We hope for many more seasons to come for this superb science fiction series as we await Van Helsing’s return to our screens in September 27 2019. remaining a 13 episode series that originally premiered on September 23, 2016.

During the Press Room interviews, and earlier in the Van Helsing SDCC 2019 panel where TeamWHR recorded exclusive video clips before the interviews, much respect was paid to Neil LaBute for creating the re-imagined Van Helsing series.

We also would like to once again thank Jonathan Lloyd Walker for continuing our beloved program into the fourth season and hopefully seasons 5,6,7 and beyond!!

As we continue to share our many adventures during SDCC50 at San Diego Comic Con, we still look back fondly to our prediction in 2016 that Van Helsing as a series would run many successful seasons.

Hello my fellow Mayans M.C. fans!

Season 1 may be over, but the anticipation is still very much alive for Season 2!

I first heard about Mayans M.C. last year when rumors were circulating that there was a spin-off of the iconic and sacred (to most) Sons of Anarchy. I was a fan of SOA in as much as I caught a few seasons here and there, but I wasn’t a regular viewer of the show. Not that I didn’t like it, just time and work prevented me from getting caught up enough.

Usually spin-offs of highly popular shows don’t do well with fans or ratings. Mayans, however proved that point wrong. It was every bit as good as SOA, although definitely different as well.

That is why I love it, is because although there are a few of the characters that show up from SOA, the main focus is the Mayans. There is definitely another cultural difference as well, which is great to see on a network like FX.

    SDCC 2018 Mayans M.C. Panel
    SDCC 2018 Mayans M.C. Panel

Flashback to San Diego Comic-Con 2018 when Mayans M.C. was featured in its very first panel before the season aired in September. It was in the megalithic Hall H which has a reputation for having the likes of The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things just to name a few whom have graced its hallowed halls.

To present brand new show that has not even aired yet, of a spin off to a HUGELY popular show was risky, but Kurt Sutter is one to take risks and as luck would have it, it paid off. See for yourself in an FX Networks video clip from SDCC 2018 clip we include below.

    Edward James Olmos-SDCC 2018-Mayans M.C

The really great thing about Mayans is the all Latino (except for one cast member) cast. As much as television claims to be “diverse” it really isn’t. To see a few named actors be a part of this show, too, was a real treat. One of those actors (who happens to be a favorite of mine) is Edward James Olmos.

Growing up I remember watching him on Miami Vice (1984) as Martin Castillo (for which he won an Emmy). Danny Pino, who has worked with Kurt Sutter before on (in my opinion) one of the greatest cop shows of all time, The Shield, but we also know him from Law & Order: SVU and Tony Plana, veteran actor of both stage and screen. The only non-Latino cast member is Sarah Bolger, from Once Upon A Time, who holds her own very well against these great men and is the only other female regular cast member on the show.

    SDCC 2018 JD Pardo & Danny Pino-SDCC 2018-Mayans M.C

The great thing as well about new shows is introducing fans to new actors. One such is JD Pardo who plays EZ Reyes on Mayans. Now, this was the first time I had ever heard of JD, and once I saw him (he’s very easy on the eyes) in the show I became an instant, life-long fan.

When I see an actor that really piques my interest, I find everything they are in and watch it all. With JD, I was pleasantly surprised to see his work has been acclaimed for a while. I was happy to discover a series he was in on Hulu called East Los High (for which he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy). He was really great in that show and I do recommend it.

JD was also in two sci-fi shows, Revolution and The Messengers (both short seasons, but worth watching). He brings so much depth and range to his character on Mayans and I am so looking forward to the new season.

Another actor that literally floored me is Richard Cabral. I first saw him in the first season of the series Lethal Weapon. He made such an impact that when I heard he was in Mayans, I was ecstatic. He is astonishing in Mayans (and pretty much anything else he is in), as his character Johnny ‘Coco’ Cruz with his signature catch phrase of “My Bad”. His character and the arc he goes through is what makes Mayans such an interesting show. The depth he shows is tremendous, in all the scenes he’s in. You cannot take your eyes off him, and it isn’t because of all the tattoos he has or his unique face, but by the sheer brilliance of his craft. He is what we directors call an absolute dream actor, such range and power that all you have to do is give him words to say and watch it all just happen. And I guarantee you will be floored by the end.

SDCC 2018 Edward James Olmos and Sarah Bolger - Image courtesy Shutter Shock
Image copyright link back courtesy Shutter Shock

Being the veteran of the cast, Olmos brings his intensity to his character with the ease he has always made it look. His character of Felipe Reyes is nuanced and subtle but powerful. The way Olmos plays him is quiet, but you can feel that intensity radiate off the screen. His character is multi layered and has many secrets and we get to see how that slowly reveals itself throughout the series. Olmos doesn’t overact those parts, he flows through them with perfect emotion and leaves you breathless in the intense scenes.

My favorite scenes are between Olmos and Pardo as they play out their father/son dynamic. Not only is it two great actors acting in those scenes together, but a father and son finding their relationship again after unfortunate circumstances kept them apart. They both bring their A game to every scene they are in and it shows 100% in all their shared scenes.

SDCC 2018 Sarah Bolger - Image courtesy Shutter Shock

Sarah Bolger is really great in the series too!

Sarah brings a whole different dynamic to the scintillating series. Her character is another one to watch as her character arc changes over the course of the hit Mayans M.C. series.

How she plays Emily Thomas is really wonderful. While Sarah displays her vulnerability, with a bit of naïveté, there is also also a fiery, smart, skillful piece of a complicated puzzle revealed in Sarah’s portrayal of the Emily character.

Sarah Bolger - Image courtesy Kurt Sutter

The scenes between Sarah and JD are filled with sublime morsels for us to sink our teeth into.

The journey they both take individually and separately is one I am looking forward to in Season 2 of Mayans M.C..

SDCC 2018 Kurt Sutter - Image courtesy Kurt Sutter
SDCC 2018 Kurt Sutter – Image courtesy Kurt Sutter

Kurt Sutter, the genius behind SOA, is once again at the helm of this ship. His skill as a storyteller is as present as ever in this series. His signature is all over this and I for one am very happy to see that. His characters are fully realized, they are as flawed as we all are, and the way he writes his female characters is truly a revelation.

Kurt doesn’t shy away from showing the darker parts of people “When you live on the fringe you are subject to all the things on the fringe” is what he said about Mayans. The female characters in this series are strong, passionate, smart, feminine, deeply scarred and fearless. He has such a respect for the voices women have that he said more than half the writers on Mayans are women. Plus being married to Katey Sagal helps, too, because we all know what kind of woman Gemma Teller Morrow was.

Well, I hope that you have enjoyed my summary of my impressions of the fabulous new FX Networks superb series, Mayans M.C.?

I know I didn’t go into much detail about the series, but my advice is to watch it for yourself and discover that world that toes the line at the U.S./Mexico border. My fondest dream is that I will be granted access to the FX Networks Press Room during San Diego Comic Con in 2019.

    Until next season!

    Chase Masterson: Anti-Bullying Superhero!

Visit and learn more abouty Chase Masterson at her official web site!

Welcome back to WHR You Decide!

Chase Masterson HeadshotThis Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 10am PST, we are honored and VERY excited to have with us, the wonderful entertainer, Chase Masterson, where you can call and speak with Chase at 347-838-9722!

A talented actress, Chase is also an established songstress (did you know that Chase has at least three albums floating about out there? The Thrill of the Chase, Ad Astra, Crystal Anniversary: Songs From the Holosuite), a producer, and a voice over talent too!

Click to visit and learn more about Chase Masterson at her official web site!

Chase Masterson is currently working on a brand new productions, one is entitled “Unbelievable” featuring a huge ensemble cast with many Star Trek alums including Michael Dorn, Robert Picardo, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, Connor Trinneer, Whoopi Goldberg, Tim Russ, BarBara Luna, Gary Lockwood and other legends of the entertainment world including Elke Sommer, Linda Park, Michael Forest, Anne McDaniels, Christopher Atkins and John O’Hurley!

    Chase Masterson with RUR Team

Chase Masterson from RURThe next Chase Masterson project we will learn about is called “R.U.R. Genesis” a science fiction drama that based on the image to the left,  looks spectacular!

The “R.U.R. Genesis” production is so new we will rely on Chase to clue us in, however, thanks to Ms. Masterson, we include a Behind The Scenes (BTS) and Chase in photo opportunity images here for your enjoyment (and to figure out who is in them)!

Employing her passion for helping others, Chase Masterson is fresh off of New York Comic Con and all of its grandeur, promoting Chase’s “Anti-Bullying Coalition”, which she founded and has enjoyed its most recent spotlight session in New York City!

    Anti-Bullying Coalition at NYCC 1

Her most renowned role is that of Leeta, the Dabo girl at Quark’s from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Originally written as a guest role, this role of a lifetime turned into a five year voyage aboard Deep Space Nine. Before ST: DS9, there Leeta from DS9was the memorable role of Ivy Leif on ABC’s General Hospital.

There were also wonderful roles we all remember with Chase on NBC’s ER and as Kelly Welles, sister to Sabrina Lloyd’s Wade Welles on Sliders which aired on both FOX and Syfy Channels!

Not limited to the small screen, Chase can be seen in a feature film called Yesterday Was a Lie, co-starring Kipleigh Brown, John Newton, Mik Scriba, and Peter Mayhew. Chase is credited as a producer, and also appears on the film’s soundtrack.

yesterday_was_a_lie_movie_posterNot to be forgotten is Chase’s voice over work on Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, and two Doctor Who audio dramas – out of which came her own series, based on her Vienna character with three new titles slated for release in 2014.

Chase has not escaped recognition by fans and critics alike. Citing her popularity at Star Trek conventions, AOL named her “one of the 10 most sexiest aliens on TV” a few years back.

In a 2004 TV Guide readers’ poll, Chase was named as a favorite Sci-Fi actress on TV. She has certainly found a niche and a dedicated following. I would also be remiss if I did not mention the work that Chase does for our armed forces – having toured and sang with the USO in support of our Navy and Marine Corps.

IAnti-Bullying Coalition at SDCC 1n recent months, Chase has gained a following and a status of a social kind. In its first appearance of any kind on a grand stage, Chase’s Anti-Bullying Coalition joined forces with NOH8 Campaign, the Anti-Defamation League, Cartoon Network, and friends.

These friends include Carrie Goldman (author of Bullied: What Every Parent, Teacher, and Kids Needs to Know About Ending the Cycle of Fear), Jenna Busch, Bonnie Burton, (NOH8 Campaign Founders) Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley, Brad Bell, Jane Espenson, Alice Cahn, and Ashley Eckstein.

    Anti-Bullying Coalition at SDCC 2

Taking to one of the grandest stages of all, San Diego Comic Con – (nothing like going small and taking baby steps, eh), this group of pragmatic and caring individuals came together to express compassion and a concern for those being bullied for being “different”.

As the co-founder (with Carrie Goldman) of the Anti-Bullying Coalition, Chase has invested an extreme amount of heart and soul into this project, and to leave San Diego with such positive vibes and reviews had to have been extremely pleasing and exciting for Chase.

Anti-Bullying Coalition at NYCC 2But the good news didn’t stop there. As this year’s New York Comic Con (NYCC) was set to get under way, NYCC INVITED Chase and Carrie’s Anti-Bullying Coalition to host a panel here too, essentially closing out the convention in grand style.

Now in WHR Post production, we will post our coverage in the the very near future!

What better press and coverage could you get – in the heart of New York City, with close to 150,000 fans shuffling by over the 4 day event?

Chase Masterson in RUR GenesisProps to Chase for being at the booth EVERY day of the event, manning the booth encouraging visitors to chat, pin up a note of encouragement for themselves or friends – or even those doing the bullying. All egos and chips (on shoulders) were “checked at the door” of their booth, it was a place of escape, a place to “find resources, healing, and answers.”

This year’s panel was moderated by Carrie Goldman, panelists included Bonnie Burton, Jenna Busch, Ashley Eckstein, Chase Masterson, Brad Bell, Alice Cahn, Jeff Parshley & Adam Bouska founders of NOH8), and Jason Sirois (a representative from the Anti-Defamation League).

This was an extraordinary opportunity for the Anti-Bullying Coalition, having been invited and given a prominent “spot” on the floor of NYCC. NOH8 held their FIRST EVER photo shoot at a major convention, with Adam and Jeff affirming their gratefulness at the “opportunity to share our message and empower comic con attendees by showing them that they are not alone, and that there really is hope for a future without hate!”

Alice Cahn and Cartoon Network’s approach to “Stand Up to Bullying” is one that resonates at home with me, with our 3 girls. It is a channel that they (we) often land on and stay on.

The message is not lost on us in our house, our girls seem to take it with them to school daily – if not at the forefront of the minds, it has taken root and they are at the least informed and have begun to know what to do when broached by the issue.

Anti-Bullying Coalition at NYCC 3Granted our two little ones are only in first grade, our eldest is a middle schooler this year, thankfully ALL of them are confident little Star Wars loving buggers!

This is a message that needs to continue to be presented at any opportunity and every corner, this movement has gathered steam this year with its appearances at San Diego Comic Con and New York Comic Con.

Please join us this Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 10am PST for an awesome journey into Deep Space and back with the wonderful Chase Masterson on WHR You Decide Radio as we continue the momentum gathered by the Anti-Bullying Coalition and NOH8.

When we last saw our Mystic Falls teens Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) had a tearful goodbye with Aunt Jenna Sommers (Sara Canning), Carolyn Forbes (Candice Occola) and Matt Donovan (Zach Roering) barely escaped Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) on the full moon, and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) was coming to terms with the fact the bite he took from Tyler was gonna drive him mad just as it did Rose (Lauren Cohan). I thought for sure that Elijah (Daniel Gillies) would go through with killing Klaus (Joseph Morgan). However, Klaus pulled the “I did not kill our family card”. I would like to say I was surprised, but I was not. Elijah whisked Klaus to safety only to have his heart ripped out in the end. Literally!

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - Fate awauts

In the season finale the writers brought out that side of Damon that I love! The sensitive side. Damon begs Elena for forgiveness after he made her drink his blood. It was to save her life so how could that be so bad? I guess if you do not want to be a creature of the night that feeds off of human blood it is a bad thing. If Elena knew Damon’s intentions she would have given him her forgiveness. When Damon headed home there was a song playing called “Turn to Stone” by Ingrid Michaelson. It sets the mood for what Damon had planned. After taking off his ring, yes the ring that keeps him from dying, Damon stood in front of the window and opened the curtains and lets the sun hit his skin. Just as you think he was about to die Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) saves the day! Phew! I was worried for a moment. Throwing him in the cellar was the only way he could keep Damon from hurting himself.

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - Turn to stone

Alaric Saltzman (Mathew Davis) was drowning his sorrows in booze over the death of his girlfriend Jenna when Stefan called him and asked him to please watch Damon for him. It was a shame Jenna was sacrificed in Klaus’s ritual. I would have loved to see more from Sara Canning on the show but after two seasons they killed her character, Jenna Sommers off. Or did they? One can only hope that they will bring her back. We have seen the dead come back on The Vampire Diaries. Sara Canning is a very nice person that my daughter and I actually had the pleasure to meet at Dragoncon this year in Atlanta.

Is it just me or does Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) seem to have a spell to fix everything? Bonnie and Stefan turned to Emily Bennett (Bianca Lawson) for help in saving Damon from his werewolf bite. Bonnie chanted and channeled Emily’s energy. Stefan asked Emily if there was something that she knew that could save Damon’s life. Emily refused to give Stefan his answer. Emily left Bonnie and told her that she was not welcome there and the witches thought she was abusing her power. Damon burned his bridges with the witches and now he cannot cross back over. Somehow through all of that Bonnie heard the answer from the witches. The answer was Klaus! What can Klaus do to save Damon?

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - A fight for dominance

After locking Damon in the cellar Stefan headed over to the “Gone With The Wind” showing to meet up with Elena. Stefan told Elena about the werewolf bite that Damon sustained from Tyler. Of course Elena feels bad! She had practically thrown Damon out of her house that morning without giving him her forgiveness. Elena left Jeremy and Carolyn and headed over to the Salvatore mansion to help Damon. Was she doing it out of guilt or out of love? Either way Stefan had himself to blame for sending her over there. There is so much on screen chemistry between Damon and Elena that I would love to see them together. Off camera Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are actually a couple.

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - Gone With the Wind

Stefan went to Klaus’s to find out what the witches meant by Klaus having the cure for Damon. Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) was there waiting for Stefan to come back for her in the hopes Klaus would be dead and she would be free of his compulsion. Klaus and Elijah come home and Stefan asked Klaus to help him save his brother. Klaus said “it will have to wait because right now I have an obligation to uphold to my brother”. Elijah told Stefan that surely he understood how important family was and that he just wanted to be reunited with his family. Klaus being the evil bloodsucker that he is stabbed Elijah in the heart and said “and you shall be”.

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - It is about to happen

After the death of Elijah, Klaus turned his knife on Stefan and stabbed him. He did not stab him in the heart so it was not fatal just painful. A painful reminder that Klaus had the upper hand. Stefan told Klaus that if he gave him the cure for Damon that he would do whatever Klaus wanted him to do. I did not want to hear those words from Stefan because it could have only meant that we would not see Stefan ever again. Just as I thought Klaus had plans for Stefan to leave with him and Katherine.

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - The party is about to begin

He wanted to bring out that animal side of Stefan by making him drink human blood and lots of it. After Stefan agreed to go with Klaus if he gave him the cure Klaus turned on Katherine and bit her on the arm. Now that Klaus is part werewolf and part vampire one bite from him can kill a vampire. Just as she thought she was doomed to die Klaus bites his wrist and makes Katherine drink his blood. Immediately the bite healed. Klaus’s blood was the answer to saving Damon. In turn for staying with Klaus he gave Katherine a bottle of his blood and told her to take it to Damon. Klaus made Stefan kill an innocent girl which looked as if Stefan did not mind.

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - Ready for the kill

Carol Lockwood (Susan Walters) paid a visit to sheriff Liz Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) and told her that if she cannot get a handle on the vampire situation she would find someone who could. Liz is determined to put an end to Damon once and for all. Just as Elena was showing up to check on Damon Sheriff Forbes grabbed her and went inside the house. Alaric was getting blood for Damon out of the cooler when Liz locked him in the room and went for Damon. Alaric warned her but we all know she does not listen well when it comes to vampires. Seeing Damon passed out on the floor Liz thought it was safe to go in and kill Damon. After the deputy opened the door and Liz walked in Damon struck her from behind and escaped. Alaric called and warned Jeremy that Damon had escaped and they needed to find him. Bonnie, Carolyn and Jeremy headed out to find him.

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - When will it happen

Damon was spotted at the grill and Sheriff Forbes headed over to there to find him and ordered the deputy to keep Elena there. When Jeremy got to the grill he saw Damon so he called Bonnie and told her he had found Damon. The Sheriff walks in and aims her gun at Damon and shoots Jeremy. Of course, Damon was gone! Coming in Carolyn and Bonnie find Jeremy bleeding out on the floor. Carolyn tried to get Jeremy to drink her blood but he was already gone. Alaric showed up and Bonnie told them she knew what she needed to do. The Sheriff tells them they cannot leave but Carolyn convinces her mother to let them take Jeremy.

Bonnie and Alaric took Jeremy back to the house in the woods that the witches inhabited and started a ritual to try and bring Jeremy back. The witches were not very happy with Bonnie for coming back to the house but she begged Emily to help her save Jeremy because she loved him. Just when all the candles blow out and you think that this was the end for Jeremy he opened his eyes. I was very happy to see this because the show would not be the same without him. After getting Jeremy home Alaric decides to stay with Jeremy. Does this mean that maybe Alaric will be a father figure for Elena and Jeremy? Maybe season 3 will give us that answer.

The Vampir Diaries S2x22 - Two key figures

In the meantime Elena was breaking out of Sheriff’s office by throwing a chair through the window! She really wanted to get to Damon before Liz did. Elena found Damon at the “Gone With The Wind” showing and urged him to go with her. He was confusing the present with the past and thought Elena was Katherine so he bit her. She was begging him to stop because he was hurting her. Finally realizing it was Elena Damon let go of her. She took him back to his house and put him in his bed.

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - In the theatre
Elena promised Damon that she would stay with him to the very end. Damon told Elena that all those years he had blamed Stefan for making him love Katherine but he realized it was not Stefan’s fault at all. It was his choice and he wanted Elena to tell Stefan that. Damon apologized to Elena for everything he had done to hurt her and he wanted her to know he loved her.

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - Feeding time

Speaking of the devil, Elena walks in with the cure in her hand after overhearing what Damon and Elena are talking about. Katherine gives Damon Klaus’s blood and tells him she owed him one. Before leaving she told Elena that Stefan had turned himself over to Klaus in order to save his brother. That he had sacrificed everything to include her. Katherine told Elena it was ok to love them both because she did.

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - Feeding of the clan

At the very end of the episode Jeremy was woke up by a noise in the house and went downstairs to check and see what it was. A girl was following him and spoke his name. When Jeremy turned around it was Anna (Malese Jow). Another voice came from behind him and when he turned he saw his ex girlfriend Vicki Donovan (Kayla Ewell). A very nice way to end season 2. I hope there will be more of Vicki in season 3. If two that were killed can come back from the dead, maybe that leaves hope that Aunt Jenna will return.

The Vampire Diaries S2x22 - Aghast at the end
