The Saturn Awards, a prestigious celebration of genre cinema, first graced the entertainment world in 1972, spotlighting the captivating realms of science fiction, fantasy, and horror films.

Over the years, this iconic ceremony has broadened its scope to embrace the magic of television storytelling. In a heartfelt tribute to the late Lance Reddick, the awards introduced in 2024 the inaugural Lance Reddick Legacy Award, honoring Keanu Reeves for his outstanding performances in the beloved John Wick franchise. This accolade embodies a profound appreciation for an actor’s talent and the unforgettable characters they bring to life on screen.

Lance Reddick, a cherished figure within the science fiction community, garnered acclaim for his remarkable role in one of my all-time favorite series, Fringe. His untimely passing in March 2023 left a void in the hearts of fans, yet his enduring legacy will be celebrated through this special award in perpetuity.

Dean Devlin of Electric Entertainment, whose series The Ark earned a nomination, aptly described the Saturn Awards as “a great celebration of nerds cheering on nerd stuff.”

As an admirer of Mr. Devlin’s many contributions to genre entertainment over the past thirty years which include Stargate and Independence Day in then 1990’s, I wholeheartedly resonate with his sentiment!

As devoted science fiction fantasy drama fans, we revel in honoring our favorite narratives and characters, and this year, the highly anticipated Godzilla Minus One has undoubtedly secured its place on our list of cherished highlights.

Godzilla Minus One Director Takashi Yamazaki

Godzilla Minus One is not only a genre film but also sets itself aside as a lesson in filmmaking. As I mentioned, what the director, Takashi Yamazaki, did regarding special effects is astonishing.

Unlike other recent Godzilla movies that are so CGI-heavy that they take you out of the fantasy, Minus One managed to strike a perfect balance. It utilized CGI to enhance the storytelling and create a visually stunning experience without overshadowing the narrative or the iconic monster. This balance is a testament to the film’s quality and a reason for us, as fans, to be reassured about the franchise’s future, knowing it is in good hands.

In this latest interpretation of Godzilla, the narrative strategically emphasizes the deeply woven human stories that resonate throughout the film. The creature, a looming shadow of fear, is not always depicted in its monstrous form but instead manifested through the terror and awareness of its impending presence. The filmmakers masterfully crafted a narrative that operates on multiple levels, disguising itself as a poignant commentary on political and social issues. Within this framework, Godzilla emerges as a powerful symbol of humanity’s hubris, a tangible representation of the chaos and destruction that ensues when conflict ravages a nation. The film unfolds as a chilling reflection on the aftermath of war, illustrating how its consequences give rise to a monstrous reality that lurks beneath the surface. Let us delve into the rich political and social themes “Minus One” explores, revealing how they intricately enhance the film’s overall narrative depth.

    Godzilla Minus One Destruction

What I find captivating about the film is its intricate weaving of Japanese cultural elements, vividly illustrating how the world has grown increasingly complicated. The filmmakers boldly decided to minimize Godzilla’s on-screen presence, yet his overwhelming impact reverberates through the narrative when he does appear. This deliberate restraint heightens the tension and anticipation, making the moments when the monster is revealed even more gripping, allowing the viewers to feel his powerful influence throughout the film.

One compelling reason to celebrate “Minus One” is its complete embrace of the Japanese language, which enriches the film’s authenticity and immerses viewers in a culturally nuanced experience. This choice elevates the storytelling, making it particularly enchanting to enthusiasts of Japanese cinema. Godzilla, a legendary icon, originated in Japan and deserves to be depicted through the lens of its rich cultural heritage.

The film boasts an extraordinary cast, with Minami Hamabe portraying the resilient Noriko Ôishi and Ryûnosuke Kamiki embodying the complex Kôichi Shikishima as they navigate the challenges of post-war Japan. Their performances breathe life into the struggles and emotional depth of a society grappling with its past.

With the release of this latest incarnation of Godzilla, I hope Hollywood will pay attention to the nuances of crafting a genre film. It is a refreshing reminder of how to skillfully operate within the constraints of a modest budget while emphasizing storytelling more. The filmmakers of Minus One demonstrated an impressive ability to utilize visual effects with remarkable efficiency, creating a more immersive experience. Additionally, I was captivated by how the film concluded, leaving viewers with an intriguing hint of potential for a thrilling sequel which is currently being written to add to the seventy year Godzilla phenomena.

In closing, I penned an article that explores my deep affection not just for Godzilla but specifically for Minus One. The sheer brilliance of the filmmakers resonates with me profoundly; their remarkable dedication and creativity breathe new life into this legendary monster, resurrecting it from the figurative grave. It is truly inspiring to witness how they reimagined this iconic creature, blending nostalgia with innovative storytelling. I cannot help but admire their remarkable efforts in elevating the Godzilla legacy to new heights.

The Ark Analysis – Fortunate at Trappist-1D or Not So Much?

Welcome Science Fiction Lovers on The Ark!

We here at TeamWHR have immensely enjoyed this series and hope this is not the last review we write for it. Kudos are deservedly due to the wonderful writers team including series creator Dean Devlin, Jonathan Glassner, India Sage Wilson, Madeline Hendricks Lewen, John-Paul Nickel, James Delorean, Kendall Lampkin, and Rebecca Rosenberg. Additionally, the hard work by series composer Fred Coury, the series costumers, the visual effect team and all the series departments have made The Ark a believable science fiction series.

As we come to the end of the second superb season of The Ark with twenty-four exciting episodes total, we want to thank all who have been involved in bringing the only science fiction space saga to admirers. As the only Space Opera series broadcast weekly on United States and Canada owned stations, as well as now enjoying broadcasts in several overseas markets, it is hoped by millions to be renewed quickly after the second season finale this week.

This was all made possible via the awesome acting talent portrayals of Captain Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke), Lt. Spencer Lane and Ian the clone (Reece Ritchie), Lt. James Brice (Richard Fleeshman), Kelly Fowler (Samantha Glassner), Dr. Sanjivni Kabir (Shalini Peiris), Angus Medford (Ryan Adams), Alicia Nevins (Stacey Read), Eva Markovic (Tiana Upcheva), Security Chief Felix Strickland (Pavle Jerinic), Sasha Novak (Milos Cvetkovic), Jelena Griff (Tamara Radovanovic), William Trust (Paul Leonard Murray), Naomi Spencer (Jessica Yemi), Lati Meir (Coral Mizrachi), Kimi Joma (Díana Bermudez), Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich), Captain Zed Evega (Daniel Fathers), Stella Cogner (Jelena Moore), Maija Lync (Olivera Perunicic), Evil Evelyn Maddox (Jelena Stupljanin), as well as deceased members Cat Brandice (Christina Wolfe) and Helena Trust (Mercedes De La Cruz). In our opinion, The Ark is worthy of a RenewTheArk announcement by SYFY for a third season!

The Ark S2x12 Garnet calls a Command Meeting

The series second season finale begins immediately subsequent to the end of episode eleven “It Will Be Over Soon” with Captain Garnet calling the Ark-1 Command Team of Lt James Brice, Eva Markovic, Alicia Nevins, Kimi Joma, and Dr. Sanjivni Kabir for a meeting with Security Chief Felix Strickland and William Trust.

Viewers will recall in the last episode that Felix had been blackmailed by mysterious unknown individual(s) who claimed to have kidnapped his daughter Katherine. Per the demands of the evil motivating these person(s), we will learn that there are many of them. Fortunately Felix and William faked their deaths demanded by the blackmailer, tricking whoever is involved into thinking they had been successful in killing these characters per the nefarious plans of some megalomaniac!

The Ark S2x12 The view of Arks in orbit
Image by Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

Written by John-Paul Nickel and directed by Jonathan Glassner, we quickly learn during the meeting that Eva and Alicia have a plan to pinpoint the transponder frequency used by the criminal to perpetrate the blackmail once they are actually on Trappist-1D. Naomi comes in to advise Garnet that they are entering orbit, ending the planning meeting.

As they all head to the bridge to take a look at their new home, we are treated to a beautiful visual of Arks, 11, 12, 13 and 15 front sections are observed in orbit. Ark-10 which should have been the first to arrive, is missing from the group, as is Ark-14. Captain Garnet praises William Trust for his elegant design when the aft sections of the four Ark’s are identified on the surface of the planet comprising humanities new colony settlement.

The Ark S2x12 Alicia tells the crew conditions are remarkably like Earth
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

Alicia reports that the conditions are “remarkably like home” (on Earth). However, Lt. Brice reminds everyone they can trust no one until they find out who the blackmailer(s) are. We next are on the Ark-1 shuttle finding out that Ian the clone has joined the Trappist-1D landing party of Captain Garnet, Lt. Brice, Dr. Kabir and Kimi Joma.

Never count a parent out when it comes to protecting their children. Because when the landing party exits the shuttle, we observe that Security Chief Felix Strickland has stowed away on board against orders of Captain Garnet to find out the whereabouts of his daughter.

The Ark S2x12 Governor of Home Base One

The landing party is met by the Governor of the colony a female character named Vesna Ilic (Tamara Aleksic) nicknamed “Ves”. We learn the colony name is known as Home Base One, Interestingly, the colony has children that were supposed to be forbidden on any Ark’s but were apparently carried on Ark-8 as a last minute decision, or so we are told. Governor Ilic informs everyone that Evil Evelyn Maddox is dead, apparently from a “tragic accident shortly before Ark-15 had arrived” on the planet

The Ark S2x12 Ark-1 landing party arriving on the planet
Image by Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

Shortly after arriving on the surface of the planet, Garnet is invited to lunch with the Governor while Ian and James comment that this development (Evil Evelyn being allegedly dead) is exactly what “almost happened to Felix and Trust” setting up the suspense within the story arc that is increased when we observe Felix sneaking around the colony. Wearing a hoodie to disguise himself, Felix sees a group of children, then finds a person with the exact voice of the blackmailer and demands this person tell him where his daughter Katherine (Zoja Milosavljevic) is, forcing the teacher to unlock the computer the man is using.

The Ark S2x12 Felix sees a man who sounds like the blackmailer

If viewers think that this apparently proves the man did not send the blackmail threats from that device, you would be incorrect. However, we do learn that this person is apparently a teacher who reveals that he has three children named Katherine in his “classes”. It is likely that this man is either a clone or is deliberately lying due to his voice that Felix recognized when he was being blackmailed.

Felix stuns the man to protect himself from being discovered while he enters the classroom finding a young women that looks exactly like his daughter. When Felix approaches the youngster, she does not recognize Felix saying “Who are you?”, then screaming “Get away, I don’t know you!”

The Ark S2x12 Felix is taken into custody by Home Base One Gestapo

These revelations lend credence to my theory that Home Base One may be a planet of liars, but for what purpose, we do not know at this time. The man Felix thought he knocked out suddenly appears with several other men who are obviously security police who take Felix into custody while the students in the class act like this is a normal occurance.

It is at this juncture, when Felix’s daughter is hugged by the teacher, that viewers know that something un ”Fortunate” is happening on Home Base One, which should be a happy place, not be infested with brainwashed people including Felix’s daughter, the man with the same voice as the Felix’s blackmailer, and Gestapo like security forces!

The Ark S2x12 Dr Marsh tells Kelly her mother has been reported dead
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

The episode focus moves to Ark-1 where Dr. Marsh is visiting Kelly Fowler who is still being held in custody despite the fact that she helped the crew in the recent past. Marsh says “I want to be the one who tells you, you’re mother has passed”, “We don’t have all the details yet, she never made it to Trappist”.

With a genuinely shocked look on her face Kelly responds “I don’t know how to feel”. Considering Kelly’s previously expressed hatred of Evil Evelyn, the loss of her mother stuns Kelly. We will find out that is not the case shortly, Evil Evelyn is very much alive.

The Ark S2x12 Brice stuffs his face in the Home Base One cafeteria

Next we are in a cafeteria of some sort on Home Base One. Foodstuffs are observed to not in short supply with Kimi, Dr. Kabir and Lt Brice stuffing his face.  While Dr. Kabir says “You think she was murdered too?” Speculating that Evil Evelyn was victim of foul play, Kimi meets an old friend named Gabby Yur, a civilian horticulturist whom Kimi served with on Ark-15. Gabby welcomes them to Trappist-1D saying “It took you long enough to get here”. Lt. Brice makes a comment that it took longer “Because we had to stop off for parts” since Evil Evelyn abandoned Ark-1. The others around them begin to act strangely. Kimi asks how Evil Evelyn died with Gabby repeating twice “Ms. Maddox died in a tragic accident” causing the other people in the cafeteria to become agitated. Rushing Lt. Brice, Kimi and Dr. Kabir, it becomes clear that something is seriously wrong with many of the inhabitants on Home Base One!

The Ark S2x12 The Governor says they are asking too many questions

We learn from the Governor when she is speaking to Captain Garnet that “1,256” Ark survivors made it safely to Home Base One. Captain Garnet is surprised that they could become self sufficient with so few people and asks if they are looking for the missing Ark’s?

Oddly, Governor “Ves”, the elected civilian Governor states they are not looking for other survivors but are instead focused on preparing the colony “for when they arrive”.  Governor Ves receives a message blithely stating to Garnet that her crew is asking “too many questions”. Sounds like trouble just up ahead!

The Ark S2x12 Evil Evelyn is injecting something into the woman who was banging her head into the wall

Things go from bad to worse as Ian is exploring the colony. In a corridor, Ian finds a woman who is literally banging her head into a wall repeating over and over “We are so fortunate… to be here”. The woman looks crazed as two members of the colony security forces arrive to take the woman into custody, dragging her off to a locked room where she continues to mumble “We are so Fortunate…!”

It is then we see that Evil Evelyn has not died, but is instead is witnessed injecting the head banging woman with something that calms her down. Then Ian finds Captain Garnet, Lt. Brice, Dr. Kabir, Felix, and Kimi on the shuttle heading to Ark-1 when all stating the same thing “We’re all so Fortunate to be here” and that “Felix’s daughter has been found” with Lt. Brice finishing his statement “The sooner we leave the sooner we can get back” (To Home Base One).

The Ark S2x12 A look of horror in Ian's face

With a look or horror on Ian’s face it is obvious that Home Base One is an Evil Evelyn brainwashing nightmare as Ian realizes that things have really gone off the rails! On arriving at Ark-1, Ian tries to inform Alicia and Dr. Marsh without success when he finds the source of the problem, a case of subdural devices that implant electronic chips to brainwash anyone. When Jelena Griff tries to help, she is injected as well.

Ian escapes to let Alicia know the crew are all being injected with a mind control chip developed by Evil Evelyn. Then Captain Garnet makes an announcement that everyone must report to the medical bay for a “vaccination” ending with “We’re all so Fortunate to be here” with a glazed look on her eyes confirming the brainwashing of the entire Ark-1 crew is well underway.

The Ark S2x12 Ian seeks out William Trust, Angus and Alicia
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

Alicia and Ian seek out William Trust and Angus who have not been injected yet with the brainwashing chip. William Trust confirms that he did develop the brainwashing implants but states “Leave it to Evelyn to perfect my most immoral technology”.

The good news is that Trust programmed in “kill codes” on how to override the brainwashing. Working as a team, Trust, Angus, Ian and Alicia set off to do so using Kelly’s nanites in her blood to send the brainwashing kill switch command.

The Ark S2x12 Ian and William Trust seek out Kelly to help

As a side note, it was nice to see that Kelly will be able to help save everyone on Ark-1! Unfortunately Angus and Alicia are captured and brainwashed when they go to the Ark-1 Medical Bay to obtain the device needed to remove a few nanites from Kelly.

Although Alicia and Angus are locked up, Alicia uses a fork to effect and escape from the lockup. One thing is certain, Ark-1 needs a real brig in a third season that no one can escape from!

The Ark S2x12 Kelly snaps Evil Evelyns neck

As the episode winds down, Trust, Ian and Kelly visit Captain Garnet with Kelly’s powers activated by Trust causing the entire crew to become deactivated from the brainwashing implants. Garnet heads to the planet to deactivate the remaining people on Home Base One.

In the process, we learn that Evil Evelyn steals the Ark-1 shuttle, kidnapping Felix’s daughter as a hostage. Fortunately, Kelly is still onboard the shuttle, quickly snapping Evelyn’s neck. Thank goodness we finally kill this evil woman. Kelly returns to the planet with Felix’s daughter.

The Ark S2x12 Captain Garnet addresses all the survivors

The final sequences find us with Captain Garnet addressing the colonists. She refuses to accept the nomination as leader of Home Base One, advising everyone that she is taking Ark-1 to find the missing Ark’s, nominating Felix to stay with his daughter as well as being the official representative in the new civilian government.

Doctors Marsh and Kabir decide to stay on the planet together and are observed kissing each other. William Trust also decides to stay on Home Base One. As Ark-1 prepares to leave the planet to search for the missing Ark’s, Alicia is promoted to Chief Science Officer. Ian will assume control of engineering.

The Ark S2x12 Angus finds an ancient stone tablet

The final scenes are with the crew saying goodbye to the everyone that will stay behind while the FTL drive is activated. An ominous contact is made with the other destination planet Ross 128-B warning Ark-1 “Do not come to Ross, turn around before it’s too late”.

Angus says he must stay on Home Base One to help the colonists grow enough food properly. While digging in the crop fields there, Angus finds evidence of an ancient civilization on a stone tablet with what look like Egyptian hieroglyphs that existed in the past on Home Base One.

The Ark S2x12 Looking to the future of a season three!
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

These developments eloquently set up The Ark for a third season with Alicia, Captain Garnet, Lt. Brice and Ian on the bridge looking out towards space towards their next destination.

Of course, including all admirers of this exciting superb science fiction series want a third season to happen!

In closing for now, we hope RenewTheArk becomes reality in 2025 and suggest everyone contact SYFY to express your support for season three. Thank you.

The Ark Review It Will Be Over Soon and There Could Be Much Sadness!

Welcome Science Fiction Lovers on The Ark!

    The Ark Season 2 poster

As season two of The Ark winds down, the episodes get better and better. All have become invested into the lives and challenges of the main characters Captain Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke), Lt. Spencer Lane and Ian the clone (Reece Ritchie), Lt. James Brice (Richard Fleeshman), Kelly Fowler (Samantha Glassner), Dr. Sanjivni Kabir (Shalini Peiris), Angus Medford (Ryan Adams), Alicia Nevins (Stacey Read), Eva Markovic (Tiana Upcheva), Security Chief Felix Strickland (Pavle Jerinic), Sasha Novak (Milos Cvetkovic), Jelena Griff (Tamara Radovanovic), William Trust (Paul Leonard Murray), Naomi Spencer (Jessica Yemi), Lati Meir (Coral Mizrachi), Kimi Joma (Díana Bermudez), Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich), Captain Zed Evega (Daniel Fathers), Stella Cogner (Jelena Moore), Maija Lync (Olivera Perunicic), Evil Evelyn Maddox (Jelena Stupljanin), as well as deceased members Cat Brandice (Christina Wolfe) and Helena Trust (Mercedes De La Cruz).

If the series does not survive past two seasons, we all hope the actors, writers, producers and series creator Dean Devlin, and Executive Producer Jonathan Glassner will go on to bigger and better things. But, to be honest, we would really rather that the series continue on one network or another, or maybe even on a streaming platform. It’s difficult to become invested in a show only to watch it die. It’s like reading only half a book. Come on SYFY, PLEASE RenewTheArk and make this happen for your loyal viewers!

    It Will Be Over Soon:

The Ark S2x11 Captain Sharon Garnet heading to Trappist-1D

The Ark has arrived in the Trappist System in an excellent episode written by India Sage Wilson and directed by Orsi Nagypal. Everyone on Ark-1 is excited to see where they hope to eventually live subsequent to their ordeals in deep space.

Planet Trappist-1D, according to Alicia Nevins is remarkably similar to Earth and should be able to sustain human life. This raises two questions for me.

    1. If it can sustain human life, shouldn’t there already be life there? If there is, wouldn’t we be repeating the same colonising screw ups of destroying the Indigenous people of old? No Prime Directive, then.
    2. One hundred years in the future, we have not given up our old ways of destroying our world. In time, won’t we just eradicate this new world? Or is that someone else’s problem?

The Ark S2x11 Captain Sharon Garnet calling Trappist-1D

After a small delay Garnet contacts the colony. It seems that the people on the planet are happy that the crew of Ark -1 have arrived safely.

They crew of Ark-1 are seemingly welcomed warmly. Is that a Red Flag? If things seem to be too good to be true, doesn’t that mean that they often are? Keep watching since bad stuff is about to happen!

The Ark S2x11 Kelly has a chat with Dr. Marsh
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY)

Kelly Fowler is having another chat with Dr. Marsh. She is intrigued, annoyed, disappointed and confused that he didn’t tell her that he was a Post Human. She demands an answer. Kelly definitely has an aggressive way about her. If she ever gets her freedom back, the rest of the crew won’t be lining up to be friends. Dr. Marsh tries to reassure her that she is awesome the way that she is. It’s not working. Kelly doesn’t buy it and feels like she’s being taken for a ride. I suspect that she will need to work on her people skills. It is interesting, to say the least, that when she was put on trial at the beginning of season two, she was ready to be tossed out of an airlock. How she has changed. Now she is trying to help people to make up for past misdeeds. Most definitely, a noble effort. It also seems that Dr. Marsh has altered the way he looks at things. He is spending a great deal of time talking to Kelly to try to convince her that she is needed. That she is worthy. The thing is, will the rest of the crew buy into it?

The Ark S2x11 Angus rushes to Alicia
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

Alicia Nevins arrives for an unexpected duty shift to replace Mr. Trust who is not feeling well. This is a regular occurrence, we learn. Things begin to go wonky. A coolant leak blows out a couple of pipes, spreading radiation and injuring both women. At first it seems like an accident. Fortunately, in Med Bay, Alicia is recovering and not as badly injured as Maija Lync, an Ark -15 passenger who has joined Ark -1.

Angus Medford hurries to Alicia’s side, relieved that she will be okay. Angus hasn’t gotten as much to do lately as the other characters on the series. After losing his position, during his earlier recovery, he didn’t know what to do with himself. Later, as boss of the Bio Farm he seems to not have very much to do and spends a large amount of time with Alicia.

The Ark S2x11 Felix gets a strange call
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

Meanwhile, Felix Strickland gets a very unusual voice message. He is told that he needs to sabotage part of the ship. His daughter’s life is at stake if he doesn’t do what he is told. Felix had earlier been told by Kelly that his daughter was dead along with his husband on the other Ark. Speaking with his daughter, Katheryn, he learns that it is really her. She knows the name of a book he used to read to her. Shocked, Felix is about to have an emotional moment. Change the capacitors or Katheryn will lose a finger. In Sub Engineering, Felix switches the capacitors. As he finishes, in bursts Ian. The man who seems to know where to be. Felix is, of course there on legitimate business. Ian is not sure he believes that. During a chat in Felix’s quarters, Felix tries to tell Garnet that he is being blackmailed. He can’t. The Evil voice knows everything.

The Ark S2x11 Dr Marsh visits Kelly again
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

Dr. Marsh, obviously not satisfied with his earlier chat with Kelly, visits her again. As usual she is about as pleasant as her mother, Maddox. Maybe that is where she gets it from. She is still angry that Marsh won’t let her use her nanites to help others on the ship. Marsh tells Kelly that he’s stopping her from using her nanites and other tech to protect her from other people who would take advantage of her. There is nothing worse than a gullible super-being. Kelly does recognise that Marsh could easily mean the cruelty of Kelly’s mother, whom she points out will be on the planet they are traveling to. Marsh reminds her that she had threatened to kill her mother the next time they met. Will she? We don’t know. She doesn’t know, herself.

The Ark S2x11Felix gets a visit from Sharon

“Not now, Ian!” The man deserves an award for lurking. He finds Garnet yet again. She’s somewhat miffed that he won’t let their favourite topic of conversation go. But, no, it’s not about that. Yet again, that is a topic for another time. Ian saw Felix where he was not supposed to be. Strickland was near the very system that later overloaded. Sadly, instead of listening to him, she shuts him down. She basically tells him to stop turning things into a ship wide soap opera. This really isn’t, As the Ark Turns. He needs to get back to work. For an Engineer, he never seems to be that busy. Will anyone listen to him? He’s definitely not someone who takes no for an answer. Well done, Ian.

The Ark S2x11 In the Ready Room
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

Garnet, Strickland, Eva, and Brice are in the Ready Room conversing about the apparent sabotage in Sub Engineering. Someone is trying to kill Maija and Alicia. Garnet believes that Maija may be someone they now have to worry about since she was part of Ark -15; someone they really don’t know. Strickland begins tapping his fingers lightly on the table. He has volunteered to accompany Trust on the Space Walk. At the direction of the Evil Voice he has to obey, Strickland directs everyone’s attention away from himself or Maija and toward Ian as the possible culprit of the sabotage. Garnet and Brice notice Strickland seems a bit distracted. The Evil Voice directs him to alter the data in the Air Lock so the ship thinks Trust and he are safely aboard once their work is done. Trust has to do the Spacewalk to repair the Dote (whatever that is) that had been sabotaged. Strickland offers to accompany Trust on the EVA. Strickland is a Security officer, so I’m wondering why he doesn’t have a suspicion about who is trying to kill who.

The Ark S2x11 Ian is lurking
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

Ian is lurking again. How does he know where each member of the crew is at any given moment? He asks Brice to hear him out about what he thinks is going on. He needs to tell someone who will believe him and then tell Garnet. They both head to the spot in Engineering where Ian spotted Strickland interfering with a component. To pass the time, Ian talks about his love of Jazz. Apparently, Spencer Lane hated Jazz. Lane’s explanation about Jazz was, “a group of people who couldn’t read music trying to guess which song to play.” Ian responds that although they looked the same they were two different people. He wished he had gotten to know Lane better. It has been made clear over the last two episodes that Lane was a very popular character. The crew, and especially Brice and Garnet miss him very much.

The Ark S2x11 Felix with Katana sword

Strickland finds Garnet after he was playing with his Katana sword in his quarters thinking about revenge for whoever has his daughter. Felix tells her that it is definitely Ian who is responsible for the sabotage. But there is more. The information the need for evidence is with Maija’s things in Med Bay, As he tells her this, he is tapping on his arm with his fingers. Garnet has finally gotten the message. She heads down to Med Bay and discovers that Maija was also being blackmailed. Garnet realises that Felix has a major blackmail problem. She calls everyone to the Ready Room, leaves a recording of her directions for the Senior Crew. They remove their communications devices and leave them on the table to meet together in what seems like a closet just off the Ready Room. They plan their next moves. Felix explains that he found out his daughter was alive and being used against him. It’s great that those in attendance: Brice, Garnet, Ian, Felix and Eva, were able to pull off the mental and technological gymnastics required to fool the Evil Voice blackmailer. The group figures out that Evil Voice wants to kill Trust. At this point, since he joined the crew of Ark -1, who hasn’t wanted to kill Trust? Garnet tells them that she has a plan, but they can’t tell Trust.

The Ark S2x11 Preparing for space walk
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

According to Evil Voice, Strickland now knows too much. They want him dead as well. It’s a simple choice for Strickland, either he dies or his daughter does. Trust and Strickland prepare to Space Walk. Strickland has tampered with Trusts helmet so he can’t demand help. They exit into space. Trust completes the work. As soon as he does it, Strickland severs his tether. then he removes his own. Strickland sends Trust floating off then follows him, Ark-1 moves forward,

As it does, Trust screams. So, it’s true. In space, no one can hear you scream. Once safe on EF-2, assisting in their sneaky sabotage of Evil Voice and his nefarious schemes Strickland requests that he be able to track down whoever is responsible for taking his daughter and blackmailing him. Watch out, Evil Voice, don’t mess with an angry dad.

The Ark S2x11 Will Ark-1 finding happiness
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings courtesy SYFY

There is only one episode left. It is named “Fortunate” Will the crew be fortunate and live happily ever after on Trappist-1D? If the series were to continue and we all hope it will, living on a planet would require a name change for the series.

It would be more likely that Ark -1 would have to leave for a good reason and continue to wander in Space with or without the Eastern Federation ship. We hope that this series gets another chance for a third season and is resurrected just as the survivors of Earth were when they boarded The Ark!

The Ark Analysis – It Should Have Been You – But It Isn’t!

Welcome Science Fiction Lovers on The Ark!

    The Ark Season 2 poster
    Images courtesy SYFY

There is no doubt Arksters and Arkoholics that The Ark is the finest scripted science fiction series currently being broadcast in the United States, Canada, as well as around the world on streaming services including Electric Entertainment’s cool Electric Now App. We hope that The Ark is renewed for a third season shortly after the conclusion of the current season. In that spirit, we will be using the hashtag #RenewTheArk on all on posts on X and Facebook renewal status is known.

Our heroes have faced devastating circumstances since leaving Earth to find a new home for humanity among the stars. The loss of crew members including Lt. Spencer Lane (Reece Ritchie) was heartbreaking. Lane died a hero in the last exciting episode “Cycle of Violence” saving Ark-1 from war in deep space.

Ark-1 plans to continue to planet Trappist-1D after making peace with the Eastern Federation ship EF-2 to rejoin the other Ark’s at the colony that is being built there.

The Ark S2x10 The crew has a heavy heart over the loss of Spencer Lane
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

Captain Sharon Garnet’s (Christie Burke) heart as well as the entire crew is heavy with the loss of her close confidant Spencer Lane that many hoped would become lovers. A bright spot in the ongoing scripted science fiction story saga is that Eva Markovic (Tiana Upcheva) returned to good graces on Ark-1 when she played a critical role that helped avert war between the GSA and the Eastern Federation. Eva is restored to her position of Engineering Chief, recognized as a trustworthy individual subsequent to peace talks onboard Ark-1.

With only two more episodes left in season two of The Ark, a pivot point in the series has been reached. Raw emotions are expressed by the entire crew over their loss of Lt. Spencer Lane, especially Captain Sharon Garnet as we learn at the end of the episode.

    It Should Have Been You:

The Ark S2x10 Captains Garnet and Avega speak at Lt Lanes eulogy
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

The episode opens with Captain Garnet stating “We are entering a new era of peace, an era of hope and change, but sometimes at a cost” as she speaks at the eulogy of Lt. Spencer Lane who is given a space burial with full honors with the majority of the crew in attendance.

Captain Avega (Daniel Fathers) of the EF-2 stands with Garnet during the speech with the help of a cane after his near death experience. in an episode written by  Madeline Hendricks Lewen, directed by Sandra Mitrovic, the two captains emotions are genuinely expressed by both as they share memories of deceased Lt. Lane. As they prepare for the journey to Trappist-1D, the two shake their hands in a bond of peace paid for with the blood of Lt. Lane.

The Ark S2x10 Alicia and Angus are also sad for Captain Garnet's loss of Lt. Lane
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

As the burial ceremony breaks up, the scene shift to Angus Medford (Ryan Adams) and Alicia Nevins (Stacey Read). They are discussing the emotional loss that everyone is feeling.

Angus states “I can’t imagine what Garnet must be feeling right now” with Alicia responding “It makes you want to live in the moment and not waste any time”. Both agree to meet in their cabin quarters after their work shifts to take advantage of each other!

The Ark S2x10 In the Command Council preparing to toast Lt. Spencer Lane
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

Next we are in the Command Center briefing room with Garnet, Eva, Alicia, Security Chief Felix Strickland (Pavle Jerinic), Dr. Sanjivni Kabir (Shalini Peiris), Lt. James Brice (Richard Fleeshman), and Kimi Joma (Díana Bermudez).

Dr Kabir says “I can’t believe that he’s gone” referring to Lt. Lane who was respected by everyone on Ark-1. As they stare at the empty chair of Lt. Spencer Lane, it is tragically clear that the emotional impact of his loss is only now hitting everyone.

The Ark S2x10 A toast to Lt Spencer Lane

A toast is offered as the Command Team prepares to move on without Lane. Lt. Brice is promoted to Second in Command stating “that’s what that wee bastard would’ve wanted anyway”.

Subsequent to the toast to their deceased crew mate, Captain Garnet informs the team that they will leave for Trappist-1D “within the hour” with EF-2.

The Ark S2x10 Dr Marsh meets Ian and Sharon in the hallway to discuss Dr Kabir

Ian the clone (Reece Ricthie) confronts Captain Sharon Garnet in the hallway begging for a title and an assigned position. Sharon agrees but tells Ian to talk with Lt. Brice since he is now in charge of assignments on Ark-1.

Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich) breaks up the tension between Sharon and Ian by arriving in the hallway wanting to speak about Dr. Kabir who Marsh says is blaming herself for Spencer Lanes death. Dr Marsh asks if Kabir “could take a few days off?” Dr. Kabir will not get the chance to take time off with what is about to happen!

The Ark S2x10 William Trust argues he will not take orders from Eva

Just then, Captain Garnet is called to Engineering by Sasha Novak (Milos Cvetkovic) where an argument is in progress. The argument was of course started by William Trust (Paul Leonard Murray) whose ego is bloated, to say the least. Trust refuses to take orders from Eva who has been reinstated as the Chief Engineering Officer on Ark-1. Suffice it to say, William Trust is a PITA (Pain In The Arse). Garnet makes it clear that Eva is in charge so he is a subordinate assistant to Eva. Trust’s ego tantrum reaches the point where he says “I don’t assist” and storms out of Engineering.

The Ark S2x10 EF-2 enters FTL but not Ark-1

Captain Avega calls to advise Ark-1 they are ready to depart for Trappist-1D. Captain Garnet confirms they will enter FTL together for their journey. Suddenly, the FTL Drive on Ark-1 fails as the EF-2 is observed leaving the area. As they are investigating, Ian, Dr. Marsh, Ian and Captain Garnet are struck by an energy surge that emanates from the FTL Drive equipment hitting Marsh first but bouncing to Ian and Garnet.

Dang it! Just when we thought that everything would be fine, all three are knocked unconscious on the floor!

The Ark S2x10 Eva Sasha and Brice learn the FTL surged cause unconsciousness of Ian Sharon and Marsh

The three are taken to the Medical Bay with Jelena Griff (Tamara Radovanović) helping Dr. Kabir who says “They’re all unconscious, I’ll know more soon” if they will survive. Lt. Brice arrives in Engineering as he looks on in astonishment realizing that he is now in command of Ark-1 as acting Captain. Brice orders Eva to figure out what has happened with the FTL, then heads to the Medical Bay where Dr. Kabir says it’s “too early to tell” if she can help them. Brice asks if she can do the job with Kabir snapping back “Being that I am the only conscious doctor aboard this ship, we don’t have much choice!”

The Ark S2x10 Angus and Alicia in bed after the first time having sex

In a lightening of the mood in the episode, we segue to Angus and Alicia who have just made love, or tried to, apparently for the first time. Alicia says “that was fun” while Angus says “was it?”. The two geeks look a bit uncomfortable laying side by side in bed. Alicia follows up with “the first time is tricky”. Angus blames himself. Alicia breaks the ice like tension by heading to Engineering to help Eva. Later, Angus asks Lt. Brice for a few pointers (pun intended) telling Eva he learned a “few things” from Brice. Alicia says “what kind of things”. Viewers will never know because they close the door to have intimate relations hiding what was said!

The Ark S2x10 Ian Sharon and Marsh have dinner until Marsh disappears
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

Next we are with Captain Garnet, Dr. Marsh and Ian who wake up in the Medical Bay but no one is there! All three do not remember anything after the order to take Ark-1 into FTL. They search the ship but nobody is responding. Ian, an engineer, informs Garnet an FTL power surge triggered what happened.

Garnet, Marsh and Ian seemingly shift time to months later. The three are in some sort of limbo, that we learn is an induced coma connecting them. As they meet for dinner, a surge of energy strikes Dr. Marsh when he is picking up a plate. Marsh suddenly wakes up in the Medical Bay with Dr. Kabir informing him that he has only been unconscious for “about an hour twenty minutes” confirming that they were in some sort of perception altering dream. Unfortunately, Garnet and Ian still trapped in the coma in an unconscious state.

The Ark S2x10 Dr Marsh admits he was experimented on by Evil Evelyn Maddox

Acting Captain Brice notices that Dr Marsh several has scars on his back. Marsh reluctantly admits that he was an experimental human subject of Evelyn Maddox (Jelena Stupljanin) before she experimented on poor Kelly Fowler (Samantha Glassner). Will we ever be rid of the crimes of Evil Evelyn? Doesn’t look like it Asksters!

We then learn that Dr. Marsh’s last implant is malfunctioning requiring brain surgery that Dr. Kabir says she is not qualified to remove! Thankfully the surgery is a success and Marsh returns to consciousness.

The Ark S2x10 Bearded Ian and Sharon after years pass in the coma

We are back with Sharon and Ian who now has a beard in the time shifted coma with each thinking that many years have passed. On what is apparently the Ark-1 Bridge, Ian says that the only way back is by going through a nearby wormhole, not aware they are really in a coma. During the intervening coma driven years, Ian and Sharon have fallen in love, kissing each other to express their feelings. Sharon says that Ian must shave his beard, however, it is at this point we are happy for Sharon and Ian who in all likelihood will have a stable relationship IF they can get back to a conscious state. In their coma induced state, they enter the wormhole but since it a coma induced fantasy, things do not return to normal.

The Ark S2x10 Jelena Griff proves Ian and Sharon are in a coma

Back in the Medical Bay, Jelena Griff studies their brainwaves with doctors Marsh and Kabir confirming that Ian and Sharon are indeed in a coma. The three notice that Ian and Sharon have matching brain wave patterns.

This proves that Ian and Sharon are still in a coma induced dream, not in another reality, they compare Dr. Marsh’s coma brainwaves that turn out to be an exact match!

The Ark S2x10 Ian and Sharon get married in the coma fantasy

In the coma induced fantasy world, Ian has shaved his beard and Sharon is in a white dress that could serve as a wedding gown since in their minds ten more years have passed and they get married in their coma. Next we see that Ian and Sharon have entered old age in the coma driven world. The aging aspect of the episode is a bit like the final episode of Stargate SG-1 episode “Unending” except in this episode it’s all a coma induced dream.

The Ark S2x10 Dr Kabir prepares to try and wake Sharon and Ian

In a quick scene switch, Dr. Kabir says that they are unable to stay in this state because their elevated brain patterns will soon kill Ian and Sharon. How can they get Ian and Sharon out of the nightmarish brainwave conditions?

Dr. Kabir develops a potion to inject into Ian and Sharon to try and snap them out of the coma before it is too late.

The injection only partially works with Ian and Sharon almost regaining consciousness in the Medical Bay. Instead they fall back into their coma where they decide they must somehow do something themselves to help resolve the situation.

The Ark S2x10 Kimi finds the implant chip used to control people in a coma

Seeking to help solve the coma enigma, Kimi finds a computer chip file developed by Maddox Industries that she shares with Felix Strickand.

Yep, you guessed it! Evil Evelyn is behind this nightmarish situation!

The research reveals that the symptoms Ian and Sharon are experiencing are part of an experimental mind control protocol implant developed by Evil Evelyn that was triggered when Ian, Sharon and Dr. Marsh’s implant were all struck with FTL Drive energy affecting all of them putting them in a mind control coma.

The Ark S2x10 William Trust is called upon to explain the mind control coma tech

William Trust is called to the Command Council to explain. While Dr. Marsh was freed from the coma when his implant was removed, Ian and Sharon don’t have implants, meaning they could remain trapped in the coma forever until it kills them!

Acting Captain Brice shares a story about Parkinson’s brain probe therapy that could be rigged to the implant ship removed from Dr. Marsh to hopefully wake Ian and Sharon from their comas.

The Ark S2x10 Aged Ian and Sharon decide they must kill themselves in the coma to wake up

Thankfully the procedure works with Sharon waking up in the Medical Bay momentarily. Marsh and Kabir theorize that they need to perform the procedure on both simultaneously. In the coma Ian and Sharon realize they have been living in a coma, but theorize that if they die in the coma, they’ll hopefully wake up in the Medical Bay. In the coma they go to an airlock and kill themselves.

The Ark S2x10 Sharon wakes up from the coma

Waking up in the Medical Bay at the same time the implant probes are activated, Ian and Sharon learn they have been in the coma dream for only “thirty-six hours” but they have experienced a lifetime of memories.

Sharon asks Ian if they cannot talk about it for the time being. Ian agrees to let it go for now.

The question we wonder about is did they develop a relationship in the coma that Captain Garnet and Ian will be able to enjoy later? We shall see.

The Ark S2x10 Eva and Alicia are stunned when William Trust shows up in Engineering

As the episode winds down to a conclusion, Brice confronts William Trust that his help is needed to finish repairs on the FTL Drive. Trust is at first recalcitrant but eventually agrees rather than be responsible for everyone being trapped in deep space.

In the last scenes, ego maniac William Trust does indeed decide to go to Engineering and help Alicia and Eva referring to himself as “an old asshole”. It is a nice touch that William Trust has finally become a functional member of the crew as a human being. Trust, Eva and Alicia fix the FTL Drive to return it to normal working order.

The Ark S2x10 Captain Garnet sobs when marking Lt Lane deceased

On the Ark-1 Bridge, Captain Garnet returns to duty thanking everyone, especially Lt. Brice for taking over during her absence. Captain Avega of EF-2 returned to check on the situation with Ark-1. For the first time in the series, nothing goes wrong and both ships enter FTL, finally headed to the Trappist-1D colony.

The final scene finds us with Sharon who is crying alone over the loss of Lt. Spencer Lane saying to herself “It Should Have Been You”, the title name of the episode. Sharon updates Spencer’s personnel file to “Deceased”. As the screen fades to black, we witness Sharon sobbing.

The eleventh episode next week is named “It Will Soon Be Over”. We certainly hope that it does not mean that the series will end with season two. We suggest everyone add #RenewTheArk to their social media posts to encourage SYFY to renew The Ark.

The Ark – Cycle of Violence A Never-Ending Human Problem!

    Welcome Back The Ark admirers,

    The Ark Season 2 poster
    Images courtesy SYFY

Science fiction has, in the past, been a perfect vehicle for educating viewers on moral issues. Those of us who find sci-fi movies and scripted science fiction series fascinating either see these morality episodes as useful, or as pandering. Maybe, science fiction is the new religious doctrine of our time? Thou shalt not kill each other to extinction.

Good science fiction is never about building utopias as much as about warning of the dystopias seeded in their attempt. Justice is of course, part of the moral equation with “honor”, “responsibility”, and “wisdom” being three other ingredients with other values that might be added to individual cognitive taste. “Freedom” is a value added element. At best it’s the freedom to choose futures wisely.

In this episode of The Ark, we learn that some of the survivors of an Earth that we ourselves destroyed, have apparently learned nothing. Captain Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke) is left to point out the follies of humanity with tragic results when a key member of the crew does not survive the encounter with the Eastern Federation.

    Cycle of Violence:

S2x08 An Eastern Federation ship locks weapons on Ark-1

In an episode written by James Delorean and directed by Hannah Espia we open where we left Ark-1 in We Don’t Kill Our Own when a new ship, the Eastern Federation EF-2 that appears next to Ark 1, is hell bent on getting their way. They want their shuttle and Bojan (Vas Batricevic), their soldier, back or there will be deadly consequences. Since Bojan is dead after he committed suicide in Museum of Death, Captain Garnet tries to explain that all she can do is give them back their shuttle. Eastern Federation Captain Zed Avega (Daniel Fathers) doesn’t believe Captain Garnet, demonstrating the hostility that the Eastern Federation seems to have toward the GSA. Garnet decides it’s time to flee sending Ark-1 into FTL without setting up a destination. This causes all kinds of problems. It’s going to take some time to sort them out says William Trust (Paul Leonard Murray).

The Ark S2x09 Eva is brought to the Bridge
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

Once safe in another region of space, they hope, the plan is to continue on their way. Garnet asks Security Chief Strickland (Pavle Jerinic) to bring Eva (Tiana Upcheva) to the Ready Room. After all that has transpired, Lt. Spencer Lane (Reece Ritchie) has taken it upon himself to blame Eva for their predicament. Spencer is convinced that Eva must have sent a message to Avega’s ship. Lt. James Brice (Richard Fleeshman) defends Eva. He’s a good boyfriend. Eva explains that she and her brother were stowaways on GSA ships because the Eastern Federation ships were taking too long to get space worthy. When charged by Lt Lane that they are law breakers, she states, “what kind of people send a new recruit on a suicide mission? Do you know what they were doing at the Lunar Colony? The GSA were developing a biological weapon to wipe out most of the world’s population.”

The Ark S2x09 Captain Garnet confronts Captain Avega
Image by Aleksandar Letic TV courtesy SYFY

Eva is taken back to her quarters. Lane, Garnet and Brice return to the Command Center for an update on their FTL Drive. Surprisingly, the EF-2 shows up almost immediately and fires on them with an EM (Electromagnetic Pulse) knocking out their FTL drive rendering them incapable of escaping. How did the EF-2 find them? Lane has an epiphany; the other ship was tracking their own shuttle. Captain Avega hails them. He now wants Eva to verify their story. Captain Garnet asks, “How do we know that you won’t destroy us?” Avega replies, “Despite what you have been told we are not cold blooded killers like the GSA. I have no desire to push the human race closer to extinction.” He then demands that Eva return with the shuttle or he will destroy Ark 1. Does anyone else have a problem with this? I don’t want to kill you, but I’ll kill you if you don’t give me what I want? It turns out that Eva doesn’t want to go over to the Eastern Federation ship. Garnet has given her the right to make her own decision. I think Avega respects that.

The Ark S2x09 Kelly isn't healing
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

Meanwhile, there are problems occurring with Kelly Fowler (Samantha Glassner). She is not recovering properly from her overuse of her implants during the It Can’t Be True episode when she saved members of Ark-1 from an evil plan of revenge by Lati (Coral Mizrachi) who manipulated Kelly’s enhanced abilities to try and kill Eva who Lati suspected was an Eastern Federation spy that caused the deaths of many GSA officers during the Lunar Colony incident revealed in previous episodes including Pretty Big Deal.

The Ark S2x09 Angus is hallucinating
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

Dr. Kabir (Shalini Peiris) and Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich) are worried Kelly may not survive. But that’s not all the two doctors need to be concerned about. The two doctors have developed a good working relationship, are unaware that poor Angus Medford (Ryan Adams) is having his own problems that are connected to Kelly’s Nanites.

Angus is hallucinating, seeing Kelly everywhere he goes on the Ark-1. I find it interesting that none of the crew bothers to let any Command people know that Angus is losing his mind, or at least seems to be the case.

The Ark S2x09 Angus returns the Nanites to Kelly
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

A quick message to Lt. Lane or Doctors Marsh and Kabir might have helped the situation. Eventually, Angus makes his way to the Medical Bay where he kisses Kelly by biting her, releasing the Nanites he has in his system back to her.

It turns out that this was all that was needed. Kelly regains consciousness and the doctors confirm that she starts to heal again. Would you be willing to accept Nanites into your body to keep you healthy?

The Ark S2x09 Lt Lane seeks out Ian the clone
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

Lt. Lane finds his clone Ian (a dual role by Reece Ritchie) reading a book. He seems not at all bothered that the ship outside the massive window in front of him is preparing to destroy them. The Ark’s impending doom is “just another Tuesday” to him, he says.

It’s at this point with Ian filling in the blanks, that Lt. Lane realises that the people he thought were his natural parents were connected to a specific cloning program. Spencer had been the one chosen to be the child they decided to raise as their own.

The Ark S2x09 Ian says there was evil in both the EF and the GSA
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

Later on when Garnet is asking Kimi (Díana Bermudez) about what she remembers about the Eastern Federation and GSA after Ark1 had left Earth, Ian approaches to tell her that there was “evil on both sides”. Ian gets volunteered to be the neutral mediator to try and settle the dispute between EF-2 and Ark-1.

I wonder if Reece Ritchie, the actor who got to play both Lt. Spencer Lane and Ian got paid twice for playing two characters? That would be fair, wouldn’t it? I bet that Reece would agree!

The Ark S2x07 William Trust reprograms the Wrist Device from Cat for Kelly

William Trust, who had been locked up until recently, is not happy that Alicia Nevins (Stacey Read), who he nick-named “Genius Girl” as he derisively calls her, has joined him in Engineering.

His ego still has Trust held hostage to his own delusions and he is not willing to give them up. Garnet has joined him and asks Trust if he can build that makeshift weapon he had suggested a while ago so they can defend themselves. Trust replies, “I thought you’d never ask.” Eva is brought back to the Command Center so that she can give Avega her decision. Eva says that she would rather stay on the Ark. Avega will not take no for an answer. There is a lot of hate toward the GSA, I think. So he orders his ship to fire. Garnet also orders Trust to fire. The Ark’s EMP knocks out the EF-2’s weapons. The benefit of an EMP weapon is that it doesn’t leave a mess like current weapons would.

The Ark S2x09 Ian is called to the Command Crew to negotiate with Captain Avega
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

Captain Avega, after some bluffing by Garnet, agrees to peace talks, but only if they agree to swap an equal number of crew to provide safety for both sides. If anything happens to Avega and his number one, their people will be killed. These people turn out to be Strickland and Jelena Griff (Tamara Radovanovic). Garnet, Brice, Lane, Alicia, Eva, Trust and Strickland meet again. They learn that the GSA planned to wipe out billions of people to save themselves; the rich and the powerful, of course. At that point, Lt. Lane discovers that his dad wasn’t the hero he thought he was. We learn that dear ole’ Dad was creating a bio-weapon to kill billions! That is a massive emotional blow for Lane. No one wants to hear that their father is a mass murderer.

With Captain Avega on board Ark-2, joined by his second in command, Lt. Ristic (Luka Jovanovic Dzivdzanovski), it is decided that Ian will act as the neutral mediator. The peace talks are not going well. After much arguing, they take a break. Captain Garnet asks Avega what he and his crew are planning to do in the long term.

Captain Avega knows about the planet called Trappist-1D where Ark-1 is headed to as well. He tells Captain Garnet they will be going there too. Garnet tells him that there are already GSA people there setting up a colony. Avega will have no choice, he says, other than to fight for what belongs to the Eastern Federation if forced.

The Ark S2x09 Lt Lane is shocked when Garnet says kill me first
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

Tragically, it looks like they will continue their war. So much for trying to avoid the extinction of humanity. Captain Avega gets ready to leave. As he does, Captain Garnet grabs his hands and puts them around her neck. “Start with me. Kill me.” she says shocking even Lt. Lane.

Garnet explains how the violence will escalate it they don’t come to an agreement. What is the solution then? The EF ship must disarm. “If we disarm, how do we know that the GSA won’t fire on us once we reach Trappist-1D?” asks Avega. Garnet suggests that they follow Ark 1 there. They can stay at a safe distance while she meets with the GSA leadership. Avega’s own Lieutenant Ristic disagrees with all of this. Rustic is not willing to take any path other than going to war, resorting to violence as we soon find out.

The Ark S2x09 Garnet is told that Lt Lane is mortally wounded by his liver can save Captain Avega
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

With negotiations over between Garnet and Avega, they begin walking back to the drop off point so they can return to their shuttle.

That’s when Lt. Ristic attacks his own Captain to stop any peace deal between the GSA and the Eastern Federation. Ristic is so obsessed over the situation that he shoves a blade deep into the back of Captain Avega.

Lt. Lane, who is standing nearby, leaps to Garnet’s and Avega’s defence.

Lane throws several defensive blows and overcomes Ristic but the “Cycle of Violence” ends with catastrophic results. Sadly, Lane has been mortally wounded.

Taken to the Ark-1 Medical Bay, doctors Kabir and Marsh confirm that the prognosis is not good. Both men are dying from internal injuries. To add to the trauma, Captain Garnet own hands are covered in blood, from trying to stop the bleeding of Lt. Lane whom she has become emotionally close. Viewers will recall that since both are clones forbidden a Juno Project match to procreate the human species, this drew them together.

The Ark S2x09 Lt Lnyc trusts Eva and decides to not kill the hostages

Captain Garnet then receives a communications hail from Lt. Maija Lync (Olivera Perunicic), the EF-2 ships Second in Command who is under orders to execute Strickland and Griff who are now hostages pending the return of Captain Avega.

Lt. Lync states clearly she is ready to have Strickland and Griff executed. Garnet manages to negotiate an hour’s reprieve and rushes off to the Medical Bay.

The Ark S2x09 Doctors Kabir and Marsh can only save Captain Avega
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV courtesy SYFY

Captain Garnet is desperate to save the two men. There must be a way she reasons. Garnet practically begs the two doctors. Ian, who has been nearby suggests that Lt. Lane’s liver be transferred to Avega to save his life. This will also avert further conflict between Ark-1 and EF-2.

The proposed medical procedure will save the EF captain Avega, but Lt. Lane will die in the process. Ian states that Lane was trying to save Avega’s life and this is what he would have wanted.

With the weight of the galaxy seemingly on Garnet’s shoulders, she agrees. Lt. Brice, meanwhile is trying to negotiate with Lt. Lync to save the lives of Strickland and Griff.

Luckily, Eva hurries into the Command Center room and talks to Lt. Lync. We then learn that they are old friends who explicitly trust each other. It is only this relationship between the two women that ultimately saves Strickland and Griff as well as averting the impending conflict should the hostages be killed.

The Ark S2x09 Ian and Sharon share their mutual loss

The final scene is with Captain Garnet who decides that she will go see dead Lt. Spencer Lane to say a final goodbye. His father may not have been a hero, but Lt. Spencer Lane certainly is.

Captain Garnet and Ian share a moment together to contemplate their devastating mutual loss.

The Ark We Don’t Kill Our Own or Will They Drink To It Anyway?

Welcome Science Fiction Lovers on The Ark!

    The Ark Season 2 poster
    Images courtesy SYFY

The exciting eighth episode of season two brings the Eastern Federation into focus subsequent to the revelations in last week’s episode “It Can’t Be True” when Eva Markovic (Tiana Upcheva) confessed to Captain Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke) that she was an Eastern Federation operative after being exposed by Kimi Joma (Díana Bermudez) and Lati Meir (Coral Mizrachi).

The Eastern Federation has been an enigma since it was first mentioned in detail in episode four “The Other You” when viewers learned that in an alternate version of reality that Lt. James Brice (Richard Fleeshman) was a hero who had saved countless lives when he rescued members of the Lunar Colony from a devastating attack.

In the Prime Reality where our The Ark story line takes place, Kimi and Lati also believe that Lt. Brice is an Eastern Federation operative that led to the deaths of many that they discussed over the course of the episodes since.

The Ark S2x07 Sharon vows to help Kelly

To make matters complicated, Lati became obsessed and attempted to assassinate Eva stealing and using the Wrist Control device of Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich) to activate the enhanced human implants installed in Kelly Fowler (Samantha Glassner) by her mother Evil Evelyn Maddox (Jelena Stupljanin). Fortunately, Captain Garnet was able to stop Lati, help Kelly and arrest Lati before Eva or Lt. Brice were further harmed.

In the episode we learn much more about what happened with the Eastern Federation attack on the Lunar Colony before Ark-1 left Earth. Moreover,  we also learn that Lt. Brice is implicated as well Eva is to be placed on trial by the Ark-1 Council after her stunning confession in the previous episode!

    We Don’t Kill Our Own:

    S2x08 Ark-1 in FTL bubble

The episode opens with a gorgeous visual effects shot of Ark-1 in a faster than light bubble heading to their destination of Trappist-1D to rejoin the remnants of humanity.

Our heroes hope to establish a second chance for humankind after they had destroyed the Earth from endless wars and ravaged the planet from the adverse effects of pollution.

S2x08 Kimi is questioned by Captain Garnet

Written by India Sage Wilson and directed by Marc Roskin, the opening scene is a shocker in the Ark-1 Council chamber where the ships officers are holding an official investigation.

Kimi is witnessed being questioned about her secret mission authorized by the GSA to track down and prove that Eva and Lt. Brice were at least in part responsible for one hundred eighty seven deaths that happened during the Lunar Colony attack.

S2x08 Captain Garnet chastises Kimi at the command council meeting

Captain Garnet chastises Kimi ordering that no further secret investigations will be tolerated on Ark-1.  Kimi agrees then presents digital photographic evidence that Lt. Brice, at that time a Captain, was somehow involved with the attack on the Lunar Colony when he piloted a ship that resulted in the deaths of many, including Kimi’s friend Marissa Yi.

S2x08 Lt Brice is cold cock punched ny Lt. Lane

Lt. Brice, who had previously denied to Kimi that he knew the woman, is now confronted with the evidence seen on a display tablet computer. Brice admits the incident occurred some seven years ago with the result that he was demoted from rank of Captain down two ranks to his current rank of Lieutenant.

Viewers will recall that Lt. Spencer Lane (Reece Ritchie) father was killed in the Lunar Colony attack. Lt. Lane loses control of himself, then immediately cold cock punches Lt. Brice in the face. Security Chief Felix Strickland (Pavle Jerinic) intercedes and holds Lt. Lane back.

The Ark S2x08 Lt Brice explains what happened at the Lunar Colony
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Lt. Brice then explains to everyone what actually transpired during the Lunar Colony attack. He was ordered on a secret suicide mission by the authorities assigning Marissa Yi as his co-pilot to fly a bomb into the middle of an Eastern Federation phalanx of attack craft and detonate it to stop the attack. This detail fills out the story arc in the alternate reality when Lt. Brice became a hero who was killed saving the Lunar Colony. In our reality, Lt. Brice disobeyed orders, instead shooting down many of the enemy spacecraft one by one.

S2x08 Felix asks what further actions against Lt Brice

The “Off Book” action by Lt. Brice resulted in his co-pilot being killed in the battle. The battle was classified by the authorities as top secret. With tears in his eyes, Lt. Brice admits to Lt. Lane, Kimi, Felix and Captain Garnet that he should have told them earlier. Felix asks what further, if any action is required against Lt. Brice? Lt. Lane demands that Brice be locked up. Captain Garnet informs the command team that she will not override the punishment assigned by the SGA authorities, causing Lt. Lane to state “Stay out of my sight” as he storms out of the Ark-1 Council chamber, effectively ending the friendship between the two for the time being.

S2x08 Milos prepares the drug to knock out the crew

In the meantime, we observe Milos Warren (Kieran Mortell) with one of his henchmen. Viewers will recall that Milos stole a jar of drugs in the previous episode.

Now Milos is seen by mixing the drugs with his henchman that they will use in the Ark-1 air handling system to knock out the crew in order to take over the ship. The immediate question is who is Milos working for? Is Milos really a spy for the Eastern Federation?

S2x08 Alicia asks Dr Kabir for a birth control injection

In a couple of lighter moments on Ark-1, we observe Alicia Nevins (Stacey Read) visiting Dr. Sanjivni Kabir (Shalini Peiris) in the Medical Bay for a “Birth Control Implant”.

Sanjivni giggles with glee that Alicia and Angus Medford (Ryan Adams) are finally now a couple and joyfully injects Alicia with the necessary implant!

The Ark S2x08 Felix and Angus toast with potato vodka!
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Next we are with Felix and Angus in the Bio Dome Shelter where they are looking for any further evidence that Lati, now locked up, had been growing any more harmful substances over and above the Ricin poison she used last episode in a failed attempt to kill Eva. Angus reports that the area is safe, adding that Lati did do at least one good thing; growing lots of potatoes to be used in an alcohol still to make potato vodka. The each two take a good swig with Felix saying it’s “good” as the two toast to the potato vodka!

The Ark S2x08 Sasha and Lt Brice are confronted by Milos
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

We move to the engineering sections where Lt. Brice is talking with Sasha Novak (Milos Cvetkovic) asking if he had any idea that Eva had been involved with the Eastern Federation. Before Sasha can answer, Milos and his gang storm the area, knocking out Brice and Sasha. We then witness Milos pouring the drugs into the air handling system.

Based on the drugs effectiveness in the air system it appears that everyone is  immediately knocked out. Captain Garnet, an enhanced clone herself, is able to activate Kelly before she passes out. Kelly recognizes something bad has happened since only Sharon, who promised to help Kelly, has access to the Wrist Device that freed her to investigate. The other two exceptions not affected are Felix and Angus, who unknown to Milos, has a separate air handling system, isolating the Bio Dome Shelter safely. Milos heads to the Ark-1 Bridge to take control, setting a new (unknown) destination.

The Ark S2x08 Kelly Alicia and Dr Kabir plan to retake Ark-1
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Kelly goes to the Medical Bay. Using a hypo-spray, Kelly is able to revive Dr, Kabir who identifies the powdered gas as “Dechra Flourine”, a powerful sedative that Milos aerosolized to knock out the crew. Dr. Kabir uses an injection to wake up Alicia so she can help figure out what to do next.

Alicia accesses the Ark-1 Bridge cameras to confirm it is Milos and a gang of Ark-8 clones who are behind the mutiny. Meanwhile Dr. Kabir wakens Dr. Marsh to help synthesize an antidote to wake the crew. Alicia and Kelly head to engineering waking Lt. Brice and Sasha who head to the shuttle bay with a plan of their own. Kelly and Alicia begin to override Milos computer lockout to be able to administer the antidote.

S2x08 Kelly protects Alicia by snapping the necks of Milos henchmen

Kelly runs interference for Alicia by “neutralizing” Milos henchmen. Kelly is highly effective in breaking the necks of many clones who had been protected from the knockout drug by air filtration masks. We note that there is no protection from Kelly!

Unfortunately, Kelly over utilized her implant enhancements, passing out as a result. Alicia tells Kelly “get some rest” while she succeeds in her efforts override the computers on Ark-1 that Milos took control of.

S2x08 Ian the clone is awakened by Milos

Milos wakes Ian the clone (Reece Ritchie in a dual role) telling him what the clones have accomplished to take over Ark-1. Ian seems a bit reluctant. However, Milos trusts Ian which may end up being a mistake at the end of the day.

Why do we come to this assessment? Ian has a look on his face of disagreement when Milos instructs his henchmen to go to the Bio Dome Shelter to kill Felix and Angus.

The Ark S2x08 Doctors Kabir and Marsh fabricate a compound to revive the crew
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

The henchmen report that Felix and Angus are no longer in the Bio Dome who have now extracted a mineral Dr. Kabir and Dr. Marsh needs to be able to fabricate a compound to be able to revive the enter crew using the same air handling system that Milos put the aerosol sedative into that knocked out Ark-1’s crew.

Nevertheless, Ian informs Milos that Captain Garnet’s command codes can be employed to countermand what Alicia has done to take back computer control.

The Ark S2x08 Captain Garnet locks down Ark-1
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Milos wakens Captain Garnet admitting that “We Don’t Kill Our Own” (meaning clones) and that he sabotaged the FTL drive on Ark-8 blowing up all the Gen3 clones to smithereens on the planet Raynick-J where Ark-8 crashed.

Malcontent Milos tells Captain Garnet when she refuses to give him the command codes that he will kill Lt. Lane who is still knocked out laying helplessly on the floor in her cabin. Sharon seemingly agrees but instead locks down every bulkhead and all connecting doors on Ark-1 causing Milos to lose his cool when Sharon compares him to the crazy Gen3 clones that Milos murdered on planet Raynick-J.

S2x08 Lt Brice and Sasha activate the shuttle to push Ark-1 off Milos course

The action then moves to Lt. Brice and Sasha who have successfully activated the shuttle still attached to Ark-1 to change it’s course away from the one set by Milos mutineers. Ian apparently shows his true colors threatening to kill Sharon for her actions but Is ordered “to stand down” by Milos. It was a ruse. When standing down as he was expected to be ordered to do, Ian slips a pocket knife to Sharon so that she can free herself.

S2x08 Kelly is unconscious after helping save our Ark-1 heroes

As the episode winds down, Doctors Kabir and Marsh have completed the compound needed to revive the crew with the mineral from Felix and Angus who were locked out. Alicia helps them administer the antidote.

Dr. Kabir heads with Felix and Angus off to help Kelly before she is killed because she used her implants for too long a period of time. Kelly is unconscious and it is not known if she will survive, but many admirers of Samantha Glassner including me hope that Kelly Fowler does survive to appear in future episodes of The Ark since she helped save everyone!

S2x08 Lt Brice goes to visit Eva who remains confined

As the antidote is delivered in the air control system completely revives the crew, Ian and Sharon team up to take down the misguided clones. Fortunately, Milos is killed in the melee. Lt. Brice goes to visit Eva who has yet to stand trial for being Eastern Alliance operative, James states I refuse to believe Eva “was evil”. In a second to last plot twist with Eva still locked up, William Trust (Paul Leonard Murray) is promoted to Chief of Engineering by Captain Garnet. Can William be “trusted” (pun intended).

The Ark S2x08 Our heroes toast with vodka to thie victory
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

The final scenes of this superb episode finds our stalwart heroes on the Ark-1 Bridge. They happily toasting their victory over the Ark-8 clones who mutinied with the vodka that was made from the extra potatoes grown in the Bio Dome Shelter.

Just when we think that all is well for our heroes, a look of shock appears on their faces as they are sipping the vodka while looking through the Ark-1 Bridge observation deck window.

S2x08 An Eastern Federation ship locks weapons on Ark-1

Suddenly outside, a huge Eastern Federation ship fills the window view plate! Instead of getting ready to head to Trappist-1D to rejoin the other Arks of humanity, things go from bad to worse. As the screen fades to black, the Eastern Federation ship locks it’s weapons directly on Ark-1!

Don’t miss The Ark next week in the new ninth episode of season two entitled “Cycle of Violence” that forces our heroes to deal with the aftermath of this episode when the Eastern Federation ship prepares to fire on Ark-1 and kill our heroes!

The Ark – It Can’t Be True But We Tragically Learn That It Is!

    Welcome Back The Ark fans,

    The Ark Season 2 poster
    Images courtesy SYFY

As we enter the second half of season two, this superb science fiction series pivots to focus more on the character development of each crew member. Added to these details, viewers experience budding romantic interactions between lovers relationships on the Ark-1 crew.

As the details of these relationships are revealed, the viewers are treated to a hopefulness that our heroes will be able to find happiness in the dangerous depths of deep space rather than constantly facing issues with their ship that was extensively damaged in the second season opener “Failed Experiment“.

In one case however, the potential for heartbreak is exposed to the viewers of this episode of The Ark near the end of this exciting episode that motivated this reviewer to pen the title of this analysis as “It Can’t Be True But We Tragically Learn That It Is”.

The Ark S2x07 Kelly is loose

Fortunately in “It Can’t Be True” the inhabitants of Ark-1 experience no further deaths despite an obsessed person who we learn is manipulating the implants of Kelly Fowler (Samantha Glassner) for their own questionable motives to kill a valued member of the ship. This person creates chaos on Ark-1 until the suspect is identified and Kelly is no longer their puppet in an attempted murder of a beloved crew person.

Several suspects, including prime crew members are investigated. Late in the exciting episode the actual villain is identified surprising this reviewer as well as viewers of The Ark.

The Ark S2x04 Christie Burke as Captain Sharon Garnet
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Along the way we learn about another individual whose secrets are not only exposed, but the person identified, when confronted, freely admits they were involved with the Eastern Federation. Obviously motivated by her guilt, there appears to be a sincere need to admit to Captain Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke) about the details of her past life that she attempted to conceal up to and including the previous episode “Pretty Big Deal”.

Before beginning our analysis, we remind admirers of The Ark that it is last remaining scripted science fiction Space Opera series on a major networked owned television station. As such, if viewers want to see a third season, be certain to tune in live each Wednesday, turn on your DVR’s to increase ratings, and thank SYFY for broadcasting The Ark.

    It Can’t Be True:

The Ark S2x06 Huge explosion on the surface of the planet

The seventh episode of The Ark was written by Madeline Hendricks Lewen and directed by Milena Grujic. The episode opens with Captain Garnet investigating the explosion of the Ark-8 FTL drive on the surface of planet Raynick-J where they had been subsequent to receiving a distress signal that pinpointed Ark-8’s location.

The Ark S2x07 Captain Garnet convenes a council meeting
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Ark-1 learned in the previous episode that the crew of Ark-8 was made up of clones who had commandeered the ship on Earth in the future to escape our doomed planet. Sadly, only one clone named Ian, a clone of Lt. Spencer Lane (Reece Ritchie in a dual role) apparently survived the catastrophe on planet Raynick-J.

Captain Garnet calls for a Council meeting to begin the investigation of the Ark-8 FTL explosion. In attendance are Captain Garnet, Lt. Spencer Lane, Lt. James Brice (Richard Fleeshman), Alicia Nevins (Stacey Read), Eva Markovic (Tiana Upcheva), and security Chief Felix Strickland (Pavle Jerinic) as they seek to identify who onboard Ark-1 was involved. Alicia Nevins states that she conducted an analysis of the event on Raynick-J confirming that the FTL drive exploded. However, Engineer Eva states that an FTL cannot explode on it’s own accord, indicating that it must have been a deliberate act in order to hide any traces of what happened on the planet. At this juncture we are left to wonder who could have been so callous and for what reason(s)?

The Ark S2x07 Eva and Kimi find an Ark-8 transmitter

Eva goes on to share that a signal was sent from the observation deck by someone on Ark-1 just prior to the explosion proving that someone on Ark-1 caused the death of all remaining clones on the planet. Captain Garnet orders a search for clues on the observation deck.

Kimi Joma (Díana Bermudez) joins Felix the hunt for the perpetrator on the observation deck. Eva and Kimi work together and find an Ark-8 device hidden under a stairway that had been reconfigured to transmit long range signals that set off the sabotaged FTL explosion.

The Ark S2x07 Ian the clone is suspected
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Suspicion immediately falls on Ian the clone who is the only person with engineering knowledge of devices on Ark-8. Lt. Lane and Felix confront Ian who denies any involvement claiming he is innocent and someone else must had done it. Ian is locked up pending further investigation.

Captain Sharon Garnet seeks out Lt. Spencer Lane to discuss the situation bringing along the Juno Project Tablet that contains the pairings of humans that are projected to procreate our species on their journey to save humanity.

The Ark S2x07 Sharon and Spencer share they are not paired clones
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

During their time together, we learn that Sharon was never paired with anyone because she too is a clone and that since William Trust (Paul Leonard Murray) wouldn’t allow clones to breed out of fear they would create defective babies, so she has no one to pair with.

Spencer states that his paired match was killed in her cryogenic pod, and since he is a clone as well they are both “available”. This interpersonal interaction with both smiling reinforces the process of bonding viewers have has been observed between these two individuals leading this reviewer to conclude that romance between Sharon and Spencer is highly likely.

The Ark S2x07 Eva and James share a vodka
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

The scene shifts to Eva and Lt. James Brice. James had Alicia unlock her cabin room door so he could bring a large number candles there so she could meditate.

Viewers will recall that their relationship which included intimate contact hit a snag when Eva began to be less than truthful about criminal activity file that she deleted from the ships computer that Kimi and Lati Meir (Coral Mizrachi) were certain that Eva has been helping James hide his association with the Eastern Federation. Eva and James share some of Lati’s vodka that she grew in Angus Medford (Ryan Adams) Bio Dome Shelter. Later we will learn that is not all Lati grew there!

The Ark S2x07 William Trust reprograms the Wrist Device from Cat for Kelly

We segue to Kelly and William who are locked up per Captain Garnet’s orders. William says he has been able to activate the Wrist Device that Kelly received from Alt Cat Brandice (Christina Wolfe) who gave it to Kelly when Alt Cat was visiting Ark-1 from the other reality in “The Other You”. Suddenly Kelly activates and breaks out of her cell. Viewers are led to believe that it is William Trust who is involved when Kelly attacks by strangling Eva in her room.

This will prove to not be the case when the investigation confirms that William Trust did not activate Kelly’s implants, but in fact deactivated Kelly, stopping her from strangling Eva to death. Captain Garnet interrogates Kelly and William Trust who is asked how he got out of his cell. Trust admits that he can override the locking controls since he built the ship. Kelly and William also admit that Alt Cat gave the Wrist Device to Kelly and that William only used it to stop Kelly from killing Eva.

The Ark S2x07 Milos steals drugs after he is helped by Dr Kabir
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Suspicion then shifts to Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich), who does know how to control Kelly’s implants. When Dr. Marsh’s Wrist Device is examined, Captain Garnet and Dr. Sanjivni Kabir (Shalini Peiris) find that the software used to control Kelly has apparently been erased or the Wrist Device was switched.

This development further confounding the search for the culprit(s). As they leave the Medical Bay, another character named Milos Warren (Kieran Mortell) who Dr. Kabir was helping, can be observed taking drugs that will likely figure prominently in the next episode.

The Ark S2x07 Angus and Alicia ready to consumate their relationship

The investigation takes a break when Angus and Alicia prepare consummate their relationship after being caught hugging and kissing in the Bio Dome Shelter by Lati who the tells Angus she is happy that he finally got the “balls to kiss her”.

Lati also tells them to “get a room”, which they do!

Unfortunately Angus gets nervous and throws up before they can complete the act!

The Ark S2x07 Dr Marsh makes a pass at Dr Kabir
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Lt. Spencer Lane then goes to visit Ian the clone to tell him he is no longer a suspect. While they discuss this, Ian informs Spencer that most of the other clones where only created for organ harvesting and that both were disposed of after they served their purpose. Meanwhile, in the Medical Bay, Felix and Captain Garnet confront Dr. Marsh accusing him of controlling Kelly to kill Eva. When his Wrist Device is inspected, they learn that Dr. Marsh no longer has the software on the device to control Kelly’s implants further clouding the investigation. So who has the actual Wrist Device that controlled Kelly? Shortly thereafter, Dr. Marsh makes a pass at Dr. Sanjivni Kabir which she rejects since she is not attracted to Dr. Marsh. Sanjivni does however share that Jelena Griff (Tamara Radovanović) is attracted to him. Dr. Marsh and Jelena later share their feelings with each other thanks to Dr. Kabir playing matchmaker for this new romantic pairing on Ark-1.

The Ark S2x07 Kimi confirms to Felix and Captain Garnet she was working with Lati
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Without Angus’ knowledge, Lati is confirmed to have grown the castor beans in the Bio Dome Shelter that poisoned Eva who is found nearly dead. The episode winds down when Captain Garnet and Felix discovers that Kimi have been part of an official investigation that suspected Lt. Brice and Eva were part of the Eastern Federation. Kimi admits she was working with Lati who must have gone “Off book” to try and kill Eva .

Lati uses the Wrist Device she swapped with Dr. Marsh to control Kelly to break out of her cell and head to the shuttle bay dragging Alicia down the hallway. When Lati is confronted, she tells them that killing Eva and any other Eastern Federation is the only form justice remaining in deep space. Lati tries to escape by demanding a shuttle with supplies or she will use the Wrist Device forcing Kelly to break Alicia’s neck.

Captain Garnet is able to break through to Kelly despite Lati’s control. Thankfully, Kelly doesn’t kill Alicia. Lati is captured with Captain Garnet later found talking with Kelly about helping her overcome her implants by taking the Wrist Device from Dr. Marsh and working with Kelly to use Alt Cat’s Wrist Device to help her.

In an ironic twist, Lati is placed in the cell that was formerly occupied by William Trust who Captain Garnet has removed from custody. We witness Kelly peaking through the wall at a terrified Lati!

Another potential romantic pairing of the episode that occurs when Felix finds Dr. Kabir punching a boxers bag to reduce the pressure she has felt with the events of the recent past including running from her ex husband.

Instead of taking drugs that she became addicted to in season one, Felix helps her by holding the boxers punching bag so Sanjivni can drain the stress from her psyche as well as offering her technique’s he used when he was bullied. Will these two become a match? We shall see!

The Ark S2x07 James is in tears after learning Eva was involved with the Eastern Federation

The final scenes find us with Eva being questioned by Lt. Lane and Captain Garnet about Kimi accusing Eva of being an Eastern Federation operative.

Eva tells them the truth, that she was part of the Eastern Federation but that she has changed. While being taken to her room by Felix to be confined, a tearful James Brice begs Eva to say it is not the truth, which it tragically is.

The Ark Analysis Pretty Big Deal – Kelly Is Saved But What About The Wrath of the Clones?

    Welcome Back The Ark fans,

    The Ark Season 2 poster
    Images courtesy SYFY

The sixth episode completes the first half of The Ark season two establishing the adventures viewers will be looking forward to in the second half of the season.

Viewers have witnessed wonderful writing of superb stories in the first five episodes. Beginning with “Failed Experiment” the crew decides the best way forward after a number of Ark-15 crew members decide to join Ark-1.

The first episode effectively sets up “Kill of Be Killed”, when Ark-15’s new crew members present questions of who can be trusted and what Ark-1 should do with them.

This leads to  episode three “Anomaly” when a deep space electrical creature nearly destroys Ark-1’s electrical system as they are traveling to Ark-3 to salvage desperately needed parts for Ark-1 to be able to make the journey to a planet where they can reestablish humanity.

Star Trek II The Wrath Of Khan poster

Upon arrival at Ark-3 in episode four “The Other You” finds our heroes quantum entangled with an alternate version of Ark-1 trapping them in a deep space void with two characters swapping universes until our heroes in both realities figure out how to escape.

In episode five, “Museum of Death”, the viewers learn secrets about several crew members that eloquently sets up episode six “Really Big Deal” when the crew of Ark-1 receives a distress call from Ark-8 that crash landed on a planet that was discovered a year after Ark-1 left Earth.

The scenario and costumes on the planet are similar to a desolate planet in Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan in that the Ark-8 crash survivor’s are motivated by obsessive compulsive emotions that Khan (Ricardo Montaban) exhibited towards Captain Kirk (William Shatner) during the classic 1982 science fiction film that saved the Star Trek franchise.

What our Ark-1 heroes learn is nonetheless shocking when it is revealed that advanced technologies are part of the Ark-8 survivors on a planet named “Raynick-J” that was discovered a year after Ark-1 left Earth. What our heroes experience is a turn of events that may adversely affect their journey to join the other Arks headed towards Trappist-1D!

    Really Big Deal:

The Ark S2x06 Eastern Federation shuttle from Ark-3 towing parts to Ark-1

This exquisite episode was written by John-Paul Nickel and directed by Milan Konjevic focuses on several story arcs that have been percolating over the first five episodes of season two. “Really Big Deal” begins with Captain Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke) directing Eva Markovic (Tiana Upcheva) to complete retrieving parts needed from Ark-3 including Lt. James Brice (Richard Fleeshman) piloting an Eastern Federation shuttle from Ark-3 to dock with Ark-1.

Captain Garnet directs Security Chief Felix Strickland (Pavle Jerinic) to inspect the cargo and spare parts taken from Ark-3 while Alicia Nevins (Stacey Read) notes that the nose of the ship still says Ark-3 after it replaced the damaged section of Ark-1 during the previous episode. Captain Garnet tells Alicia not to worry since Lt. Spencer Lane (Reece Ritchie) is taking care of that detail as they speak, rebranding the Ark-3 nosecone to reflect that it is now part of Ark-1. The bridge crew claps in unison when the cargo, shuttle and rebranding are complete.

The Ark S2x06 The crew open the container from Earth

We move to the Ark-1 cargo areas where the crew, including Kimi Joma (Díana Bermudez) from Ark-15, Felix’s new security adjutant, as well as Alicia, Spencer, and Sharon open a time capsule like box recovered from Ark-3.

The crew are pleasantly surprised when they discover that it contains beloved memorabilia from Earth including a guitar, baseball equipment, children’s toys, yarn and knitting needles and other items that none of them thought they would ever see again.

The Ark S2x06 Captain Garnet invites Dr Marsh to an Ark-1 meeting
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Captain Garnet informs the Ark-1 Council that the newly attached Ark-3 nosecone has new private rooms for each of them when she calls for a staff meeting that includes Dr. Sanjivni Kabir (Shalini Peiris), Eva, Felix, Kimi Alicia, Lt Brice and Lt Lane.

Captain Garnet also invited Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich) who joined Ark-1 from Ark-15 to discuss a pressing problem; Kelly Fowler (Samantha Glassner) who has been found to have explosives placed in the skull of her enhanced body by evil Evelyn Maddox (Jelena Stupljanin).

The Ark S2x06 Dr Marsh tells Kelly the truth about her implants
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Dr Kabir and Dr Marsh with help from Jelena Griff (Tamara Radovanovic) share they plan to deactivate the explosive gel implanted in Kelly’s skull and plan to surgically remove the explosives but it’s a “Pretty Big Deal” so that Kelly will no longer be a threat to herself or others should Evil Evelyn go back on her word that included not activating the human bomb that Kelly.

However, we are left to wonder if Kelly and William Trust (Paul Leonard Murray) who are both still locked up, has learned to control her implants using the alternate reality wrist device that Alt Cat (Christina Wolf) gave her during the fourth episode “The Other You”? We shall learn more about this factor near the end of this episode.

The Ark S2x06 Lati and Kimi discuss Brice as a suspected Eastern Federation spy

We then move to the Bio Dome Shelter where Lati Meir (Coral Mizrachi) and Kimi are chatting about their own agenda; finding out Lt. Brice’s secrets, and if he or Eva were in any way involved with the Eastern Federation.

Lati, who has been taking care of things in the Bio Dome Shelter while Angus Medford (Ryan Adams) was recovering from his injuries thanks to a blood transfusion from Kelly, says she “hopes they don’t lose the chief engineer (Eva)” if what they suspect is true.

The Ark S2x06 Angus and Alicia discuss the situation on the Ark-1 Bridge
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Just when viewers think that all is well with Ark-1, her crew, and the two locked up passengers, as they are about to enter FTL, Angus heads to the Bridge to chat with Alicia who informs him as she is checking communications logs from the Ark-3 computers that contain later information than Ark-1.

The Bridge crew discover that other Ark type ships may have saved more people from Earth. Unfortunately, Alicia reads communications documenting that the Eastern Federation ships are the only ones with weapons! Alicia and Angus hope the Eastern Federation are not headed to Trappist-1D!

The Ark S2x06 Drs Kabir and Marsh with Jelena Griff remove Kelly's explosive implant
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

We are then in the operating room where Dr. Marsh and Dr. Kabir with Jelena’s help are operating on Kelly to remove the explosive implants from her skull.

The procedure is a success with Kelly asking them to remove more of the artificial implants placed there by Evil Evelyn. Dr. Marsh informs Kelly that unlike the explosives the implants are integrated directly into her body and cannot be removed. This leaves Kelly to think about finding out how she can use the wrist device to control her implants.

The Ark S2x06 Captain Garnet orders a rescue mission
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Back on the Bridge, we learn that the planet Raynick-J, although with a breathable atmosphere, has high levels of radiation that will be fatal to humans if exposed for longer than a week. Alicia finds an FTL energy signature of the crashed Ark-8. Captain Garnet orders the now repaired Ark-1 to effect a rescue attempt using a shuttle to determine if there are any Ark-8 survivors.

Leading the mission are Captain Garnet that includes Dr. Kabir, Felix, Kimi, Lt. Brice and Lt. Lane. During the trip to land on the planet, Kimi questions Lt. Brice if he knew one of her friends named Maurisa Yi at the pilot GSA academy? Based on the Lt. Brice’s facial expressions the answer is an uncomfortable yes. However, Lt. Brice denies it, setting up a future part of the back story for the series

The Ark S2x06 Ark-8 crash survivors
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Once on Raynick-J, the rescue mission team confirms that the conditions are indeed bleak with parts of Ark-8 having broken up prior to landing. Now at the crash site location, a shuttle is observed near where our heroes do find survivors, but with a huge twist: They’re clones with one revealed to be a duplicate of Lt. Spencer Lane named Ian!

Referred to as Gen2 clones, they are apparently the last version of stable clones before humanity escape a doomed Earth. The Gen2 clone named Ian confronts Lt. Spencer Lane that he too is a clone since four were made of each person copied. Although Lt. Lane denies it, viewers will recall that Captain Garnet is one of the clones herself that designed to be able survive under the harsh environmental conditions on other planets and in space.

The Ark S2x06 Dr Kabir helps the injured Ark-8 survivors

Does this mean that there is another Captain Garnet? We shall see! Dr. Kabir tends to the injuries that some of the clones suffered when they crash landed, Kabir also relates that cloning was utilized by several corporate factions for their own purposes. The Gen2 clones worked with other abandoned clones to commander Ark-8 that had not been assigned a crew before it left planet Earth.

Later we also learn that other clones, referred to as Gen3’s, have been attacking the Gen2’s since the crash and have a tendency to become violent.

The Ark S2x06 Potatoes for Vodka

Viewers will recall that Angus has been acting a bit depressed lately.

This is because Angus no longer feels that he is needed in the Bio Dome Shelter since Lati has been doing an apparently fabulous job taking care of the Bio Dome Shelter.

In an enjoyable scene while the two are in the Bio Dome Shelter, Lati and Angus strike up a friendship after Angus learns that Lati had made some mistakes.

Lati says “That’s why we need you here”.

In a really fun bit of character interaction, Angus says that Lati has “planted too many potatoes”.

“Not if you want more Vodka” says Lati! “More Vodka?” retorts Angus as they take a few slugs of the alcohol while discussing the romantic pairings on Ark-1!

The Ark S2x06 Brice is saved by Lane as they fight off the Gen3 clones
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Back on the planet, the Gen3’s have an agenda of their own, to escape. It then it becomes obvious that the Gen3 clones plan to take control of the Ark-1 shuttle. Several of the Gen3’s attack the survivor’s encampment with two having sabotaging the shuttle and jumping Lt. Brice. Lt. Lane comes to the rescue and they are able to repair the damage caused by the crazed Gen3 clones.

Captain Garnet orders the evacuation of the planet indicating they will return to take the Gen3 clones into protective custody. Instead the Gen2’s and the rescue team are barely able to escape with Gen3 clones hanging off the shuttle.

    video

The Ark S2x06 Ian the Spencer Lane clone warns not to save the Gen3 clones

As the episode winds down, Ian the Spencer clone is observed having a meal with the command team warning Captain Garnet that the Gen3 clones cannot be trusted. Dr. Kabir says that it “could take months to implement, longer to perfect” a gene therapy to fix the Gen3 clones.

While Ian and Spencer are talking about what happened to each of them, Spencer still denies that he is a clone. Ian then shares that all clones have a tattoo on their left heel. We learn at the end of the episode that Spencer does not have a visible tattoo, but does have a scar where the tattoo would have been, indicating that his tattoo was surgically removed.

The Ark S2x06 Kimi shares with Lati that Brice did know Maurisa Yi

As the episode concludes, we learn four more story arc important details.

First, we learn that Maurisa Yi was Lt. Brice’s protégé at the SGA academy when Kimi shows Lati a picture of Yi and Brice together. Lati then ties this fact to her hypothesis that Eva, who destroyed her criminal records from Ark-3 in the previous episode, and Lt. Brice must be Eastern Federation spies! We also learn that Eva’s lover, an Eastern Federation Engineer, died mysteriously after coming out of cryogenic sleep on Ark-1 AND that Eva’s record is not only “spotless”, Eva was wearing a different uniform meaning that Kimi and Lati have confirmed that Eva scrubbed her records file!

The Ark S2x06 Kelly gives the hand device to William Trust

Second, we find Kelly talking through the damage hole in the cell walls with William Trust who asks her if she has was taught by Alt Cat how to use the wrist device to control her implants?

When Kelly admits that she doesn’t know how to do that, Trust offers to help. Naïve Kelly agrees. We think this could be a mistake on Kelly’s part with Trust either planning revenge against Kelly and/or the crew of Ark-1!

The Ark S2x06 Alicia wastes no time in kissing Angus

Third, Angus works up some courage and decides to go see Alicia with a flower he harvested with Lati’s help from the Bio Dome Shelter. Obviously nervous, Angus almost doesn’t knock on the door.

Alicia, sensing this is their moment, wastes absolutely no time giving Angus a big kiss officially confirming the two will become romantic lovers!

The Ark S2x06 Huge explosion on the surface of the planet

Fourth, after Felix prepares to bring the first batch of Gen3 clone survivors onboard Ark-1, any thoughts of returning to the planet to salvage FTL parts will be abandoned when an explosion is witnessed on the planet with Lt. Brice and Kimi in the shuttle heading back to the planet to rescue more Gen3’s. Did the Ark-8 FTL drive explode by itself on the surface of the Planet near the crash site? Or did some of the Gen3’s commit suicide to hide something from the crew of Ark-1?

The Ark Review Museum of Death or I See Dead People, Lots of Dead People!

    Welcome Back The Ark admirers,

    The Ark Season 2 poster
    Images courtesy SYFY

The fifth episode of season two, “Museum of Death” thankfully begins with no further deaths after Cat Brandice (Christina Wolfe) succumbed to injuries she suffered at the end of season one and revealed in the first episode of this season “Failed Experiment“. Although we saw an alternate reality version of Cat again in “The Other You“, Alt Cat returned to her universe reality at the end of that episode.

Fortunately all of the series main characters are okay including Captain Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke), Lt. Spencer Lane (Reece Ritchie), Lt. James Brice (Richard Fleeshman), Dr. Sanjivni Kabir (Shalini Peiris), Angus Medford (Ryan Adams) and Alicia Nevins (Stacey Read), Eva Markovic (Tiana Upcheva), Security Chief Felix Strickland (Pavle Jerinic), Sasha Novak (Milos Cvetkovic), William Trust (Paul Leonard Murray), Jelena Griff (Tamara Radovanovic), Naomi Spencer (Jessica Yemi) and Kelly Fowler (Samantha Glassner) who like William Trust have been locked up because of their past misdeeds that caused injury or death.

The Ark S2x05 Kimi is spying on Felix and Jelena
Diana Bermudez as Kimi, Tamara Radovanovic as Jelena Griff, Pavle Jerinic as Felix Strickland. Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

New Ark-1 new crew members include Kimi Joma (Díana Bermudez), Lati Meir (Coral Mizrachi), and Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich) are from Ark-15. Kimi, joined Felix and the Ark-1 the security team. Dr. Marsh is helping Dr. Kabir in the medical bay while she recovers from her injuries and Lati helps in Bio Dome engineering while Angus is recovering.

Mental illness is an issue that affects societies around our world today. This episode, written by India Sage Wilson and directed by Sandra Mitrovic, focuses on the serious issue of mental illness. In “Museum of Death”, the mental illness of an individual is a direct result of close interactions and the ever present life or death situation of a broken Ark. And, of course, dead people. Lots of dead people, Horrifically, all the deaths are found on Ark-3.

    Museum of Death:

The Ark S2x05 Ark-1 pulls up to Ark-3

Ark 1 finally comes along side Ark 3. The Ark-1 crew discovers that an Eastern Federation Shuttle has arrived before them. Now they have to contend with the fact that they might have to fight an enemy or find another way to get the equipment they need to save their own Ark.

It seems that William Trust and his people have done a pretty shoddy job of building a fleet of Ark vessels that are supposed to be used to save the human race.

The Ark S2x05 The council meets to decide a course of action
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

The council meet to decide how to proceed. Captain Garnet, as always, leads the discussion. Lt. James Brice and Felix Strickland both advise caution.

They seem to believe that going in guns blazing is the way to go. Only, these people don’t have guns. They have fancy tasers.

Further investigation uncovers that there appear to be a large group of people inhabiting Ark 3.

The Ark S2x05 Lts Spencer Lane and James Brice investigate
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

We discover that it is a still photo, so the information they get is limited. It is enough to know, however, that a diplomatic approach likely won’t cut it. Spencer Lane, when he discovers that the Eastern Federation is on board, decides that he must be part of the boarding party. He wants to get even for the loss of his father to the bad guys, a group we learned are called the Eastern Federation.

The thing is, we have no idea who the Eastern Federation are. Are they a group of countries made up of Russians and other eastern countries that have grown in power and influence? Are they the Chinese or even India? Like all the viewers, I am curious to find out.

The Ark S2x05 Dr Marsh tells Kelly she cannot control her own implants

Meanwhile, Kelly Fowler is getting checked out in Med Bay by Dr. Marsh. Dr. Kabir is attending. I think at least she is attending. Kelly begins grilling Marsh about all of her implants and why she doesn’t have control of them herself. You’d think this would be an easy answer, but Marsh is vague about why.

Kelly is not satisfied, decides she is being lied to and uses her powerful arm implants to shove Marsh up against a pillar with her hand around his neck. This alarms everyone present.

The Ark S2x05 Kelly threatens Dr March
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Kelly threatens to kill Marsh if she doesn’t get the answers she wants. Dr. Marsh explains that when she was given her implants she was just a child. Not anymore, Kelly argues. Not the way she is behaving. Dr. Kabir warns her that she could get thrown off the ship if she doesn’t behave. Honestly, after that performance, would anyone be willing to let her have control over her own implants? Marsh also tells her that it’s not possible for her to have control of her implants. If they shut down she could be damaged beyond repair. Kelly is obviously still not satisfied with the answer she was given as she is escorted back to her cell.

The Ark S2x05 Captain Lane discusses the situation with Lt Lane

Captain Garnet confers with Lt. Lane who is still troubled by the death of his father. The boss seems to spend a great deal of her time sympathizing with her crew and acting as councilor now that Cat is gone. Lane is missing his father more now that he has a glowing belief about the man, thanks to Brice. Lane needs something else to focus on. That won’t be Ark 3. Garnet is correct in her assessment that he would want revenge if he was permitted access to Ark 3. Not exactly the task at hand.

The Ark S2x05 Three teams will go to Ark-3
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

During another council meeting, they decide to take three teams to Ark 3, hopefully for diplomatic discussions, but they will fight if they have to.

The fact that the crew of Ark 1 have no real weapons may be the reason for the less than stellar reception of this series. Americans, who would be (are) the major viewers of this show, expect lots of violence in Space driven science fiction these days. Or, am I wrong?

The Ark S2x05 They find dead bodies in a frozen state
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Upon arrival on Ark 3, the teams, including Garnet and Eva, discover an abandoned ship.

The environmental system has been turned down to the point that, although they have air, the ship is like a giant freezer.

This becomes important later when the teams discover dead people all arranged like mannequins everywhere. The three teams on Ark 3 discover the gallery of dead people. Captain Garnet comments that this discovery is very creepy.

The Ark S2x05 Eva finds her brother Bojan
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

I am certain that everyone agrees with her. It becomes obvious that there is obviously someone on board who created these stationary dead folks.

Captain Garnet is the first one to come across this individual who is very much alive. It turns out that the stranger is Eva Markovic’s brother named Bojan (Vas Batricevic).

Although there is a happy reunion of Eva and Bojan, sadly, this happiness will not last long.

The Ark S2x05 Kelly probes William Trust for answers about her father
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Kelly, back in her cell, probes William Trust, in the next cell, for more information about her father. He decides to become forthcoming, telling her that her father was a good man and everything she thought she knew about him was wrong.

Kelly has learned that they moved form town to town so he could protect her from her crazy mother. Her dad didn’t have a heart attack. He was poisoned by her mother. This, she says, is not a surprise to her. All the bad things in her life were caused by her mom.

The Ark S2x05 Angus thinks he is no longer needed in the Bio Dome

As well, Angus, now healthy and back on his feet, has returned to the Bio Dome.

Angus wants to return to his old job, only to find out that everything is running quite smoothly without him.

The others don’t appear to need him anymore. This would be jarring to anyone who felt really needed until, suddenly, they weren’t. Despite Alicia Nevin’s reassurances that he is still very much needed, Angus continues to doubt it.

The Ark S2x05 Bojan is a few fries short of a happy meal
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

As the teams aboard Ark 3 get to know Eva’s brother, Bojan, they discover that he’s a little different. Not functioning in the normal range.

Or, with a bit of liberty, I could say that his elevator doesn’t go to the top floor, the candle is burning, but nobody’s home, Bojan is “three fries short of a happy meal…wacko”. From the perspective of psychology, Bojan would have to already have borderline psychological issues to fall so far into the deep end.

The Ark S2x05 Bojan plans to kill himself
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

Bojan ends up in Med Bay. Eva arrives to have a conversation with him. Everything seems okay until she accidentally presses the button that sets him off. In that state, he accuses her of being an Eastern Federation Spy. Dr. Marsh has to sedate him. As Eva’s drama continues, we discover that there is more going on. Obviously, she cares for her brother, especially when he escapes and takes an EVA outside the Ark, trying to get back to his own Ark. He chooses the worst time to do it, however. As Eva follows him out into space, the senior officers are trying to move the front section of Ark 3 onto the front section of Ark 1.

The visual effects are amazing as the effects of the front section of Ark 1 show small explosions with debris flying off in different directions. Then the explosions get bigger and bigger until one massive explosion takes out the entire front to the ship.

In so doing, Bojan finds himself in the path of a particularly large piece of debris taking out Bojan. Goodbye Bojan. Thankfully, with an emergency rescue performed at the last minute by Felix, Eva survives.

The Ark S2x05 Module from Ark-3 successfully docks with Ark-1

The crew successfully connects the front section of Ark 3 to Ark 1 allowing them to continue their journey to the new destination Trappist-1D where they hope to establish a new colony for humanity.

As the story moves forward, Angus continues to feel useless. Captain Garnet and Lt Lane seem to be getting closer. However, with everything that has happened, the relationship between Eva and Lt Brice seem to be drifting apart.

The Ark S2x05 Eva deletes her criminal records from the Ark-3 computers
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

This may be for the best because, although Eva is grieving her brother, she has time and the surprise motivation to delete criminal records about her past from the library of Ark 3. Finally, Kimi is not taking the comments of Bojan that his sister is a spy as the word of a man with an addled brain. Kimi is pursuing Eva with all the relish she can muster.

What spying did Eva do that was criminal? Find out more in the next episode of season two named “Pretty Big Deal” that will hopefully reveal those details and what is next for our heroes searching for answers in our galaxy!

The Ark Review and Analysis – The Other You is Absolutely Awesome Alternate Reality!

    Welcome Back The Ark fans,

    The Ark Season 2 poster
    Images courtesy SYFY

This second season continues with this exciting episode as another disaster befalls our heroes who cannot seem to catch as break! The fabulous fourth episode of season 2 is one of our favorites since it deals with an alternate reality likely caused by a quantum entanglement as a result of an unstable wormhole when Ark-1 was exiting Faster Than Light (FTL) travel at the end of previous episode “Anomaly”.

This excellent episode written by Madeline Hendricks Lewen is fantastic not only because the writer does a superb job, but because the story in this superb episode provides the main cast an opportunity to portray alternate versions of themselves that highlights their awesome acting talent.

In that last sequence of the previous episode, Lt. James Brice (Richard Fleeshman) disappeared after Ark-1 had been traveling to Ark-3 to obtain spare part to fully repair the FTL drive. Due to damage suffered at Proxima B, Ark-1 needed parts for their longer journey to rejoin the remnants of humanity now headed to a new life at the Trappist 1D solar system.

In modern science fiction television, the 1967 Star Trek original series episode “Mirror, Mirror” set the stage for alternate reality versions of the main characters. Viewers will recall that the Enterprise was sent to an alternate reality where it is in the service of a brutal evil Empire with a equally barbaric crew.

In “Mirror, Mirror” the Enterprise encountered an ion storm sending four crew members including Captain Kirk (William Shatner) to an alternative reality universe after they were negotiating with an alien race for Dilithium crystals that are the warp drive energy source for the Federation Starship fleet.

Similarly, the fabulous Fringe series (2008-2013), and as depicted in many other science fiction series, viewers know about an alternate version of characters between universes, even observing both versions of the Olivia Dunham character in many episodes of this beloved science fiction series.

Fringe fans will recall that a murdered Alternate Inspector Broyles (Lance Reddick) arrived in the “prime universe” when his dead body was transferred from the “alternate universe” as an exchange with Alt Livia (Anna Torv) who had been on a spy mission in our universe after she was returning to her own alternate universe.

    The Other You:

As mentioned above, the episode wonderfully written by Madeline Hendricks Lewen, directed by Milan Todorovic begins where we left off with Lt. James Brice disappearing right in front of Captain Sharon Garnet (Christie Burke), Lt. Spencer Lane (Reece Ritchie), Eva Markovic (Tiana Upcheva), Sasha Novak (Milos Cvetkovic), and Jelena Griff (Tamara Radovanic).

However, what actually happened is that Ark-1 and an alternate universe version were exiting FTL at the exact same time, causing the quantum entanglement that traps the two ships in a starless void. As for the vanishing of Lt. Brice, that is precisely where this fascinating fourth episode of season two begins with a number of events that delighted the viewers at an X party the night of the broadcast!

Alicia Nevins (Stacey Read) runs in to the Ark-1 FTL engine control room to alert everyone that something “weird” is happening.

The ship did not drop out of FTL near Ark-3 where they were supposed to.

Alicia also notes the weirdness is further accentuated in that there are no stars that are visible outside Ark-1 because they are in a starless black void!

We are then apparently with Cat Brandice (Christina Wolfe) who had died during the first episode of the season in “Failed Experiment”.

As science fiction admirers know, characters come back to life in SciFi series!

I for one was happy to see Cat again!

However, viewers were at first left scratching their heads over this development until the reason for her apparent survival becomes clear.

We witness Cat getting out of a stasis pod calling for “Will”. Cat is referring to her lover William Trust (Paul Leonard Murray). We then see Cat walking down a hallway where she sees a flabbergasted William Trust and runs to hug him.

Captain Garnet and the prime reality crew soon learn that Cat is actually a duplicate from another Ark-1 in an alternate reality timeline. We learn that Alternate Cat must have switched places with Lt. Brice during the quantum entanglement exchange with the alternate universe.

The scene switches back to the Ark-1 control room where Captain Garnet, Eva, Lt. Spencer and Alicia are struggling to comprehend what has transpired and why they cannot see any stars.

Captain Garnet suspects that the ships cameras are not working while Alicia says they are in a black “void”. Garnet, Spencer and Alicia run to Captain Garnets room which has exterior viewing windows. When they arrive they confirm that there are in fact no stars!

Security Chief Felix Strickland (Pavle Jerinic) and Kimi Joma (Díana Bermudez), former head of Ark-15 security now serving with Felix on Ark-1 as a security officer, urgently call with an urgent message to meet them in the mess hall.

Sure enough, William Trust and Cat are sitting at a table together. To make matter stranger, Cat refers to Lt. Spencer as Commander Spencer, and Cat, an American in the prime universe, now has a decidedly delightful British accent proving she is not the same Cat who was killed in “Failed Experiment“.

Events continue to bear out that Cat is from another alternate universe when she states that William Trust is her husband and that James Brice died in her universe some ten years ago when he thwarted a terrorist attack on the lunar colony that no one survived, including Lt. Spencer’s father.

Lt. Spencer demands answers believing that Cat is not who she claims to be. Captain Garnet on the other hand, realizes that something odd has happened and that they must investigate to get the answers they require to explain this alternate reality manifestation.

Prime universe genius Alicia provides a credible explanation that Ark-1 never dropped out of FTL and became quantum entangled between the versions of reality that Cat and our heroes are experiencing. Felix if such a phenomena is possible. William Trust confirms that it is not only possible, but is the only logical explanation for what has happened. Alicia is asked by Captain Garnet how they can be “quantum untangled”. Alicia admits that she does not know, but will work on the problem.

We make a stop in the medical bay where Dr. Sanjivni Kabir (Shalini Peiris) is helping Dr. Marsh (Jadran Malkovich) diagnose patients much to his annoyance. Kabir says she is bored while Marsh says she must get more rest before she can return to duty.

The Ark S2x03 Kelly is locked up
Image by Aleksandar Letic Ark TV Holdings, courtesy SYFY

We shift to Kelly, who although locked up, is hearing voices, including Lt. Brice trapped in the alternate universe. Kelly is released by Captain Garnet, Fleix and Kimi who leads them to a wall where she says the voices of William Trust and Lt. Brice are emanating from, Alt William questioning Lt, Brice asking who he is since he died a decade ago in their universe.

The episode focuses on the Ark-1 in the prime universe is about finding a solution to fixing why Lt. Brice and Cat switched universe realities. There are many enjoyable bits by Alt Cat who goes by her full name of Catrina and sports a British accent. The crew are dealing with the Kelly who Alt Cat is able to figure out since artificially enhanced humans, called “Post Humans” in this episode, were her specialty in the alternate universe. Alt Cat decides to help Kelly which will be revealed at the end of the episode. We also learn that Helena (Mercedes De La Cruz) was a manipulative bitch in both realities, and that William Trust is a good person in the alternate reality.

Prime universe Alicia shares that the only way to break the linkage between the two realities is to move Ark-1 to physically un-entangle the two versions of Ark-1.

We then are in the alternate universe with a stark naked Lt. Brice and the alt Ark-1 crew members who are shocked to see him. Not the naked part, but that in their alternate reality Brice died saving the lunar colony from an attack by Eastern Alliance soldiers. Alt Eva then smacks prime Lt Brice for being naked while making provocative statements as Alt Sasha enters the FTL control room.

A fun series of alternate antics begins to take place with Alt Sasha calling Brice a pervert for exposing his “junk hanging out” and chases Prime Universe reality Brice around the Ark-1 FTL engine control room.

Alternate Felix and his security assistant alternate Angus Medford (Ryan Adams) are alerted. They decide to separate to find the intruder, Prime Universe Brice, now trapped in the alternate universe reality version of Ark-1. This sets up several more enjoyable scenes with the cast performing alternate versions of themselves in humorous scenes.

Brice, now dressed and calmed down finds a disheveled Alt Sharon Garnet Prime Brice. She starts gushing over his eyes that she has missed. Alt Sharon tells Prime Brice that they were to be married before he was killed saving the lunar colony. Prime reality Brice finds Alt Alicia Nevins, chief of waste management in the alternate reality, to figure out how to fix the quantum entangled mess they are in! Alt Alicia says she’s a only a genius about garbage and “purifying urine” and that prime reality Brice needs Alt William Trust to figure it all out. Alt Angus shows up and calls Alt Alicia his “babe” thereby proving that some things stay the same in either of the entangled universes! Prime Brice makes the mistake of calling Alt Angus “Plant Boy” who then beats Prime Brice to a pulp with his stun baton! Alt Alicia, who believed Prime Brice, knocks out Alt Angus with his own stun baton because Alt Angus cheated on her last week, and they should “hook up to even the score” before kicking At Angus.

Meanwhile Prime Brice seeks out Alt William Trust who still has Klampkins disease, is still in a stasis pod while his Alt wife Cat’s pod is empty proving the mass displacement quantum entanglement theorem. Alt Trust explains that both Ark-1 ships dropping out of FTL caused the quantum entanglement. They go to see Captain Oliver Lane (Howard Saddler) who is Spencer Lane’s father in the alternate universe. Prime Brice and Captain Lane begins to develop a plan to set things right once again by stopping Alt Ark-1 and sending a binary signal that both Arks must move in opposite directions to send Prime Brice and Alt Cat back to where they belong! During the flashes we briefly see Naomi Spencer (Jessica Yemi) in the Prime Reality.

We move to a conclusion finding a heartbroken Alt Sharon outside the Alt Ark-1 bridge to say goodbye to Prime Reality Brice. Alt Sharon who lost her future husband in the alternate reality gives Prime Brice a kiss.

Despite Alt William Trust not including which direction to move each ship, Prime Alicia figures it out and Lt. Brice returns to Prime Ark-1 (stark naked) once again this time getting a huge hug from Eva! Then we see William Trust sobbing over Alt Cat’s empty clothing knowing he will never see the woman he loves again.

    2024-08-07 Kimis mission is revealed

The last two scenes of the episode begin with Kimi sitting down with Lt. Brice questioning him about the lunar colony mission Brice was a hero of in the alternate reality, and if he was involved in this reality.

Lt. Brice says no, but if he had been, no one would have died. Here we find out what Kimi’s mission in this reality, obviously Brice didn’t go on the lunar mission as he was supposed to, and someone Kimi loved perished there, so it appears Kimi is seeking revenge!

2024-08-07 Alt Cat leaves a message for Kelly

We end the episode when we are with Kelly who is being returned to captivity. Inside her cell, Kelly finds a computing device with message from Alt Cat that she is now in control of her “POST” human enhancements.

Will everything else be okay on Ark-1 now that we know about Kimi’s secret and Kelly having the ability to control her POST Human implants?

Find out next week in the scary fifth episode of season two named “Museum of Death” that will likely deal with the lunar mission and the casualties that became reality in our universe!
