Spiderman Sixtieth Anniversary Exhibition and Celebration – Interviews from the Comic-Con Museum!
Welcome back Comic-Con Museum and Comics Lovers!

On Wednesday July 20, 2022 Team WHR was honored to be granted access to the Comic-Con Museum to interview Patrick A. Reed and Dr. Ben Saunders, Co-curators of the Spiderman exhibit as well as the wonderful Rita Vandergaw, Executive Director of the Comic-Con Museum, where we discussed the exciting sixtieth anniversary of Spider-Man courtesy of the terrific team at JWalcher Communications!

The exhibition took a year of planning with six months of research that created the outstanding detailed walk though event that covers the entire first floor of the museum. The superb #SpideyBeyondAmazing exhibition runs through January 03, 2023, representing a wonderful family event that should not be missed if traveling to San Diego!

“Ever since his debut in 1962, Spider-Man has stood the test of time as one of the most iconic, inspiring, and influential characters in pop culture, capturing the imagination of fans all around the world,” said Cebulski, “Whether you grew up following Spider-Man’s adventures in comics, television, video games or films, no other character embodies the heart and humor of Marvel quite like Peter. We’re thrilled to pay tribute to Spider-Man’s long-lasting legacy, and we’re honored to see him join the Comic-Con Museum Character Hall of Fame.”

During our visit to the Comic-Con Museum, we learned that the facility also honored the world’s favorite web-slinging Super Hero as the fourth inductee into its Museum Character Hall of Fame at “Night at the Comic-Con Museum”, a special event that took place on Comic-Con’s Preview Night, July 20, 2022. The event included access to the exhibit as well as live entertainment, special guests, food and drink. On this special evening, Spider-Man was recognized for his impact on pop culture with the generous support and participation of Marvel Entertainment, which celebrated the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man.

Additionally, the Comic-Con Museum features special displays of the early artwork of Dave Stevens, creator of “The Rocketeer” graphic novel comic which was the inspiration for the movie of the same name, eighty years of the beloved Archie comics, “(Ernest) Hemingway in the Comics” and a wonderful room dedicated to the iconic “Pacman” video arcade game that launched the general public love of video gaming that continues to this very day!

“Marvel’s Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing – The Exhibition” debuted at the Comic-Con Museum on July 01, 2022. Sixty Years of Spider-Man are displayed in a Groundbreaking Exhibit, Located in San Diego’s Historic Balboa Park

SAN DIEGO: To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Marvel’s legendary Spider-Man, the Comic-Con Museum will be home to the world premiere of “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing – The Exhibition,” opening to the public on Friday, July 01, 2022.

This exhibition, located at the Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park (2131 Pan American Plaza, San Diego, CA, 92101), welcomes visitors of all ages to explore the Web-Slinger’s storied history, through original comic art, movie props, costumes and more priceless original artifacts.

Audiences can immerse themselves in the expansive exhibit, learning about the many creators who have contributed to the Spider-Man mythos; posing with life-size character sculptures; encountering some of Spidey’s fiercest foes through cutting-edge digital elements; and celebrating the cultural impact of Peter Parker and his cast of supporting characters. Attendees can also visit the Marvel gift shop, which will feature an array of exclusive exhibition merchandise, including t-shirts, mugs and magnets.

“The world met Spider-Man in 1962, and he remains a sensation today. This 7,500 square-foot exhibit mixes collectible artifacts with innovative technology,” said Rita Vandergaw, executive director of the Comic-Con Museum. “Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing – The Exhibition” is a co-production of Marvel Entertainment and Semmel Exhibitions, and is presented by special arrangement with the Comic-Con Museum and Comic-Con International.

“PAC-MAN Arcade” – PAC-MAN, a neon-lit arcade room featuring one of the most recognized images on the planet, including arcade games, artwork, memorabilia and an exclusive look at the limited time PAC-MAN AR Experience on Snapchat.

Dave Stevens and the Rocketeer: Art for Arf’ Sake” – In addition to over 40 original covers and pages from “The Rocketeer,” this one-of-a-kind exhibit will also feature Stevens’ early works, his artwork for Comic-Con, animation storyboards, and other uniquely designed props and pieces.

“Eight Decades of Archie” – a unique exhibition that explores artifacts including vintage comic books, animation production materials, priceless pieces of original art and pieces from the WB’s popular “Riverdale” series.

A Sneak Preview of “Hemingway in the Comics” – Ernest Hemingway an artist and a pop culture icon through the lens of comics.

The Comic-Con Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the last entry at 5 p.m. Standard admission, including “Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing – The Exhibition,” (adults ages 18+) is $30; children (ages 4-12) are $18; seniors (65+), students (13-17) and military are $24; and group bundles for 10 or more are $25 per ticket. Space City Comic Con – Going Where I Have Never Gone Before, SCCC!

Hey Gulf Coast, can you guess what’s coming up in Houston, Texas?!

Space City Comic Con (SCCC) is happening Friday through Sunday, July 24-26, 2015 at NRG Center! From VIP experiences, cosplayer contests, gaming, panels, actors, voice actors, comic creators/artists, and vendors there will be lots of family entertainment, SCCC has a great many entertainers lined for you.

This will be the place to be for the latest in all things pop-culture! Space City Comic Con is bringing none other than Star Trek’s Captain James T. Kirk, William Shatner! I grew up watching reruns of Star Trek and that was pretty much my leap into the sci-fi genre.

Captain Kirk is very active on twitter, you can find, follow, and interact with Mr. Shatner here: WilliamShatner, and together with his wife, Elizabeth, they have spearheaded a charity called The All Glory Project. Raising money for many great charities, Mr. Shatner and his wife, Elizabeth have hearts of gold.

There is nothing that I don’t love about him! If Star Trek: Voyager was more your speed, SCCC is having a Star Trek: Voyager 20th anniversary celebration on July 25th. Kate Mulgrew, Starfleet Captain Kathryn Janeway, will be there along with other cast mates Ethan Phillips, Manu Intiraymi, artist Rick Sternbach, Tim Russ, Garrett Wang, Robert Beltran and Robert Picardo.

I would recommend checking the schedules first, because you may have your hearts set on seeing some of your favorites, however they may only be at SCCC certain days and times. Assassin’s Creed (AC) fans unite! A huge fan of AC myself, mostly countless hours watching my son play, I love all that goes into creating this video game. From the artwork, motion capture, to the voices behind the game. AC is a game based on rivalry between two secret societies, the Knights Templar and Assassins. Good versus evil.

Scheduled to appear at SCCC are Altair ibn La-Ahad (Cas Anvar, from Source Code, Syfy‘s Olympus), Edward Kenway (Matt Ryan, most recently of Constantine, but also from Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior), Aveline de Grandpre (Amber Goldfarb, from SYFY hits Helix and Being Human), and Federico Auditore da Firenze (Elias Toufexis, from Deus Ex and Bitten).

For the avid Power Rangers fans, an historic reunion is being set for SCCC featuring Power Rangers: Time Force. I have what I refer to as my ‘secret shame’ when it comes to the Power Rangers. I used to watch it with my son and was caught more than once watching them long after my son had left the room.

Even though he seems to have outgrown them, I am kind of excited about reliving that with him! Not the busted alone part.. Speaking of when you’re younger, one often watches shows where you find yourself loving the characters but don’t stop to think too much about who the person is behind it or under the make-up. You just sit and watch, fascinated.

I was very pleased when I recently learned that Gigi Edgley was the brilliant actor behind Chiana from Farscape! She was one of the reasons I loved watching that show and was easily my favorite character. The make-up, the costume and energy!

Gigi has not been idle since Farscape, doing things from recording artist to directing and producing. Make sure to stop by and say hi to Ms. Edgley while at SCCC. Manu Bennett who plays Deathstroke on the CW’s Arrow, yes please! I love a good Supervillain! “A man is only as good as his word. But in the underground world of assassins, mercenaries, and guns-for-hire, words mean little. What matters is action and follow through—completing the mission.

There is something for everyone from what seems like all genres- including Once Upon a Time!

Guess what Oncers? – Robin Hood is coming to Houston. I first saw Sean Maguire in 2008’s Meet the Spartans and this guy is hilarious!

And from One Tree Hill cast members Chad Michael Murray (recently played Mirabeau Lamar in Texas Rising), Antwon Tanner, and Michael Copon. Still more, get set to meet the beautiful and talented Rachel Skarsten of Lost Girl, Reign, and Birds of Prey who is scheduled to attend, as well as Captain Charles Vane of Starz’s Black Sails, Zach McGowan.

If the world of cosplay piques your interest, be certain not to miss Soni Aralynn, Hybrid Cosplay, Tatiana DeKhtyar, Mista Sean J, Vamptress LeeAnna Vamp, to name just a few of the many more to appear. I’m hoping to see some X-Men and, even though you see her a lot, Harley Quinn, to see all the different takes on her costume.

I love the creativity and attention to detail these cosplayers put into their character’s costumes. It is amazing that one can be a professional cosplayer, but when you see the quality of their work, it is not hard to think these artists are anything less than pros!

And as if all of the entertainers on this green earth are not enough for you, check out the myriad of comic illustrators, graphic artists, photographers, and writers.

I know that I am stopping by to see them and their work! They’ve worked on comic books like Spiderman, Catwoman, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and X-Men – just about everything in both the Marvel and DC Comics Universes.

And as any good advertisement states, “but wait, there’s more!” Tartanic, the touring bagpipe, drum, dance, and comedy ensemble is coming to SCCC! One biography reads, “Imagine one dancer, six drums, six drones, 18 notes, fast fingers, high comedy, flying happiness, taste-defying stunts, and scorching hot music played at over 120 beats per minute with driving speed and high volume, all brought to you by four men without pants and two smokin’ hot lasses!”

This fun group is definitely on my SCCC must list! There will be so much to do and see at Space City Comic Con! I’m positive that I didn’t fit everything in.

Today we bring you a special Behind the Scenes feature about the event and the creators of the fabulous Hollywood Treasure Auctions, Profiles in History.

The incredible journey of Profiles in History (on television) began October 27, 2010 when something fun and exciting occurred, when a new television series called “Hollywood Treasure” aired on SyFy in the United States! In fact, Joe Maddelena has been on his quest since 1985 when he formed the company!

“Hollywood Treasure” is an excellent reality based program focusing on the adventurous journeys of Profiles in History’s Joe Maddelana and his relentless team of rare movie and television memorabilia detectives! Although not specific to a certain genre of movie or television program, the series highlights the Profiles in History Team in their adventures to many locations where extremely rare and unique artifacts of a science fiction, fantasy and or adventure movie nature can be found. The show documents the finding of the ‘treasure’ that is among the most popular blockbuster movies or long lived television series artifacts in history.

As seen on SyFy, Hollywood Treasure returns in 2011 when Joe Maddelena will continue to travel the globe to locate extremely rare entertainment items previously lost to history or secreted away for decades. Hidden in closets, garages and storage areas across the globe, the owners of the entertainment antiques, set used costumes, scripts, set used vehicles or other rare artifacts are often stunned at the value of the items when Brian Chanes and Tracey McCall of Hollywood Treasure shares with them how much they will garner when sold at auction.

“Treasure” included in the Behind The Scenes video are the great items from Back to the Future, Warehouse 13, Eureka, and the authentic Teal’c Goa’uld chest plate and head piece shown above and below by Christopher Judge of Stargate!

The Profiles in History team shown herein raised funds for charity that benefited the Variety – Children’s Charity of Southern California and Michael J. Fox Foundation’s “Team Fox” conducted at The Globe Theatre at Universal Studios on Saturday November 6, 2010 as shown in the behind the scenes video above. Mr. Gale has donated many items from his personal Back to the Future collection and his sales proceeds will go to Team Fox. Other collectors have consigned their Back to the Future items, designating a percentage of their sales directly to Team Fox. Highlighting this group is The most technically accurate reproduction of the iconic DeLorean Time Machine from Back to the Future ever built ($80,000-$100,000) and The Bob Gale Experience, in which Bob Gale will dine with the lucky winning bidder and a guest in Los Angeles, while helping to support The Michael J. Fox Foundation in their fight against Parkinson’s Disease.

The winner and a guest can have lunch with Bob Gale in Los Angeles, subject to his schedule, OR a 1 hour-long phone call if travel to L.A. isn’t possible. Lunch will be paid for by the Profiles in History team and the television show, Hollywood Treasure, on Syfy.
