discover that Rebecca claims she can find another artifact, a notebook that Silas had hidden.

The notebook is from the future that will help save not only Josh and Izzy, but perhaps everyone who has been trapped in 10,000 BC.

The three head off to share their discovery. Sam and Riley bring Rebecca to the survivor’s camp with a page from the notebook that Silas had stashed.

Once there they share a revealing father and daughter moment while Sam copes with his PTSD anxiety. In a moment of crystal clear thought, Sam shares that if there is a wormhole time portal to 1988, there must be another way to get them back to his son, Riley’s brother Andrew (Ethan Ritchie), and her mother in the present.

La Brea S1x09 Isiah at the rope bridge
Diesel La Torraca as Isiah on his way to become Gavin. Image by Sarah Enticknap, courtesy NBC

Levi, Eve, Josh and Isiah are observed on their way to Topanga Canyon.

Isiah knows of a rope bridge across the canyon. Eve and Isiah get across, but Silas is right behind the. Levi cuts the bridge to allow Eve and Isiah to escape.

Unfortunately, Levi and Josh are captured by Silas who threatens to kill then if Eve doesn’t surrender Isiah at a crossroads four miles from the now useless bridge.

Eve further opens up to Isiah regarding why he must go to a different time; that her children, Josh and Izzy will become sick and die if she is not successful in getting him to the Topanga “light in the mountain”.

Isiah understands just as Ty and Paara link up with them to continue their journey to the open wormhole time portal at the peak near Topanga Canyon.

La Brea S1x09 Levi and Josh come to an understanding
Nicholas Gonzalez as Levi, Jack Martin as Josh. Image by Sarah Enticknap, courtesy NBC

    The episode comes to an exciting conclusion with series of interlocking sequences;

Levi and Josh come to an understanding about Levi’s affair with Eve. Both agree they can discuss details later after they escape from Silas and his gang.

Sam, Riley and Rebecca are at the survivors camp where Rebecca explains that time is not always linear, but is circular in some instances in nature.

Rebecca offers them a path back to the future, but only through 1988, thirty-three years from where they all came from. The survivors must each decide to stay or go, while Rebecca gives Lily a note from Silas’ artifact notebook.

Lily convinces Veronica to take her to the wormhole time portal at Topanga Canyon. Veronica tells Scott she can start a new life there free of her guilt.

La Brea S1x09 Ella remembers the time portal map Rebecca gave her
Ella remembers the time portal map Rebecca gave her when she was Lily. Image courtesy NBC

In the future Ella then remembers something she had forgotten long ago, the note Rebecca gave her in prehistoric La Brea.

The note is actually a map of wormhole time portals that are scheduled to open and close, listed by date.

In addition to the Topanga Canyon portal, they all discover that a new one is scheduled to open in Seattle Washington the very next day!

The last scene is with Isiah and Eve who are waiting for Ty and Paara near the top of Topanga Canyon near the wormhole time portal. “Whatever happens to me, you get yourself up that mountain okay!”

Eve then takes off to find Silas who is still holding Josh and Levi captive.

And that’s it La Brea lovers. We must wait until next week to find out the answers to the following questions!

Will Silas cooperate with Eve, and just who the heck is Silas in any event?

Does Veronica go back to 1988 herself to start a new life, and who is she in the future?

Will Gavin and Izzy or Levi and Eve use a portal in Seattle Washington to go where it leads?

Will Lily get to the future with Isiah so as to become Ella and Gavin to be able to save Josh and Izzy?

What happens if Lily and Isiah do not make it to the wormhole time portal in time to go back to to 1988?

See you week for the exciting season one finale of La Brea when we will all find out the answers to everything!. In the meantime, below is a fun video courtesy of NBC about how Jack Martin (Josh) would survive in 10,000 BC. Enjoy!

    Welcome back convention fans!

SCCC 2016 Broken Promises Logo - Click to visit the officially abandoned web site!We had a late start to our trip to Space City Comic Con (SCCC).

You know Texas… and Spring Rain!

Apparently they are a couple now!

After MANY navigation reroutes we arrived safely in Houston at the great NRG Center with less than two hours left to enjoy our first day of SCCC.

NRGYou would think there would have been a low turnout rate, what with the ark building level down pouring of rain. But the fans were packing in despite the weather.

This was not our first Comic Con. But I can assure you the nervous feels haven’t gone away for me yet and I’m not sure they ever will. As much as you are there for press, you are also a fan.

My goal is to always be a professional as well as fully enjoying the comic con and meeting the guests and fans.

I feel if you do not do this, you are not able to write from a true perspective. Ha ha, I feel I should also warn that I write like a speak. Things just fly out, so apologies in advance!

Click to visit and follow WormholeRiders News Agency on Twitter! That said; we would like to state before diving in to the details, that WormholeRiders News Agency is not, and has never been affiliated with Space City Comic Con. We are independent media and always strive to be fair and honest in all reporting. So we will only be stating facts from our perspective and our experience.

There will be links posted below this article to any statements made by SCCC‘s guests and fans. We will include The Good, The Bad, The Anger, and The Major Love! Because let’s face it, no matter what transpired, the special guests were nothing short of UNBELIEVABLE love!!

The Good and The Major Love:

SCCCWith so many amazing guests, vendors and cosplayers, where do you start? I knew without a doubt that the Nexus short world premier staring Gigi Edgley and Alison Balnar was a ‘to do’. As was the premier for Star Trek Continues: Come Not Between the Dragons. And, of course, the Sons of Anarchy crew and panel was also on the must see list.

Trying to map out your plan seems to be a helpful tool. Friday being a late start, we sort of winged it. And Friday’s tend to be the calmest days, or so we thought. That wasn’t the case this year. With guests from SOA, Doctor Who, many levels of Star Trek, Game of Thrones, Bitten, True Blood, X-Men, Assassin’s Creed, Z Nation, Smallville, and Hellboy, there was no way Mother Nature was slowing down the fans.

Sons of AnarchyFirst stop was a visit to a few Sons of Anarchy guests. I can’t tell you how great it was to have the opportunity to meet such a HUGE, amazing cast!

And guess what!? I met the majority, and not ONCE did I get my a** kicked!! Thankful for that, but was hoping for at least a scuffle.. Joking!

Timothy V. MurphyOur first hello was Timothy V. Murphy. Do his eyes always smile? Yes. Yes they do. He’s a surprisingly quiet gent.

I love Murphy’s work. He’s starred in SOA, The Bastard Executioner, Hell on Wheels, but one of my all-time favorites is still the auto commercial he did.

So funny, so serious, and it’s all about the sharp stick!

I am also a huge fan of his twitter feed. He has the most adorable little sidekick!

Kenny JohnsonThe next guest left me a little speechless. This doesn’t happen often, and came courtesy of Kenny Johnson. First you should be warned that his smile is major infectious. I love it!

Of the guests I’ve met in the past, I’ve never met one this open, honest, and beautiful inside and out. He’s got some interesting stories. I’d love to go into more detail, but I’ve NO idea where I’d start. Some of my favorite work of Kenny’s comes from Saving Grace and Sons of Anarchy. If he would’ve fit in my jacket pocket, I’d have taken him home. Note to self: Bring bigger pockets next time. He was a dream! If you ever get the opportunity to meet him, do it. You’ll fall in love. (Sorry mi esposa!)

Charlie HunnamWith the late start, we only managed to see a few guests and speak to a couple of artists. There was no luck on the meeting of Charlie Hunnam (Jax Teller-SOA).

His line was unlike any we ourselves have seen at SCCC. We were later told that he’d stayed past closing time for the day to sign autographs and meet his fans.

We were even more surprised to later learn that he had done this while sporting a back injury. Major Fan love!

Sunset on SCCC Day 1Day one down, it was short but sweet and ended with one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever witnessed. Shireen, our photographer, pointed out a rainbow on the way out.

While she caught photos of the rainbow and storm clouds to our left, I glanced to the right. This was our view from both sides. It was amazing! You’d never know that inside SCCC it had its own storm brewing.

Flanagan and HurstOn day two we had to meet Tommy Flanagan. There was a ‘hello’ to pass on to him from someone who just may be his biggest fan, Sarah. He was a favorite on Sons of Anarchy and he was a ball of spinning energy. Flanagan was great with fans and let me tell ya, his selfies will leave you dizzy!

From there we met Ryan Hurst. He was not at all what was expected! We only saw him sitting. So when you approach Hurst and he stands up you may feel a ‘lil intimidated and I may have said as much. At 5’9” in sneakers, I’m not sure I’ve ever felt so tiny. But he was all smiles. Our photographer preferred for him to remain seated. After meeting these two we had some time to spare before the 12:00p.m. start of the SOA panel so we decided to see some of the cosplayers and visit a few of the vendor’s booths.

SCCC CosplayersThere were so many great costumes this year at SCCC and some familiar faces! I know it sounds cheesy, but it was like running into family. Seeing the creativity people put into their cosplay never gets old. We saw more of a variety of costumes.

This year brought Minions, Winter Soldier, a LOT of Deadpool, Star Wars, Captain Jack Sparrow, and a first for me to see, Blade. This guy was awesome!

PS: Captain Jack Sparrow is still my favorite! Dirtee Jack wins at Johnny Depp cosplay!

Photo by Shireen VanderWe visited some artist booths and vendors along the way. A favorite was Michael Ornstein who also played Chucky on Sons of Anarchy. Prior to this photo, this was a regular printed banner. It underwent a major transformation!

I tried to talk him out of it when I got home via his monkeylanguage.com site. He’s crazy talented. Happily, I was able to order a print of this banner. Go check out his art on his site listed above!

Tonja Tolleson on TwitterOne thing we noticed while visiting the vendors was that the layout was a little difficult to navigate. But it did manage to lead us to an area where we were not aware that any of the guests were set up. (They were a little out of the way from the other guests.)

So by happy accident, we found the Doctor Who crew, Shawn Ashmore, Laura Vandervoort, and Alan Ritchson.

It was pretty cool to meet fellow twin Ashmore, especially since we both have evil twins. OMG, and have you seen the graphics from the video game, Quantum Break?

I forgot to ask Shawn what it was like to see his finished character! And meeting Vandervoort was great. The whole family loves her. She’s adorable and her characters are fierce!

Girl PowerThe only disappointment was that we didn’t find any light sabers on our walks. My disappointment didn’t last long. Remember last year at SCCC how it was mentioned about missing the best smile at the comic con?

Friday night there were two HUGE misses and a sad Team WHR member missed both the best smile, and a favorite blond. (There is picture proof of said despair.)

But come Saturday the meeting of Michele Specht finally happened! She is SO much more sparkly than I could’ve hoped for! I don’t mean in a glitter way guys! She was amazing!

It is easy to see why she and Gigi Edgley connect so well! Both are gorgeous, funny as he||, and give out so much positive energy! Michele’s smile IS one of the best by the way. I also had the chance to see Gigi again. There are pics that prove you NEVER turn down a fan girl pic with Gigi. Not even if you look like a crazy laughing loon, which I did. But so worth it! Added bonus was meeting Chris Doohan. He did a mini cajón solo at Gigi‘s table and he’s got some skills!

Rene AuberjonoisIn the Star Trek zone, there was one other I HAD to stop in and meet, René Auberjonois. I’m old enough to remember watching him on Benson. (Don’t do the age math, it doesn’t lead anywhere good.) I loved him then and that love carried over to his character Odo on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Yes, he is just as kind as he looks and does great things for charity. At SCCC he was supporting Doctors Without Borders. To see more on René or to learn more about his charity work, go give him a visit at renefiles.com!

Sons of AnarchyAfter meeting Auberjonois, we made it in time to take in the Sons of Anarchy panel. The panel was supposed to start at noon. However, it did not start until after 12:30.

While we waited for the panel to start we started getting some chatter among the VIP pass holders that something was going on behind the scenes at Space City Comic Con. Also adding to the chatter were some curious tweets. (We’ll elaborate more on this experience in closing.)

When the panel started, it initially looked as if Ron Perlman would be the only guest to appear. Perlman had a little fun with it and announced ‘Welcome to Son of Anarchy.’ With BlueSun Interpreting on hand, we learned how to sign some words. NoSons of Anarchy Panelt sure we can post those on WormholeRiders. But I’ve expanded my sign language vocabulary so that’s a bonus! Perlman was joined shortly after by Murphy, Johnson, and Reed.

We’ve taken in a lot of panels, but none as deep and meaningful as this SOA one. Almost willing to bet the guests; Christopher Reed, Timothy V. Murphy, Ron Perlman, Kenny Johnson, and the fans who attended this panel will agree. Seems SOA helped some people through tough, dark times.

Amazing how film, television, music, and art can heal. It was beautiful to hear the fans open up and to see the guest panel respond and receive them in the manner they did. There were many tears and lots of laughter. When Ron Perlman received a Navy Seal Challenge Coin from a mother, Cindy Dietz, not sure there was a dry eye in the room.

Sons of Anarchy Black and WhiteDuring the SOA panel we learned some things (aside from this being the first time Christopher Reed ever had his own microphone). Reed never ended up in the ER riding motorcycles. Great news there! This led to talks about Perlman. Kenny Johnson told us about how when Perlman would get about twenty feet past the camera on his bike, they would grab and stop him.

On what was the hardest death to see: Perlman claimed his own character, Clay. When asked what episode was their favorite: Timothy V. Murphy grinned and said ‘Beating up Jax, shooting their bikes, and blowing up their club house.’ He seemed to enjoy answering that one. This was definitely a panel we’re glad we didn’t miss. There was an obvious amount of love and respect between these guys.

Kim CoatesAfter the panel, we headed back downstairs to meet more guests and see more cosplayers. Kim Coates had arrived so we stopped in on his signing table.

We were still not completely sure what was happening behind the SCCC scenes, but whatever it was, Coates was a gem!

He was cheerful and nothing short of kind and funny. He gives the most excellent selfie! A hello was passed on to him from a fan and he was so sincere in his response. Guys, he’s not at all scary and creepy like the characters he’s played. We hope to see him come to Houston again someday. We hope to see them ALL again!

Coones and RentonThen there was the meeting Rusty Coones. He’s a hulk of a fella and such a great guy! He joked about one of his photos on his signing table. We can’t repeat but it caught me off guard and he just laughed and told me he was kidding.

Again, he was another SOA guest along with the gorgeous Kristen Renton and all the others who were beyond great to the fans despite what they were facing with some of the comic con issues!

Ron PerlmanGetting to meet Ron Perlman was an even bigger treat. Geez, what fan wouldn’t be nervous meeting him? Love him in all things he’s done, even when he’s misbehaving. Just to name a few of the favorites: Sons of Anarchy, Hellboy, Beauty and the Beast, and Perlman’s current work on S2 of ‘Hand of God‘.

He’s got a spark of Clay, Hellboy, and so many others characters he’s played in him. Not sure if he chooses the roles, or the roles choose him. He’s brilliant in every d*** one of them. We can honestly say that when we finally met him, he was all love. I wanna squeeze him!

That’s normal right? Even when it appeared things were not as they seemed behind the scenes at SCCC and some storms had developed, da** this man was love! He was there for the fans, and he stayed for the fans and left no room for doubt about it.

Doug JonesFYI, you don’t go see Hellboy and NOT go see Abe Sapien aka Doug Jones. You don’t. Most know my love for Jones and how fascinated I am by his work. And unless you’re a true fan, you may not recognize him by name alone.

But it is guaranteed you’ve seen his face many time but in various forms: Silver Surfer, Cochise on Falling Skies, and Candyman in The Candy Shop. I can’t tell you how exciting it was to meet him. To talk to him about his work, to share his work with people and have them go ‘Wow! I know this character!’

There has been a lot of buzz about Mr. Jones playing the role of Nosferatu. He gave us some details about how they’re using the original film background but removing the original cast. This is one I must see! We also took in his panel and got an interesting tidbit on how the fairies tasted in Pan’s Labyrinth. I’m not sure I can share this. I’ll have to get back with you guys on this one.

Star Trek ContinuesAfter we sat in on Doug Jones’ panel, we made it to the Star Trek Continues premier of Come Not Between the Dragons. From what we understand, this show is non-profit. It’s a show made for fans by what I’d call mega fans.

I also did not expect it to be so meaningful. And that it was. It touched on the subject of child abuse.

In the initial meeting of the creature encountered on the Enterprise, Udsi, it wasn’t known that he was a child who had run from his abusive father. The father’s rage battered the Enterprise, which in turn affected the crew making them angry and aggressive.

Gigi Edgley gave a beautiful performance as the voice of love and reason to calm Udsi and give his father some healthy advice. Another thing I took from this, other than ‘Michele Specht throws one he** of a mean punch!’ is that anger fed anger. What you do affects others around you; hate, love, joy.

To the STC crew, you did an amazing job. Between the filming style, characters, set, and the acting, the reviews I’ve read held true in that you guys stayed in line with Star Trek’s original series. And if all of the Star Trek Continues episodes are this level, I’m in and going back to watch them all.. Just try not to make me too weepy! So much love for what you do. You all have such an undeniable kinship! And the blooper reel? I laughed so hard I cried, except for that one scene. You know the one? Where Vic Mignogna‘s noggin meets the wall? I cringed. I cringed a lot. If you’re a Star Trek fan you should check out some of their episodes on Star Trek Continues site!

NAACGSaturday evening after unsuccessfully hunting down another Star Trek: The Next Generation guest Carlos Ferro for most of the day and Friday evening, we finally caught up with each other. Carlos also has a lot of success as a voice actor in games like Assassin’s Creed (Leonardo da Vinci), Gears of War (Dominic Santiago), and The Godfather II (Michael Corleone). We met via the North American Assassin’s Creed Guild. (That’s Peter Dante there crashing the shoot. He was pretty amazing too.) They’re a great group of fans and I love seeing them all in costume! I can’t tell you how fun it was to get to know Ferro. All I can say is that I don’t think I have laughed that hard in a very long time. He’s hilarious!

Nexus PremiereThe following day we had the pleasure of taking in a second world premiere. This time it was Carlos Aldana’s NEXUS sci-fi short with Gigi Edgley and Alison Balnar. This was a successful Indiegogo crowdfunded campaign. They had me at ‘In a post-apocalyptic world where humans are on the verge of extinction, a desperate physicist tries to find refuge for her family in a parallel universe… ours.’ Gigi plays a physicist who discovers technology that can open a gateway between alternate universes, the Nexus.

The story swap between parallel universes was much easier to follow than anything I’ve seen. There was no confusion like you sometimes encounter in alternate timeline films. Aldana did a great job separating the universes and Gigi did such an amazing job in portraying her character Lucy’s parallels as individuals: one as a mother who lost her child (I got choked up on this one), the other trying to keep her child safe.

The bond between mother and child was beautifully played between Edgley and Balnar. You got the impression that they’d spent a lot of time together prior to shooting, but when asked, that wasn’t the case. Aldana did a spectacular job on the CGI! Also noted was the sheer pride that shined through on Gigi‘s face. This is one we would love to see in a full feature film!

Michael WelchTeam WormholeRiders, guess who else we met at Space City Comic Con? We are excited to say that we met Michael Welch and he’s adorable!

I’m such a huge fan of the Stargate Series and it happens that Welch was on one of my favorite Stargate SG-1 episodes. He played a young Jack O’Neill.

I asked if he had met or worked with Richard Dean Anderson prior to taking on this role. Surprisingly he had not. He’d only gone up shortly before filming the episode and was given episodes to watch. In that short span, he completely nailed Jack O’Neill and his infinite sarcasm! I believe he told us he was about fourteen years old when he did that episode. I have a sixteen year old.. He doesn’t have that kind of focus so I was very impressed! Also, knowing he worked on Z Nation (I’ve only watched partially into Season 1) I asked if he was still working on any episodes. I can’t give you his reply because spoilers and all. Let’s just say I’ll still go back and finish watching anyway.

Adrian PaulAnother favorite series guest was Adrian Paul of Highlander. ‘There can be only one’ is still top ranked television/movie quote for me. He was hosting his event The Sword Experience at SCCC. Guests I spoke to afterwards said it was great experience learning the choreography and then performing what they’d learned. If it comes around again, I think I’ll sign up!

There was an added bonus to meeting Adrian Paul. My evil twin, Sonja, is a HUGE Paul fan. I ain’t gonna lie, MY horns came out a little and I sent her a pic. She may have disowned me for a short time over it. Lol, she’s over it now since I smoothed it over with a signed Sword Experience tee. And there was less bloodshed than I told him there might be. I survived the evil twin’s wrath and all is right again.

SCCC VendorsWe did so much more but if we include every tiny detail we may bore you to tears if not already!

Overall, our experience was a good one at SCCC. The variety of vendors could’ve been a little more extensive.

They did have a great guest line-up and many great artists in Artist’s Alley. It was quite a walk to get to Wild Bills Soda for drinks. There’s a Starbucks at NRG Center so that was great! We wish we could say the same for all the fans.

    The Bad:

Come Saturday afternoon, we were getting quite a bit of negative feedback from VIP pass holders. From what we were told by some of the VIP ticket holders, the panel guests were greatly reduced from what was expected.

We were told there were problems with using ticket vouchers. This was confirmed with an announcement at the Sons of Anarchy panel. Ticket holders were told they could switch the vouchers out for cash to use at guest booths. VIP pass holders were also asked to stay behind after the panel was over.

We were told by many of these people later that the general admission ticket holders received better treatment than the VIP holders. Some of the fans also reported that they did not get their funds, nor did they get the experience they paid for.

There were some who came from Scotland, England, Mexico, and other places as well. These same guests also reported that they had saved and spent all funds for these VIP experiences and had no cash left to even pay the additional out of their pockets to meet the guests they had already paid to see via the VIP pass and ticket vouchers. WormholeRiders did speak to a VIP holder who reported that he received a partial refund, but that it was only one quarter of what he’d paid for his pass.

We also observed there was a lower amount of volunteers Saturday. We were told by one volunteer that we talked to that she had been working 18 hours straight! She told us that a lot of the volunteers didn’t show back up for day two.

Space City Comic Con TwitterThen things got a little deeper. We were told by a source who would like to remain anonymous that the guests had stayed after for two hours on Friday evening to get paid. And we were told that not all were paid or a least not paid in full.

We were told there were issues with the lodging when guests arrived, but Official Ava Jade clarified the issue stating in her article: ‘There was a mishap regarding the hotel check in. The credit card for the room was for the reservations and not for incidentals. Upon checking in, some cast members had to pay cash for the incidentals, instead of putting their own credit card up, and risking being charged upon checking out.’

There is also confirmation that law enforcement was called in as one of the guests tried to collect. We can confirm in an unrelated incident that on Saturday evening after Hunnam did not return to his table that someone had called in multiple law enforcement officials. Fans had been standing in line for hours waiting to meet Hunnam.

At seven that evening when he did not return to his table, law enforcement was put into place behind the crowd where we were standing and towards the front of the meet and greet area. The announcement was then made that Charlie Hunnam would not be returning due to a family emergency. We can’t speculate on why officers were called in, but the couple behind us voiced that it was to stop any uprising that might have risen from the abrupt announcement.

SCCC Twitter account deleted June 2016Below we have posted quotes and links to statements made by others. Articles and interviews will be included as well. These will include links from both sides of the table as it is only right and fair that we include all. We did get confirmation from one source that reports they were being taken care of. (As of closing date of this article, Space City Comic Con’s twitter account has been deleted. However, their webpage is still up.)

Statement by Johnny Steverson on Space City Comic Con:
Johnny Steverson Resigns From Space City Comic Con and Mythic Events LLC.’
Sighting: ‘Promotor George Comits Breaches Contracts’

Via Kim Coates Twitter: ‘Houston we have a problem. So so so sorry.. Coatesy’
‘Ok some things got settled .. No panel at 12. Sorry kids. A complete breakdown by upper management. Wow. But I’m staying here for the day. x’

The Harp Twins: ‘Read between the lines George Comits of Mythik Events & Promotions and Space City Comic Con for breaking their contract with us and knowingly writing us a bad check for our performance fee, travel expenses, and per diem.’

Official Ava Jade: ‘When Mr. Hunnam took his check to the bank to cash it, he found out that the check that was given to him was written from an account that had been CLOSED. This happened to the entire cast.’

TMZ interview ‘Sons of Anarchy’ stars: ‘Reunion Promoter Stiffed Us But We Stayed for Fans’

    Positive Conclusions:

One thing we can say for certain is that the guests were nothing short of phenomenal under difficult circumstances! Whatever they experienced did not change the way they treated their devoted fans. We have nothing but respect for those who were kind and generous enough to stay. And to those that greeted the fans with so much love and respect in return: We love ya!!

    Hello my fellow conventioneers!

Legion M logo - Click to visit and follow The Legion M on Twitter!I just got back from the first ever Silicon Valley Comic-Con, in San Jose, California. It was definitely fun, exciting and a smaller (but no less important) version of the massive San Diego Comic-con that happens every year in July.

There were panels, special guests (William Shatner, Jeremy Renner, Nathan Fillion to name a few) and of course, outstanding cosplay!

The difference is that SVCC does include science and science fiction and new projects that are waiting for such convention to launch their idea to the world.

SVCC 2016 The Legion M interview (l-r) Lori, Paul and JeffOne such great new project is called The Legion M, the first fan-owned (yes you read that correctly) entertainment company. Pretty amazing, huh? I think so?

It will give fans outside of Hollywood the chance to become involved in new projects be it film, TV or anything else entertainment related.

The two brains behind this great new project are not newbies by any means, Paul Scanlan and Jeff Annison are the masterminds of The Legion M.

SVCC 2016 The Legion M interview (l-r) Paul, Kenn and Jeff These two gentlemen (and I mean that), were involved with a “little” project that millions are familiar with. Known as MobiTV, Paul and Jeff were instrumental in bringing television to a mobile platform.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Paul and Jeff on preview night at Silicon Valley Comic-Con. The interview was fun and definitely informative about an exciting new entertainment project that is poised to revolutionize the manner in which fan loved series and movies will be produced in the future!

SVCC 2016 The Legion M interview robot As I sat in a director’s chair (which I am very used to), I was flanked by two life size robots. Both were on display and later would roam around the con, and no doubt have a ton of pictures taken.

As a director myself, I can vouch for how difficult it is to get projects even looked at in Hollywood. It is normally all about who you know, but with The Legion M, it is all up to you!

How it works fans will have actual shares in the company, a piece of the pie, if you will. When the company makes money, so do you, it is basically a win-win on all fronts.

With the privilege of ownership comes access to behind-the scenes details that can be accessed through app or online interface.

Potentiality of live streams from sets of the projects already in production and things of that nature to keep all those involved in the loop.

SVCC 2016 The Legion M robotsThe company also has a few alliances with an already established companies that knows the inner working of Hollywood. Once such company is Stoopid Buddy Studios (Seth Green, John Harvatine IV, Matthew Senreich, and Eric Towner) the company that brought you Robot Chicken.

With that kind of talent and knowledge behind the company there is no telling what kind of amazing things will happen!

The ideas that SBS has (and there are many) can be presented to the investor pool (aka the legion) for feedback. It would be up to the legion to help find the “next big thing” the next big talent to come down the pike.

Wouldn’t you like to be a part of history? To be able to say to someone, I had a hand in bring this new type of entertainment financing and development to fruition for the fandoms?

I will bet you answer is YES!

SVCC 2016 The Legion M custom cruiser on displayThe one major factor that is crucial are three main items of criteria when it comes to potential projects the legion will look at.

The first one and most important is will it be fun for the legion to be a part of.

SVCC 2016 The Legion M custom cruiserThe second is basically that is will be worth the money that will be invested in it, that way we all win and lastly is it beneficial to the world. All great questions to ponder.

One of the many things, I enjoyed about interviewing Paul and Jeff is how incredibly enthusiastic they were about this company. They are very much part of what makes companies like this great, they are all about giving a voice to the masses. It lets the fan base feel empowered, and that is always a good thing.

I want to thank Jeff and Paul for the great interview. Team WHR is looking forward to amazing things to come!

Hey Gulf Coast, can you guess what’s coming up in Houston, Texas?!

Space City Comic Con (SCCC) is happening Friday through Sunday, July 24-26, 2015 at NRG Center! From VIP experiences, cosplayer contests, gaming, panels, actors, voice actors, comic creators/artists, and vendors there will be lots of family entertainment, SCCC has a great many entertainers lined for you.

This will be the place to be for the latest in all things pop-culture! William Shatner PortraitSpace City Comic Con is bringing none other than Star Trek’s Captain James T. Kirk, William Shatner! I grew up watching reruns of Star Trek and that was pretty much my leap into the sci-fi genre.

Captain Kirk is very active on twitter, you can find, follow, and interact with Mr. Shatner here: WilliamShatner, and together with his wife, Elizabeth, they have spearheaded a charity called The All Glory Project. Raising money for many great charities, Mr. Shatner and his wife, Elizabeth have hearts of gold.

There is nothing that I don’t love about him! Star Trek Voyager Cast Photo IMDbIf Star Trek: Voyager was more your speed, SCCC is having a Star Trek: Voyager 20th anniversary celebration on July 25th. Kate Mulgrew, Starfleet Captain Kathryn Janeway, will be there along with other cast mates Ethan Phillips, Manu Intiraymi, artist Rick Sternbach, Tim Russ, Garrett Wang, Robert Beltran and Robert Picardo.

I would recommend checking the schedules first, because you may have your hearts set on seeing some of your favorites, however they may only be at SCCC certain days and times. Assassin's Creed BannerPower Rangers Time Force PhotoAssassin’s Creed (AC) fans unite! A huge fan of AC myself, mostly countless hours watching my son play, I love all that goes into creating this video game. From the artwork, motion capture, to the voices behind the game. AC is a game based on rivalry between two secret societies, the Knights Templar and Assassins. Good versus evil.

Scheduled to appear at SCCC are Altair ibn La-Ahad (Cas Anvar, from Source Code, Syfy‘s Olympus), Edward Kenway (Matt Ryan, most recently of Constantine, but also from Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior), Aveline de Grandpre (Amber Goldfarb, from SYFY hits Helix and Being Human), and Federico Auditore da Firenze (Elias Toufexis, from Deus Ex and Bitten).

For the avid Power Rangers fans, an historic reunion is being set for SCCC featuring Power Rangers: Time Force. I have what I refer to as my ‘secret shame’ when it comes to the Power Rangers. I used to watch it with my son and was caught more than once watching them long after my son had left the room. Gigi Edgley Portrait

Even though he seems to have outgrown them, I am kind of excited about reliving that with him! Not the busted alone part.. Speaking of when you’re younger, one often watches shows where you find yourself loving the characters but don’t stop to think too much about who the person is behind it or under the make-up. You just sit and watch, fascinated.

I was very pleased when I recently learned that Gigi Edgley was the brilliant actor behind Chiana from Farscape! She was one of the reasons I loved watching that show and was easily my favorite character. The make-up, the costume and energy!

Gigi has not been idle since Farscape, doing things from recording artist to directing and producing. Make sure to stop by and say hi to Ms. Edgley while at SCCC. Manu Bennett PortraitManu Bennett who plays Deathstroke on the CW’s Arrow, yes please! I love a good Supervillain! “A man is only as good as his word. But in the underground world of assassins, mercenaries, and guns-for-hire, words mean little. What matters is action and follow through—completing the mission.

That is what makes you good. Never failing—even when it comes to taking down the World’s Greatest Super Heroes, some of the most powerful beings in the world—that’s what makes you the best. That’s what makes you Deathstroke” DC Comics.

As an added bonus VIP passes for Manu Bennett and *Matt Ryan now include a small meet and greet! These two are not the only guests with VIP opportunities, check out the SCCC website for more details. Maguire, Skarsten, McGowan, and Murray Images

There is something for everyone from what seems like all genres- including Once Upon a Time!

Guess what Oncers? – Robin Hood is coming to Houston. I first saw Sean Maguire in 2008’s Meet the Spartans and this guy is hilarious!

And from One Tree Hill cast members Chad Michael Murray (recently played Mirabeau Lamar in Texas Rising), Antwon Tanner, and Michael Copon. Still more, get set to meet the beautiful and talented Rachel Skarsten of Lost Girl, Reign, and Birds of Prey who is scheduled to attend, as well as Captain Charles Vane of Starz’s Black Sails, Zach McGowan.

Cosplay ImagesIf the world of cosplay piques your interest, be certain not to miss Soni Aralynn, Hybrid Cosplay, Tatiana DeKhtyar, Mista Sean J, Vamptress LeeAnna Vamp, to name just a few of the many more to appear. I’m hoping to see some X-Men and, even though you see her a lot, Harley Quinn, to see all the different takes on her costume.

I love the creativity and attention to detail these cosplayers put into their character’s costumes. It is amazing that one can be a professional cosplayer, but when you see the quality of their work, it is not hard to think these artists are anything less than pros!

Marvel ArtAnd as if all of the entertainers on this green earth are not enough for you, check out the myriad of comic illustrators, graphic artists, photographers, and writers.

I know that I am stopping by to see them and their work! They’ve worked on comic books like Spiderman, Catwoman, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and X-Men – just about everything in both the Marvel and DC Comics Universes. Tartanic Portrait

And as any good advertisement states, “but wait, there’s more!” Tartanic, the touring bagpipe, drum, dance, and comedy ensemble is coming to SCCC! One biography reads, “Imagine one dancer, six drums, six drones, 18 notes, fast fingers, high comedy, flying happiness, taste-defying stunts, and scorching hot music played at over 120 beats per minute with driving speed and high volume, all brought to you by four men without pants and two smokin’ hot lasses!”

This fun group is definitely on my SCCC must list! Space City Comic Con BannerThere will be so much to do and see at Space City Comic Con! I’m positive that I didn’t fit everything in.

For details and schedules, and to purchase tickets and passes, you can jump over to Space City Comic Con’s site. There you can see all guests scheduled to appear. I hope to see you there!

Do You Know His Name? It’s Robert K. Weeks Sr. Rest In Peace – Father, Veteran & WormholeRider!

Welcome to 2013 WormholeRiders for a task I promised to complete,

In 2012, humanity lost many critically acclaimed individuals to death. While dying is part of life on our fair planet, some are not ready to die, while others prepare for it. As we will discuss herein, those ready to move beyond reality as we know it must ask themselves; Are You Ready to Die, Do You Know My Name, and Who I Really Was?

Robert K. Weeks Sr during World War Two

At WormholeRiders News Agency, we lost one of our most respected critics, advisers and contributors, Robert K. Weeks Sr., my wonderful father, who passed in December of 2012 before completing his 87th year of life.

WonderCon 2010 - Robert K. Weeks Sr. with Press BadgeIn the twenty-first century, Robert K. Weeks Sr. looked to accomplish several things that were a reflection of his past. Robert believed in the following which he tried to teach to his family. I learned this at a young age, while some I know never will be able to do so:

“What robs you of power, is anytime you take a position and you attach yourself to it. So power in the world is represented by being able to operate in it in a condition of no agreement from a position which you are not attached to – to be able to take a point of view, hold it in the face of no agreement, and yet not be attached to that point of view. So that the moment that that point of view is no longer appropriate, you’ll be able to drop it instantly. And that represents power, or that thing which serves people to be able to allow them to look at their own minds.”

Robert K. Weeks Sr children (l-r) Jeanne, Robert Jr., Gene and Kenn circa 1969Robert K. Weeks Sr. loved being around people and attending entertainment events and conventions. In the last years of his life he enjoyed Creation Entertainments Star Trek vendors room at the Saint Francis Hotel, The Alternative Press Exposition, and most of all Wonder Con, all in San Francisco during 2009, 2010 and 2011 during his 8th decade of life.

We here at WHR ask you understand why we honor Robert K. Weeks Sr., who had great involvement with WormholeRiders, casinos, entertainment, news, his family, his beloved wife, the love of his life, Jeannie Marie Weeks, all the while fighting for fairness and understanding against all odds until the end of his life.

Robert K. Weeks wife Jeanne Marie Weeks the love of his life in 2006

WonderCon 2010 - Robert K. Weeks with Storm Trooper, convention official and Kenn R Weeks

Robert loved the Golden Gate Bridge, Stargate, 24, Star Wars (in specific, the wisdom of Yoda) and had great admiration for John Noble’s portrayal of Walter Bishop in Fringe, William Shatner as Captain Kirk and Sir Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard in Star Trek.

Although Robert thought Sean Connery was the best “007” in Goldfinger, he loved Roger Craig as the new James Bond feeling that the new films more accurately reflected the works of Ian Fleming of which he admired!

I will never forget his glee at being at the Moscone Convention Center meeting celebrities and fans who came to see Fringe, V Series, and Human Target among many others.

We include an interview below from April 2010 which reflects his pride and knowledge of the city he loved, San Francisco.

A Brief History of Robert K. Weeks Sr.:

Robert K. Weeks Sr as an infant circa 1927Robert K. Weeks Sr. was born October 15, 1926 in San Francisco. He loved entertainment since his earliest pre adolescent days at the movies in the 1930’s when they cost a mere ten cents, often with a big bag of popcorn included in the price of admission!

Mind you ten cents was a lot of money during the Great Depression, but as discussed in his interview above, Robert worked as a newspaper boy turning over almost all the money he earned to his parents to help support his family. The only exception was the ten cents needed to gain admission to the movies he loved to see each weekend.

This followed with his involvement during World War Two in the Pacific where he took great pride in working with entertainment industry staff showing movies during his time with the Army Pictorial Service where hundreds of thousands enjoyed time away from war by watching feature films. This after he became involved with the first stereophonic films as a projectionist in San Francisco before joining the Unites States Army to fight the evil that threatened to loot the Earth.

Before entering the war, as he sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge, Robert was sure that he would never see the city he loved, San Francisco, ever again. He re-called the greatest mistake of Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), when as a high school student he witnessed his friends, Japanese American citizens taken away, who were removed directly from his classrooms to face unjust interment.

With so many being lost to fight the scourge of the Nazi’s in Europe and the fascist Japanese in Asia, knowing he would be part of the pending invasion of Japan, Robert was certain he would make the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Although an admirer of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Robert never agreed with FDR’s decision in 1942 to unjustly imprison United States citizens over racial fear and race hatred.

Those taken were Robert’s personal Japanese friends, patriots themselves who went on to join the fabled 442nd Division who saved so many, answering the question “Are You Ready to Die?”  at the cost of their own lives fighting for freedom against tyranny.

Robert’s love of life included a Courts Martial in the Philippines with loss of rank for failing to “shoot to kill” innocent citizens involved who were attempting  to feed their families who had been starved nearly to death by occupying Japanese soldiers.

Robert had no issue with the “shoot to kill” order for combatants. He did “shoot to kill” to save his fellow soldiers and once to save his own life when a supply depot was overrun by Japanese soldiers outside Leyte.

Robert faced Courts Martial because as an expert marksman, he would “wing” the civilians, not once but several times. His superior officers, knowing of Robert’s great skill with firearms, knew he was deliberately saving the lives of the civilian looters against their orders. Robert was then re-assigned to a unit of the US Army Pictorial Service where he served with the entertainment industry until his honorable discharge from the US Army in 1946.

After the war, returning to San Francisco to his parents whom he loved and honored until their death, Robert moved to Las Vegas when the city had but a single street. During his time there, Robert met, partied, gambled, and drank with many more celebrities, entertainment industry executives and politicians who would use the booming city as one of their “Hollywood getaway” locations.

Earning respect among them for his high ethical standards, Robert would call upon these powerful people later in life to fight injustice and help those less fortunate in life after many successes that made him a wealthy man in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

During the Civil Rights Riots in San Francisco during 1966, a city still suffering from racial prejudice dating back to the United States Civil War of the 1860’s when California was allied with the Confederate Slave States of the South, Robert made it his personal goal to hire and train racial minorities so they could have good paying jobs to support their families.

While others cars were being fire bombed, as police manned the streets to stop the the riots, Robert was safely escorted by community leaders through the dangerous Hunters Point, Bay View and Potrero Hill districts by black leaders for his service to their community, including generous donations of food to the poorest of citizens from his thriving mobile catering business that spanned the entire San Francisco Bay Area.

Like many good people who rise to power, others, some racially prejudiced from his circle of so-called friends, later plotted against him to take away what he had worked so hard for. Partly due to his own penchant for drinking and gambling from his time in Las Vegas, Robert thought that people could be trusted if only he did the “right things” in life as an example to them. He was incorrect in this regard, a lesson that everyone often needs to learn the “hard way” in the “school of the hard knocks of life”.

Click to learn about the Fort Miley VA Medical Center San FranciscoStricken with several heart attacks and strokes from alcohol abuse, Robert’s food service empire crumbled as his enemies, vultures all, swooped in to devour what he had created.

After many years of rehabilitation thanks to hundreds of dedicated doctors and nurses at the Fort Miley VA Medical Center, part of the United States Veterans Administration, Robert became involved with several business ventures, some successful, including a return to the historic Hunters Point Naval Shipyard in 1980.

Robert K. Weeks Sr dream taken away by an embezzlerRobert was once again stabbed in the back by his partner in 1986 who embezzled funds from a Four Star San Francisco restaurant, television and movie location catering project, Bay Area Location Catering, a successful endeavor that he had worked so hard on.

Many blamed him rather than seek the truth as had the Grand Jury who cleared him of any wrong doing thanks to a computerized records keeping system developed by this editor that documented he was innocent of wrong doing.

Members of his own family, including two of his selfish children often blamed him and others for their own problems. These two of his children attempted to loot his mother’s and sister’s estates after their deaths, including theft of jewelry, personal property and manipulation of real estate land titles.

Robert K. Weeks Sr. at Ranch Hot Tub Green RoomRobert K. Weeks Sr. forgave them as any father should, but they never really forgave him for catching them “red handed” with their hands “in the cookie jar” of the family estate.

They retaliated by forcing a sale of his mother’s ranch property rather than work in unison as a family to save the historic estate that had been a family retreat for over 185 years before California was even part of the United States of America.

It broke Robert’s heart when one of his children refused any and all offers to save “The Ranch”.

Robert K. Weeks Sr. Golden Gate National Park circa 2011Their most heinous act was on June 17 2011, the day before Fathers Day, when the two threatened that unless he went along with their plans to favor them over his other children, among other things best left unmentioned at this time, that he would never be allowed to see his grandson or ex-wife ever again.

They made good on their threat, tormenting him for the next 18 months, only relinquishing to allow him to speak to his wife via telephone on his death bed.

In his last words, Robert, whom was “Ready to Die” after fighting and winning against heart failure for over 32 years, asked me to share these words in a news report with you here at WormholeRiders to say “I forgive them and love them”.

Robert K. Weeks Sr. circa 2012 before hospitalization at San Francisco Ocean Beach where he played as a childMany hours of high definition video of Robert K. Weeks’ adventures in life are being prepared per his final request to share privately with his family.

Caring for Robert during his last years of life, especially in 2012 caused me to make well considered choices leading to falling behind on reporting some events, movies and television series.

I was honor bound to attend to his last wishes on planet Earth and am proud to have done so.

I also note, with great appreciation, that the fine doctors, social workers and nurse’s at the Fort Miley Veterans Hospital made my fathers last months of life as comfortable as possible. I am deeply indebted to each and every one of them, many whom have written, called or sent cards about Robert’s life. Thank you.

This is the hardest news article I have ever written, to relate a person’s last wishes, but as he requested, and as I promised… Now “You Know His Name”; It is Robert K. Weeks Sr. – “Rest In Peace” Dad!

The MGM Studios “Casino Royale” theme song “You Know My Name” by Chris Parnell was specifically selected for this article reflecting what Robert wanted to let you know about how he felt about his life.

In closing for now, WHR has redesigned this main blog site for 2013 and beyond. We will return with more of the new format here at WormholeRiders Dot Com now that my task in reporting this story is complete.

I leave you with one of Robert K. Weeks Sr. favorite songs, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”, performed by Tony Bennett, whom he met more than once in his lifetime.

San Diego Comic Con 2010 Overview: I Survived!

    ComicCon-2010 banner

    Hey there Comic Con fans!

Comic-Con-IntlAfter preview night I had a feeling I had gotten myself into something massive.

I had no idea how right I was.

    Yikes!

Ludo and me at preview night

    Thursday

I was up early but slow moving. Not a good start for the first full day of the convention. Not surprisingly, parking was hard to find. We went to five or six full parking lots before we found a space.. We almost missed getting into Hall H, the biggest panel room at the convention center. I think it holds over 6,500 people. When I finally DID make it in, I couldn’t believe how many people were there. It was standing room only for the entire day. I could feel the excitement. They don’t clear out the panel rooms and there was plenty I wanted to see in Hall H, so I decided to keep my seat and watch the panels there all day. It meant missing some panels in other rooms, but these are the decisions you have to make when going to a larger convention. It’s impossible to see and do everything.

    Hall H

Megamind was the first panel of the day. I didn’t know much about it aside from knowing it is another DreamWorks movie. I’m a huge DreamWorks fan so I had a feeling I’d love what I was about to see. Also, I was given 3-D glasses when I walked into the theater. Everyone was really excited when the MC came out and said we had a special guest. I was sitting a bit far from the stage but I saw a guy in blue paint and a funny costume come running out onto the stage. He said he’d brought donuts for everyone and wasn’t aware there’d be so many of us. I realized he was Will Ferrell badly dressed as Megamind. Ferrell stars as the villain in the DreamWorks movie. It’s their first superhero movie and from the 3-D clip I saw, it looks hilarious. Not only that but I definitely think I can bring both my nine and sixteen year old daughters to see it.

    Will Ferrell as Megamind

Tina Fey with cutout Brad Pitt

What is Megamind? Many people have asked. It’s DreamWorks’ first super hero movie. It stars Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill and Brad Pitt. After seeing the preview, in 3-D, I have to say it looks AWESOME! Basically it’s a “what if the bad guy wins” story. Tina Fey then joined Ferrell on the stage. She looked beautiful and was dressed nicely, no surprise there. Jonah Hill looked adorable in his blazer and pants. He was the last one on the panel. Well, that’s not totally true. They did bring Brad Pitt out—in cardboard cutout form. Megamind will be out in theaters this November. I can’t wait!

    Megamind

Tron was next. I have to say I have been geeking out over a new Tron movie. I did love the first one. To call this version a reboot is an understatement. As Jeff Bridges put it, the new movie makes the original look like an old black and white film. This is another 3-D movie that I cannot wait to see in the theater. The few minutes I saw have completely sold me on it. I love that Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner are both in the new version. Patton Oswalt was the moderator for this panel. I loved that the original creator of Tron, Steven Lisberger, was also a guest. It seems they have tried hard to keep the integrity of Tron in the movie but improve it so it fits in with this millennium instead of the last one.

    Tron panel

It’s been 27 years since the first Tron was in theaters. Wow. That makes me feel old. I’m not going to lie. Starring in the movie are Michael Sheen and Olivia Wilde. After we saw the movie clip we were told if we were a good audience we’d get to be in the movie. They needed crowd noises. We were instructed to look at the screen and say exactly what was on the screen with the bouncing disk (get it, not a ball because it’s Tron) landed on the word. So… if you listen closely in the movie you may be able hear me yelling. We had to say things like, “Disk! Wars!” and “Rinz! Ler!” and “Dee! Rez!” Then they wanted foot stomping. It may not sound exciting but just trying doing that in a room full of 6,500 geeks and not get excited. I could not help myself. It was fun even if we’re not actually used in the movie.

    Tron vehicle

Tron will be coming to theaters December 17, 2010.

Jack Sparrow interrupted our break in Hall H to tell us he was not looking for pirates to sail with him on a new Adventure. Apparently Disney will be releasing the fourth pirates movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, next May. Also, Gillermo del Toro came on stage to let us know about a new “Haunted Mansion” reboot. They won’t be calling Eddie Murphy for this one. Del Toro said it will be scary so be sure to bring your children. I’m a Haunted Mansion fan, I love the ride. I’ve grown up going on it. I really hope the reboot is an improvement over the last version.

    Gillermo del Toro

During the break between panels, Pauly Shore walked in and signed autos for people. That was bizarre. Although, as I would later find out, not terribly bizarre. Guests have a habit of walking in on other panels and surprising the fans. That’s certainly a cool thing about Comic Con.

Next up was the “Salt” panel starring Angelina Jolie. She looked gorgeous as ever. I was impressed to learn that she did her own stunts for the movie. I saw the preview and I think the woman has no fear. If you’re an Angelina Jolie fan and/or an adrenaline nut you’ll probably want to check out this movie. It’s already in theaters.

    Angelina Jolie

I have to say the fan oddly dressed as Spider-man that went to the Q&A mic surprised us all by asking a serious question about stunts. What did he ask exactly? I can’t remember. I just know we were all so distracted from his outfit that we were laughing. All of us, that is, aside from Angelina Jolie. She listened and answered him. She was very respectful of the fans and gracious, too.

    Spider-man dressed fan

I’d never heard of Battle Los Angeles. I do like the whole “aliens invade earth and we have to fight them or die” type of movie. Like Independence Day or even Signs. Battle Los Angeles is this type of movie. It stars Michelle Rodriguez and Aaron Eckhart, is produced by Neal Moritz and will be out in theaters March 11, 2011.

    Battle Los Angeles panel

Battle Los Angeles helicopter and me

I took a break from Comic Con because I was invited to take a tour of the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln. How could I pass that up? Captain Mueller was kind enough to get us on board and show us as much of the carrier ship as we could handle in about two hours. I feel like I crawled all over every inch of that place.

    USS Abraham Lincoln

I’m guessing that we only saw less than a sixth of it. We were very spoiled as we were allowed into the bridge. What amazed me is how high-tech it all is. Don’t mess with the Lincoln. With five thousand troops on board and people watching both the surface and the skies, not to mention all the fire power, you’ll regret starting a fight with that ship.

I'm in the Captain's chair of the USS Abraham Lincoln

After such a long tour of climbing up and down stairs (hey! It’s a workout! You try it and then tell me it’s not!), we went for dinner on Coronado Island. Then I was done for the day. Even though Thursday was a crazy busy day I knew that Friday would make Thursday look like a cakewalk. I needed all the rest I could get. What I wondered as I went to bed was, “Will I survive Friday?”

    Friday

Another early start. Up and out of the condo before 6:15 am. I’d spent part of the previous day running around one of the largest conventions in existence and the other part of the day running around one of the largest carrier vessels ever created. I really didn’t want to miss any panels, so I was up and ready to start the second busiest day of Comic Con. And according to TagHive on Twitter, I was already the top tweeter for the convention. I had my work cut out for me.

Of all the things on the agenda for Friday, I was most looking forward to the Tweet House party that night. We realized that while parking near the U. S. S. Midway was a good idea it meant a very long walk to the convention center. Luckily we found a rickshaw for hire! So we hopped in and our driver got us to the convention in record time. Plus, he was kind of cute.

    rickshaw driver

Today we would spend the majority of the day in Ballroom 20. I think it’s the second largest panel room. The Stargate Universe panel was up first. I noticed that Louis Ferriera’s name was not up on the table but Alaina Huffman’s name was. Although I was sad about missing Ferriera, I was excited to see Huffman again. She’s absolutely a wonder-person.

    SGU Panel

The guests were Alaina Huffman, Ming Na, Robert Carlyle and last but certainly not least, David Blue. The moderator was none other than Robert Cooper. I could not wait for this panel to begin. Finally, Mr. Cooper introduced the guests and the fun began. Ming Na cracked us all up by petting her iPhone and calling it her iPrecious.

    Ming Na and her iPrecious

David Blue said that nerds need love too. As a nerd I could not agree more. I think nerds may even need more love than non-nerd people. The news that surprised many people is Eli finally gets love. Apparently he winds up involved with a Lucian Alliance woman. I’m hoping Eli is treated well.

David Blue and his charming smile

Alaina Huffman was asked how she can play a character who seems the complete opposite of her. I have to agree. TJ is very serious and even sad. In contrast, Huffman is bubbly, happy and fun to be around. Huffman explained that she lives in the moment. She also said that “work is a relax” for her. She juggles three kids, a husband and a brother at home. She is one busy woman. Ming Na had us all applaud Huffman for being able to handle all those responsibilities. There is no doubt that this cast greatly appreciates and respects one another.

    Alaina Huffman

Robert Carlyle directs an episode in the next part of season two. It will be called “Pathogen.” I also here we will get to see the bridge, finally, of the Destiny. And emotions are escalated. It sounds like season two is just getting started.

    Robert Carlyle

The biggest news of the entire panel is that David Hewlett and Robert Picardo will be making guest appearances on Stargate Universe as a crossover type episode with Stargate Atlantis. I’ve mentioned I’m a squirrel. For those of you who haven’t heard me shout that from the rooftops, being a squirrel means I’m a fan of David Hewlett’s. I have missed Rodney so much! That should be a fantastic episode. And honestly, I’ve missed Woolsey, too. It will be great to see both of them.

    Robert Cooper

All too soon the SGU panel was over. Next up was Caprica. I’ll be honest. I don’t watch Caprica. Nothing against it. I just watch way too much television (if there is such a thing) and cannot watch everything. Although I’d really like too. Anyway, the Caprica panel was cool. I think it’s the first James Marsters panel I’ve seen. I was excited about that because I’m a fan of his since I saw him play Spike on Buffy.

    Caprica Panel

The cast says to expect great things for the next season of the show. Alessandra Torresani says that you won’t expect what’s happening. Sounds like there is definite girl power to be seen. Marsters made a joke about being on Buffy and how maybe, just maybe he’d seen tough girls fight. He said he can actually identify with his character, Barnabas Greeley, but thinks he carries things too far. And Alessandra says that she has to show most of her character’s emotions through her eyes which is tough to do. Sasha Roiz also stars on the show and was at the panel. Caprica sounds like a complicated, thought provoking show.

Bazinga! I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was UBER excited about the Big Bang Theory panel. I’ve been watching this show since the pilot and have been hooked ever since. In fact, I’m in major withdrawal without new episodes to watch each week. I knew that something was different about this panel because they brought out instruments like a cello, accordion and an acoustic guitar. I’d never seen that before and couldn’t figure out what they were up to. Not even when they handed us all lyrics to the theme song for the show. It’s performed by a band I love, The Bare Naked Ladies. The panel was being introduced and we were asked if we liked the theme song. Of course everyone in the room is agreeing when all of a sudden the Bare Naked Ladies were introduced! They jumped out on stage literally just feet in front of me and started playing the theme song. I could NOT believe my eyes. Fortunately we had cameras with us. I have pictures to remind myself it did happen.

Bare Naked Ladies at the Big Bang Theory panel

We got to sing along with one of my favorite bands to a theme song to one of my favorite shows. Does life get any better than this? It does! Because then they brought out almost the entire cast of the show. All the big names were there, Penny, Sheldon, Wolowitz, Raj and Leonard (Kaley Cuoco, Jim Parsons, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Johnny Galecki respectively). Not only that, Wil Wheaton was the moderator. Wheaton plays an evil version of himself on the show. It was a fantastic panel.

    Big Bang Theory panel

I was surprised when Wheaton said he believes Cuoco is the geekiest one on the set. I’m still not sure if that’s true or not. Although she’s a massive Harry Potter fan and was the first one on the set to have a Kindle, she didn’t know who Wheaton is when she was told he would be guest starring on the show.

    Kaley Cuoco

A fan wanted to know if there would be any chance of The Big Bang Theory going to Comic Con. The producers gave one of the best answers, “We’re an indoor cat.” They said they are so used to filming on sets and in controlled environments that they would not be sure how to attempt filming at Comic Con. That’s too bad, though. It would be a funny episode, I’m sure, if they could figure out how to be an outside cat.

Kaley Cuoco, Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki

    Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg

Expect to see the evil Wil Wheaton appearing at some point. I’m looking forward to that. I think Wheaton has brought something extra geeky and special to the show. For any Star Trek/Big Bang Theory fans out there I’m sure you know what I mean.

    Wil Wheaton

Then the cast treated us to a live performance of “Soft Kitty.” Although at first Parsons complained when the request was made, saying it’s only for when you’re sick. Mayim Bialik is also expected to appear in the upcoming season. All too soon, the panel was over. I was actually sad. It was the first Big Bang Theory fix I’d had in weeks. Now I have to wait for the new episodes beginning this September.

I decided to take a break from panels and go check out the Exhibitor Hall again. I did some shopping and more window shopping. Then I was hungry. I decided to try out Café Diem. I’d heard it was pretty cool and also had good food. The thought of sitting down at a restaurant a bit away from the crowd sounded very appealing, too.

    cafe diem

Café Diem was a lot of fun. Syfy seemed to go all out transforming the place into the restaurant on Eureka. Even the menus were all Syfy foods. I rested my tired feet and filled my empty belly. It was a much needed break from all the crazy chaos of the convention. I was done eating and doing some writing when someone caught my eye. I looked over and had to laugh to myself. There was a guy walking around who looked just like Eureka’s Sheriff Carter. The fabulous and talented Colin Ferguson. But I knew it wasn’t him. I mean, if I were him would I show up at Café Diem? Well, actually that is something I would do. Then I realized a girl with a remarkable resemblance to Zoe Carter, the sheriff’s daughter, was standing next to him. Finally it dawned on me: I was looking at THE Colin Ferguson and THE Jordan Hinson! How crazy is that?!

Me, Colin Ferguson and Jordan Hinson

I had to run over and introduce myself. They were very gracious and allowed me to take a picture with both of them. I have to say that both Ferguson and Hinson are wonderful people. Plus Hinson is even more adorable in person, as if that’s possible.

I went back and sat down and just as I did so in walked Sasha Roiz and Alessandra Of Caprica! While Alessandra was busy getting her picture taken in the Syfy picture machine, I asked Sasha if I could have a picture with him. He generously agreed. As you can see from the picture he’s a very short man. And I told him so. I think I confused him at first but then he laughed and said that somehow he looks so tall on camera but is actually very short in person. I’m guessing he comes in at just under 6’ 6”. Small fry.

    Me with Sasha Roiz

Next up was the Tweet House party aboard the U.S.S. Midway. I know, I know, TWO carrier ships in the same number of days. I was a lucky girl. I wanted to arrive at the party on time because rumor had it none other than William Shatner would be landing a helicopter on the ship. Wasn’t I bummed to find out that Shatner landed almost an hour before the party started. However, he did stay and talk a bit. So that was good.

There was also a Pixar panel and a couple of bands played including Heavy Young Heathens. I was exhausted at this point. So it was time to call it a night. After all, the biggest day, Saturday, was still ahead of me. I had been warned that it would make the other days so far pale in comparison.

    Saturday

I was surprised I woke up for my alarm. And I hurt all over. I was so tempted to sleep in and miss half the day. Comic Con is like running a marathon. Or so I would guess. I’ve never actually run a marathon. I felt like I had, though. Or that I’d been hit by a truck. However there were places to go and people to gawk at! I got up and forced myself to get dressed and ready for the day.

To be honest there was one word that kept me motivated: Chuck! First up was the Chuck panel. I’m a huge Chuck fan, haven’t missed an episode yet, and could not wait for the panel. I’d been told that Jeffster actually performed at last year’s Comic Con. We were told to expect something different. Some of us speculated if someone different would be performing. I was hoping that wasn’t the case, I did want to see Jeffster live.

Turns out there was a Jeffster video done to Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance. Naturally it was hilarious! As we’re watching the video and laughing, I start hearing people cheering. I look away from the video screen and see Jeffster on stage! They were dancing for us! EPIC!

    Jeffster

They danced for a bit and had the entire crowd laughing. Then the entire cast of Chuck came out! I mean basically EVERYONE I would consider a major or somewhat important character. Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Sarah Lancaster, Adam Baldwin, Joshua Gomez, Ryan McPartlin, Mark Christopher Lawrence joined Vik Sahay and Scott Krinsky on stage. And that wasn’t all! After they all danced for us they threw “Nerd” tee shirts out into the audience. Thanks to the great arm on Jeremy, I am now the proud own of a “Nerd” shirt thrown by non other than Chuck himself! Woohoo! I’ll wear it with major geek pride. I mean nerd pride.

They certainly gave us some spoilers. Such as who will be playing Chuck’s mother, will Jeffster return and what guest stars we can expect to see on the show. The answers are Linda Hamilton, yes and the Old Spice Guy, Isaiah Mustafa respectively. The next season of Chuck is going to be everything I’ve come to love in the show and more. I will certainly be tuning in to watch.

Family Guy followed the Chuck panel. What I will remember most is how Seth MacFarlane sang as the voice of Stewie while we watched a video of it, live. That was pretty amazing. I don’t think he made a single mistake. Singing is hard enough, but add to that singing in another character’s voice live in front of 4,500 people AND timing it right so it’s in sync with a video is nothing less than fantastic. I kept looking back and forth from the video to MacFarlane. It was very weird — and also extremely cool.

I was about to watch the Cleveland panel when I got a phone call. It was time for my Robert Cooper interview and I had to leave the convention center and find the hotel where the Stargate Universe cast was. I practically ran with all my stuff and made it there fairly quickly. The rest of the Wormholeriders team was there, too, accept for Rigel, aka SciFiFanGirl616. We would be interviewing Cooper, Ming Na, Robert Carlyle and David Blue. My interview with Cooper was first.

    Robert Cooper

Actually, this was my first ever interview. Was I nervous? No. Not at all. Am I lying right now? Oh heck yeah! I was so nervous. However I was also excited to be the one interviewing Cooper. He is a pillar in the Stargate franchise and someone I personally think is wonderful. He’s had a hand in some of my all-time favorite Stargate episodes and has worked on all three shows. The news that he is taking a step back from Stargate is sad. You can see the interview here: (http://wormholeriders.com/blog/?p=16706)

I thought the interview went fairly well since I didn’t lose consciousness, cry, or run away. And thankfully, neither did Mr. Cooper. I do want to thank Robert Cooper for his time and for allowing me to interview him. Also, thank you Syfy and MGM Studios. It was such an honor.

I was wandering the hotel and happened to run into some of the cast from Warehouse 13. I could not believe my luck! I got to hug Saul Rubinek as well as Eddie McClintock. I also got to talk to Allison Scagliotti. Seriously good times. If you don’t know, I happen to cover Warehouse 13. If you don’t watch the show, why not? It’s a fun show! What are you waiting for?

I had to go back to the convention center because I had press room access for the series “V.” I am a fan of the show and had the pleasure of interviewing both Morris Chestnut (Ryan) and Laura Vandervoort (Lisa). Both lovely and talented actors. It sounds like there are some very cool things in store for us “V” fans in the upcoming season. Why am I getting the feeling that I’m going to have way too many shows to watch in the coming months? Stay tuned to the Wormholeriders site for my interviews with Chestnut and Vandervoort.

After the “V” press room I was free! I had survived Saturday! HORRAY! I was happy but so exhausted. And starving. I think aside from half a yogurt at like five in the morning I’d eaten a cookie. So on the way back to my in-laws condo we got sushi. Delicious, filling sushi. And then I pretty much crashed. I had to get up early yet again for Sunday. I did not want to miss the Smallville and Supernatural panels.

    Sunday

I was up bright and early again. Even before the sun. I seemed to be making a painful habit out of it. However it was for a worthy cause. I was excited about the Smallville panel. Good thing I was up early because literally thousands of other Comic Con attendees were excited about the Smallville panel too. I was able to get in line and eventually, after a two hour wait, get a seat inside the room. It wasn’t the first row but I didn’t care. I was in the room!

John Scneider and Tom Welling of Smallville

First I want to congratulate Smallville for holding the title now as the longest running science fiction show. As a steadfast Stargate fan this is a sad moment for me; I’ll be honest. Smallville has now passed up Stargate SG-1. However, I congratulate Smallville. Science fiction shows are starting to finally have the longevity they deserve. However, the tenth and final season of Smallville looks astounding. I think this show is going out with a bang. In a good way. As they said at the panel they are throwing everything including the kitchen sink into the final season. They showed us the sneak peak and I have to say it looks like a very meaty season. Even Clark’s father, Jonathan, will be back. And, the question most Superman fans have been waiting for: Will Kal-El fly? We were told that we know how the comic book turns out. So that’s a yes. Finally we get to see him fly!

Erica Durance and Justin Hartley of Smallville

Supernatural: My final panel of Comic Con. I’ve been a fan of this show since the pilot. This show seems to be that cat with nine lives. I’m told this is the final season of Supernatural, however I am pretty sure I’ve heard that in past seasons. Still, the upcoming season looks very interesting. What are fans to expect? Weekly monsters returns, the brothers still work on their relationship, Cass may have a Russian accent (ok not really) and no more kissing for Bobby. When asked how Sam will get out of Hell, Jared Padalecki said he wasn’t sure but maybe he gets out with practice. He was alluding to the fact that this isn’t Sam’s first trip to Hell. In fact, Dean and their father have been to Hell. Trips to Hell, and getting out, seem to be a family trait.

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles of Supernatural

When asked if Chuck, the prophet, was actually God, the panel would not give an answer. Apparently the writers want each person to interpret who God is on their own. So for all you fans out there thinking Chuck is really God, well, keep thinking that. It’s your prerogative.

    Supernatural panel

Gag reels can either be hilarious or lame. I had never seen a Supernatural gag reel before and I have to say I have been missing out. We were shown a sneak peak of the gag reel and I literally laughed so hard I cried. Of course, with fantastic premier episode music and a hilarious performance of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” to rule ALL “Eye of the Tiger” performances, I should have known the gag reel would be epic. Even if you’re not a Supernatural fan you should check it out. I have a feeling it will win you over. Supernatural’s final (as far as we know) season seems to keep that snarkastic sense of humor that gives the show it’s edge over other horror type shows.

Sadly the gag reel and Supernatural panel had to come to an end. I had just one last thing to do before my Comic Con experience was over: interview the Scooby Doo people.

    Scooby Doo Mystery Inc

Me and Spike Brandt of Scooby Doo

I’ve been a Scooby Doo fan literally my whole life. Not only did I grow up watching the show, I grew up with Great Danes. When we bought our house I turned my oldest daughter’s bedroom, playroom and bathroom into Scooby rooms. I painted the characters on the walls and decorated with whatever Scooby knick-knacks I could find. To say I was excited about interview the people making the newest Scooby incarnation was an understatement. I was thrilled!

    Dan Krall and me

Matthew Lillard, the voice of Shaggy, and me

I had the pleasure of interviewing Matthew Lillard, the voice of Shaggy, supervising producers Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone, producer Mitch Watson, and art director Dan Krall. My interviews will be up on Wormholeriders soon. I will say that I loved speaking with these people and picking their brain about one of my favorite shows. They certainly have me excited about Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated airing Mondays at 7pm on Cartoon Network. Many of these talented people have worked on classic shows like Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain and Freakazoid! Need I say more.

    The Scooby Doo gang

And with the last of my interviews, my work was done at Comic Con. As I walked away from the convention center I realized, happily, that I had survived! Yay! I also knew I’d need about a week of sleep when I finally made it back home. Unfortunately, I had an early flight back home the next morning. One more painfully early wake up call for me. I could sleep on the plane though. And I did.
