Hello fans of the lovely Canadian actress Krista Rand!Click to visit and follow Krista Rand on Twitter!

Recently I had the pleasure of conducting an extensive interview with an up and coming actress, the gorgeous Ms. Krista Rand!

During our time together we touched upon a wide range of entertainment and personal topics including her work in film, on television, in stage plays, dancing and one of her passions, her workbook LIVE updates! (click the banner below to visit Krista at her Workbook LIVE page)

Krista Rand Banner - Click to visit her Workbook live!A resident of Vancouver British Columbia, this wonderfully talented actress was kind enough to invest nearly ninety minutes of her time in an intimate interview.

We discussed her recent work with Amanda Tapping, Robin Dunne, Ryan Roibbins and Aliyah O’Brien of the hit Syfy television series Sanctuary, her current work with Brian McCaig on “Mr. Young”, another hit (comedy) program featured on the Canadian television network “Y TV” and her work on stage.

Perhaps most telling was her recent experiences at the Sanctuary season three wrap parties! Yes my friend you have read correctly, there was two parties in Vancouver the weekend of August 21, 2011, the official studio event and an after party at non other than the home of Robin Dunne featuring a 1980’s motif replete with exciting music playlists from that much beloved bygone era.

Sworn to secrecy after Comic-Con 2011 where Ms. Amanda Tapping revealed that the Sanctuary was credit to house Mr. Dunne, we have not leaked the details of the 80’s Sanctuary wrap “after party” and whether or not Robin Dunne was able to keep his pants on during the festivities in his own home, but YOU can listen to the revelations here, now TODAY for YOURSELF! ZOMG!

I could go on for a long as the wonderful interview itself, but will cease so you can enjoy the vibrant spirit that is Krista Rand! She is an exciting personality to talk with so I know you will enjoy her interview as much as I did in conducting it.

Thank you Krista for a truly inspiring interview!

    About Sanctuary For Kids:

Sanctuary for Kids is a Vancouver, BC based charity aiding children in crisis around the world. Some of their current projects include funding a house, “Sanctuary House,” at the Nepal Orphans Home in Kathmandu which provides food, shelter, education and family to girls who have been orphaned and/or trafficked during Nepal’s long civil war.

They are also working with Asha Nepal and Next Generation Nepal to provide safe haven for children and families. In other regions, Sanctuary for Kids is working with Save the Children to provide aid to children in crisis in Haiti and Pakistan. At home, Sanctuary for Kids is working with the local Vancouver charity Watari, which aids homeless teens and provides them with the means to live safely as well as training for work, parenting, and helping them complete their education.

Sanctuary for Kids was founded by Amanda Tapping, Damian Kindler, and Jill Bodie in an effort to give something back to society after being gifted with tremendous success in the world of science fiction television, most recently the show, Sanctuary.

The safety and well-being of children is a major passion of all three, and with the enormously networked sci-fi community, they were able to start this grass-roots charity and turn it into something very special. Please visit their website: www.sanctuaryforkids.org to learn more about this unique organization.

  • AT5 Reverberation: Day One Cocktail Party – NUBBINS and AT “I Hear You Are the Lively Table!”

Good morning, afternoon, or evening GABIT Events fans!Click to learn more about AT5 at GABIT Events!

Amanda Tapping arrived just after 8pm. I missed the start of her speech because the reception to her arrival was phenomenal! It took a good few minutes for the silence to rain over the crazy cheers and whistles.

Amanda made a little speech about “looking forward to seeing your charms and how charming you all are” and finished with the typical Amanda humour of “See you in a minute….or eight minutes…of sixteen!”

Our table was amazing and we quite happily kept ourselves entertained with every topic imaginable from “I like pie” to “Thor at a Hens’ Party”. Every moment was filled with giggles to the point where when Amanda arrived at our table, her first words were “I hear you’re the lively table!”

    AT5 -Amanda Tappins wonderful smile!
Amanda worked her way around the table talking to each of us. Upon reaching me, I still had the giggles from earlier so Amanda greeted me and I only managed to giggle a greeting in response. Dork! Anyway, my cocktail charm was an ice skate, so of course Amanda questioned whether I skate.

The answer, “No, I play field hockey” provoked a very amusing facial expression indeed! Amanda did mention, though, that she’s trying to get Olivia into something like hockey or maybe the opposite extreme of ballet, which led to both Amanda and I admitting that neither of us were ever graceful enough when we tried ballet!

    AT5 Nubbins at Cocktail Party
We also have a new and upcoming Sam Carter, as Libby studying physics and Astrophysics to which Amanda responded “So in a few years time you’ll be the one saving the world”, and “you can say all the long words now too!” That really didn’t help the ‘liveliness’ of the table!

AT5 - Amanda centerpiece at the convention tables
The traditional photo of the whole table was probably a nightmare for John Goode (GABIT co-director), as everyone seemed to take their turn blinking. Once again, the laughter was infectious! We eventually managed to get one with Visit & donate to Sanctuary For Kids & Dare to Dream!all the eyes open and normal smiles, so hopefully that will come out as a lovely moment of a wonderful evening.

Next up on Saturday is the wonderful Sanctuary For Kids charity auction which I I hope raises a lot of money to help the children!

  • AT5 Reverberation: Day One – Meet and Greet, Hey Soul Sister (video) and More!

Greeting GABIT Events Fans,Click to visit the London Renaissance Heathrow Hotel!

Oh. Wow. What….what a first day! The tumultuous and highly anticipated arrival of the hundreds of fans from every corner of the globe caused something of an explosion of excitement and uproar at the Renaissance Hotel, Heathrow.

Nobody was injured in the cacophony, but I have a feeling that much of the excessive excitement was exorcised, and by evening, everyone had settled into a serene but joyous celebration of what this convention is all about: Love, the coming together of fans with common passions, the sharing of the spirit of giving and open hearts, all under the blessing of Amanda Tapping and the reigning GABIT Team lead by Julia Hague.

Click to learn more about AT5 at GABIT Events!

For us, the AT5 Reverberation experience really began with our arrival at Heathrow Terminal 3 (after 37 hours of airports and flights) at Thursday lunchtime. Welcomed at the door by people whom we have all come to love as siblings on the internets.

The day was spent in struggling to accept that this was not Skype or our often frequented Amanda Tapping Dot Com chat room, but was real. Real life. It is a concept that still boggles the mind somewhat. Scifi geeks from all across the world over simply must understand how difficult this is to accept!

After very little shut-eye, the experience fairly carried on without interruption into Friday morning, as more and people poured on from all corners of the UK, Europe and around the planet.

    AT5 - Jandyra and Kate
The first official congregation of the day was GABITs AT5 Reverberation ‘Meet and Greet’, a welcome designed specifically with fans who are traveling alone.  By this point, those who had been there for at least a day were well accustomed to each other’s quirks, but it was a lovely way to formally bring those people together.

Sue GeoVisit & donate to Sanctuary For Kids & Dare to Dream!rge manned the charity desk, which was overflowing with S4K hoodies, shirts, wristbands assorted badges of quotes from both Sanctuary and Stargate, memorabilia, raffle tickets, car stickers and and on!

    AT5 - Jandyra and Zoe
After emptying exhausting our daily spending allowances, it was another brief burst of craziness in the lobby, before everyone retired for showers and makeup in preparation for the evening’s Cocktail Party.

AT5 - Entrance to the fun at the REN!
Being one of the ‘unfortunates’, we spent the entire evening lounging in the lobby, before migrating out into the cool but mild  night air, armed with guitars and our vocal chords. What followed was the most sublimely cathartic and uniting love fest of the day so far. For some three full hours, inspirational and uplifting songs floated up through the night air above Heathrow, and cast a warm glow in our hearts which will echo throughout the weekend.

As Amanda left the cocktail party, and strode out into the night air, the strains of Train’s “Hey Soul Sister” were being harmoniously warbled, and she bopped cheekily with an even more splitting grin. One shut door later, she drove away with a massively excited grin, waving madly through the window at our cosy and equally flailing bunch. A beautiful and perfect closing to a wildly fantastic day!

  • “A Plus Plus” Grade for Creation Entertainment’s Chicago Stargate Con AND Pips Award Winning Music Vid “Good To Be Bad!

“A Plus Plus” Grade for Creation Entertainment’s Chicago Stargate Con AND Pips Award Winning Music Vid “Good To Be Bad!

Click to visit the fabulous Creation Entertainment!

    Hello again Stargate fans!

Let me start off by saying that this year’s Stargate Convention in Chicago was arguably the best Creation Entertainment convention I have been to yet. The atmosphere was laid back and relaxed and provided a sense of calm for all attending. It was fun and funny and entertaining and more than provided its money’s worth.

The people who were there on Creation Entertainment’s behalf were both accommodating and engaging, never hesitating to assist anyone who had a question or general comment to ask or make. This sort of environment made for a convention that was fantastic from very beginning (once we arrived at the convention) to the end!

Though arriving at the convention was a hassle unto itself, once Tara and I received our access to the ballroom, it was nonstop fun from start to finish. The convention kicked off with Steve Bacic’s Q and A. Due to travel issues we ended up in there a little bit late, but Steve had us laughing even before we sat down.

ChiCon 2010 handsome Steve Bacic during his panel!

And that only increased once Dan Shea had joined in on the ‘question asking’ for Steve’s panel. Those two bantered back and forth for a good portion of the end of Steve’s panel (from which I received a lovely personal ‘gift’ from Steve, which I will go into more detail about in my full convention report), which pretty much merged into Dan’s Friday panel (he would be attending all weekend, so would have many other moments on stage).

ChiCon 2010 Stuntman Dan Shea does pushups!

Though I will not go into too much detail on my personal ‘investment’ (all together unintended, but ultimately hysterical) with Dan’s time on stage that Friday, I will say that he is very entertaining and energetic. He even took a few seconds to stop moving so those lucky people with cameras poised could snap the elusive good picture of Dan on stage (i.e. – not motion blurred).

ChiCon 2010 Dan Shea during his panel

Friday carried on much the same, with equally satisfying panels from Andee Frizzell and Christopher Heyerdahl (who appeared on stage together) and Robert Picardo.  Andee shared her personal trials of just trying to get into the U.S to get to the convention and Chris was often off the stage ‘assisting’ those asking questions or taking a moment to glance at a banner on the wall. They mentioned how they had flown in on the same plane together and hadn’t even realized it (Andee made a joke about how egotistical she must be to not realize she was on the same plane as Chris Heyerdahl – Chris made a similar comment about himself).

ChiCon 2010 Andree Frizzell and Chris Heyerdahl

ChiCon 2010 Chris Heyerdahl and wall poster!

Robert’s panel (which was before Andee and Chris’) consisted of him making a lot of comments about Richard Woolsey being a pretty disreputable character who was then build up to be a disreputable character that the audience liked a little more. He made some parallels between working on Star Trek and working on Stargate (made specific mention of adlibbing lines, such as in Stargate Atlantis where Woolsey forgets Chuck’s name), as well as parallels between Star Trek fans and Stargate fans (with a lot of crossover in between.

ChiCon 2010 Robert Picardo aka Mr. Woolsey!

Alfonso, Robert’s ‘cousin’ came up often and it was made clear that Alfonso would be appearing later on that evening. Alfonso did appear later, at the Cabaret, along with Dan Shea and Andee Frizzell. Dan was just as energetic as before, and Andee shared some rather hysterical and somewhat disturbing stories. Alfonso, as he seems to be known to do, flirted endlessly with his female audience members.

ChiCon 2010 Dan Shea entertains Creation Caberet!

ChiCon 2010 Andee Frizzell sings at Caberet!

He pulled a few of them up on stage to sing a song written by his cousin ‘Roberto’ that was based in the Star Trek fandom. He also provided much romantic advice, of which he was sure to emphasize he was the best at ‘romance’ (he had many ‘appointments’ by the end of his show).

ChiCon 2010 Robert Picardo displays his manliness!

Following this display of sexual manliness was the karaoke, which Creation Entertainment held in the ballroom rather than the ball. I personally enjoyed the change because the ballroom provided a better atmosphere – it provided a sense of comfort to be able to stay in the same room where we had been all day and would spend the rest of the weekend. Definitely made it feel more a part of the convention. The laid back air about the karaoke, and the constant support of the audience and stars that were milling about, made it a lot easier for people to get up and sing. I took a stab at a song, singing Time Warp with dear friend Connie_Point.

ChiCon 2010 Connie Point & Pip sing Time Warp!

We could not get Christopher Heyerdahl up on stage with us, but it was satisfying to see him enjoying our performance from just offstage. When we went up to talk to him later, he said we were very good (in one of his awesome accents).

ChiCon 2010 Singing at the Creation Entertainment Karaoke!

The next day kicked off bright and early with a photo op with Joe Flanigan and Michael Shanks (at least for those of us without tickets to the Flanigan or Hewlett Meet and Greets, which were going on right down the hall from where we waited for the photo op). Both men were amazing as usual (surprisingly, Joe made a comment on my Canucks jersey and Michael didn’t…) and even if photo ops are a rather quick encounter with these stars, they are always worth it to get one. The day continued on in much the same fashion of Flanigan, Hewlett, and Shanks. The duo panel with Joe and David started off with hilarity when both of them started bouncing behind the stage screens, making big shadows appear. The laughs never stopped, especially as they started ribbing each other almost immediately. This only increased when Joe was awarded the Twitter Actor of the Month and David got runner up!

ChiCon 2010 Up close with Joe Flanigan & David Hewlett!
After that, it became a ‘contest’ of who go more questions and who was best (as is to be expected with them). The ‘Stump the Experts’ Trivia contest was shortly after their panel, and I made sure to get up and participate for that one (since I have quite a love for SG-1 trivia). I was able to answer one question for a set of prizes and got to ask my question (which someone finally answered correctly while on line for Joe Flanigan’s autograph), but had to head off before I could ask another because I had to get to Michael Shanks’ Meet and Greet.

Many of the things discussed within that lovely little room I have been sworn to secrecy on, but let me say I would gladly spend more than I did for another experience like it. I would highly recommend doing a meet and greet to anyone who is considering it. Michael’s panel followed immediately after. I will say my one disappointment with the convention occurred when it was announced the video that would normally introduce Michael would be shown after his panel (I had hoped my video would win – which it did, but it was shown after). It is not something that angered me, just a minor disappointment in an otherwise excellent weekend. Michael’s panel went off spectacularly and I made sure to shout out my comments to dear Shanks whenever I felt the need!

ChiCon 2010 Amazing Michael Shanks answers me!

Michael responded in kind and much fun was had by everyone all around! When his panel had ended, I received my certificate for my winning Stargate video Good to Be Bad shown below, and then headed to his photo op. That was quite a pleasing experience, even more so than usual, but those details will have to be saved for my full report about Day 2 of the convention.

    video
    play-sharp-fill

The rest of the day consisted of autographs from Michael, David, Andee and Dan. The events of the convention this day ended with the Gold dessert party. The spread this year was spectacular and the ‘impromptu’ centerpiece submissions that came about were fantastic – I entered a hand drawn Stargate…hand drawn on the bottom of a pizza box insert!

ChiCon 2010 My hand made Stargate centerpiece!

It got several pleasing comments.  Andee Frizzell (who, along with Dan Shea, was a guest at the party) even became a centerpiece for a time. Our group also made sure to kick off the dancing right with a request to the DJ for ‘The Cha Cha Slide.’

Sunday, last day of the con, was just as amazing as the previous too. Another early rise for the Charity breakfast, but it was worth it for the company there and the wonderful breakfast that was provided. Brian J. Smith, Alaina Huffman, and Elyse Levesque were all on stage as the morning’s featured guests. It was nice to be able to see these stars who are rather new to the Stargate convention circuit. I made sure to let Brian know that he had never replied to my tweets – and he promised to do so before the end of the day. Which is a promise he kept! Each of the Stargate Universe guests had a separate panel, all of which were very informative and entertaining!

ChiCon 2010 Beautiful Elyse Levesque of SGU

ChiCon 2010 Brian J. Smith of Stargate Universe

ChiCon 2010 the very lovely Alaina Huffman

Finding out that Brian was such a big history buff was very exciting for me because I am one myself. I made sure to ask him what his favorite period in history was and he said it was definitely The U.S. Civil War. Later, just before the panel that had all three of them, I ended up winning a bid on the Shanks banner that had been hanging on the wall all weekend. So the rest of my day was spent smiling at my ‘big purchase’. The SGU trio panel was just as entertaining as their individual ones, if maybe a little more giggly much to the enjoyment of the audience.

ChiCon 2010 SGU stars Elyse, Brina and Alaina!

They all shared lots of inside jokes of what went on behind the scenes of Stargate Universe. It came up several times during the day, actually, that David Blue is the closest to the character he plays on SGU. Their group photo op came after their joint panel and then it was time for autographs and one sad, final exist from the ballroom for the weekend.

I did not hesitate this year to reup my seat for next. The experience had this year was out of this world amazing and I cannot thank Creation and the Stargate stars (plus all the attendees) for providing such a wonderful experience. If I was not always looking forward to the Creation Stargate Chicago Convention every year already, I most definitely am now!

  • Creation Entertainment’s Outstanding Chicago Stargate Con 2010!

Hello Creation Entertainment Stargate Convention Fans!

Click to visit the fabulous Creation Entertainment!
My annual trip to Creation Entertainment’s Chicago Con this year started out quite slowly, as in at a standstill. My plane had mechanical difficulties and had to be checked by mechanics at the gate. After taxiing around the runway, sitting and then getting off and back on the plane, everything was set to go. All in all, I was an hour and a half late leaving NY and arriving in Chicago. Though, as it turns out, this ended up being a good thing, as you will see.

Dan Shea happened to be waiting for the same hotel shuttle, and after informing him that the shuttle should be arriving in 10 minutes, we were all off to the hotel, where everything was a rush to get checked in and then signed in at the Con known on Twitter by the hashtag #ChiCon . I thank Monica of Creation Entertainment for her professional courtesy and help.

Due to my flight being delayed, I missed part of Steve Bacic’s Q&A, but it appeared that I hadn’t missed the best part.

Steve’s Q&A was interrupted by Dan Shea, who afterward called Steve out by challenging him to push-ups on stage. This then led to Steve writing all over Dan’s back with a marker!

The marking of the backside at ChiCon!

Dan then moved on to his Q&A and is quite animated on stage. Here, my personal experience comes in to play. Dan proceeded to tell an elaborate story about how Pip and I had deliberately told him wrong directions to the hotel shuttle as watched him walk back and forth. Dan asked my name and then launched into a discussion on Gone With The Wind! It was very funny! Eventually Dan talked about current stunts he has been working on and briefly discussed a stunt on Psych with Cary Elwes and on Fringe, where he doubled for John Noble!

Robert Picardo was up next and briefly discussed the difference between Creation Entertainment Star Trek and Stargate conventions, the fans and the shows themselves. Robert then proceeded to auction off a signed cast photo from season 5 of Stargate Atlantis for a charity he supports and endorses.

ChiCon 2010 The extremely funny & talented Robert Picardo!

Christopher Heyerdahl and Andee Frizzell came out together for their Q&A. I had no idea how chatty or funny Andee was until she started speaking. Andee told several stories regarding Wraith costumes and props. Christopher was a little quiet at the beginning, but soon started jumping off stage to help people with the microphones and even sat in the front row!

Dan Shea hosted the Creation Entertainment Cabaret, at which Andee Frizzell told several embarrassing stories and Robert Picardo put on a wonderful performance of his well known character Alphonso. Each were absolutely hilarious to watch.

ChiCon 2010 The great Creation Entertainment Caberet!

The fun Creation Entertainment Karaoke followed the Cabaret with special guests Robert Picardo, Dan Shea, Christopher Heyerdahl and Andee Frizzell. Each walked around the room and chatted with people. Robert Picardo even sang a few songs, one with his wife.

Saturday started with photo ops with Michael Shanks and Joe Flanigan and only proceeded to get better from there. Joe Flanigan and David Hewlett were the first on stage for their Q&A. Joe and David play so well off of each other and are a hoot to see in person. Of course their Q&A involved joking and making fun of each other, especially when a fan awarded Joe with a trophy for “Twitter Actor of the Month” and David won the the runner up trophy!

Dan Shea was again up on stage and told stories regarding stunt work which then led in all kinds of humorous directions.

After various photo ops, Michael Shanks was up for his Q&A. Michael came out with a shirt that said “Tweet This”, which I will leave my fellow reporter DannysGirlSG1 to share with you in her report. Needless to say, Michael was very comfortable up on stage and proceeded to joke with fans as he answered questions to the delight of the audience!

That evening was the dessert party and tasty treats with guests: Dan Shea and Andee Frizzell, who went around to each table to chat with the fans about their experiences of the day!

ChiCon 2010 - Goodies at Dessert Party!

Sunday brought the wonderful Stargate Universe stars out for the Creation Entertainment Charity Breakfast, as well as Dan Shea, and on stage for Q&A’s. Elyse Levesque, Brian J. Smith and Alaina Huffman each did an individual Q&A before a combined panel Q&A in the afternoon. Each spoke about the upcoming season of SGU, their fellow casts members and aspects of shooting the episodes.

The convention came to an end with autograph sessions for each of the SGU stars. All in all, the convention was a lot of fun and the weekend was amazing. All the guests were happy to be there and enjoyed their time with the fans.

The reason I started the “Support Your Local Food Bank” Facebook page is… I don’t feel we will ever cure cancer, high blood pressure, HIV or other diseases as long as people make money off the medications. But we can cure hunger.

If we look at the numbers I sent to WHR, by banding together we all can do a lot on our own as “people” to ensure no one goes to bed hungry.

What are we asking for? Only 10 dollars a month. This  is not much considering the amount of food the food bank can get.

    —–

NEW YORK, NY (April 14, 2010) – MTV today announced that it is partnering with the teen volunteer organization DoSomething.org to air the first-ever charitable episode of its hit reality dance competition series from Warner Horizon Television – Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew” – LIVE on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 10 p.m. ET/(tape delay) PT. In a landmark “ABDC” event, ALL five previous “ABDC”–winning crews will return to perform and to honor five of DoSomething.org’s most dedicated young social activists for their incredible contributions to their communities. “America’s Best Dance Crew” and DoSomething.org will highlight the causes of these five young people, and the network will reward each of their organizations with cash donations to help augment their efforts. The JabbaWockeeZ, Super Cr3w, Quest Crew, We Are Heroes and Poreotix will perform together and will also be partnered with a youth volunteer whose charity they will learn about through hands-on work with the organization, later performing exhibition routines in their honor.

Fans will get to see the five previous “ABDC” winners kick off the show in an explosive, one-night-only group performance; watch them give back as they work side by side with the youth volunteer and later perform a solo routine in their honor; DanceCrew.MTV.com and learn how their lives have changed since they were last on the “ABDC” stage.  After viewers watch this very special episode, they can impact change themselves by logging onto to find out how to take action through DoSomething.org.

DoSomething.org is one of the largest not-for-profit organizations in the U.S., inspiring and empowering  young people to take action around important causes.   For each of the five young people participating in this episode, DoSomething.org has provided a platform to expand their projects through financial support, national exposure and tailored guidance from the Do Something staff.

“I am so happy ABDC can team up with Do Something, which is one of the best charitable organizations out there, and together we can try to get more young people excited about volunteering and making a difference,” said executive producer Randy Jackson.

“Just like Poreotix rocked ‘ABDC’ this season, these five amazing young people are rocking community change every day and we’re psyched that ‘ABDC’ is featuring them,” said Aria Finger, Chief Marketing Officer at DoSomething.org. “We know their incredible stories will inspire millions of fans across the country to take action in their communities as well!”

The youth activists to be honored by “America’s Best Dance Crew” and DoSomething.org are:

    Marvelyn Brown, 25 (Brooklyn, NY)

Marvelyn contracted HIV through unsafe sex and is now a dedicated activist for HIV/AIDS prevention and education. Through her non-profit organization Marvelous Connections, she has given a voice to the rapidly rising number of women afflicted with both diseases in the United States. She has appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” CNN and multiple other media programs and outlets in support of these efforts. She has spoken to over a half million people globally to date, 200,000 of which went on to be tested for HIV/AIDS after listening to her speak. Her goal is to continue using her personal story of contraction to educate others and, ultimately, stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.

    Josh Sundquist, 25 (Washington D.C.)

Josh is a cancer survivor, amputee and Paralympic skier who created the social networking site Less Than Four, where amputees can ask questions, get answers and develop a community. Josh competed in the 2006 Paralympics in Turin, Italy, and has been published in The Washington Post, Daily Guideposts, the Richmond Times and Current, Newsweek’s college magazine. Additionally, his memoir, Just Don’t Fall, was release through Viking/Penguin in January of this year.

    Jordan Coleman, 14  (Hackensack, NJ)

After learning that less than half of African-American males graduate from high-school, Jordan developed and released the film “Say It Loud” to promote the importance of education. He took the film on a seven-city tour and continues to spread his message at community centers and schools across the country. He was also the only young person invited to speak alongside notable community activists Al Sharpton and Wyclef Jean at the Education Equality Rally during the Obama presidential inauguration.

    Sarah Cronk, 16 (Bettendorf, IA)

Sarah started one of the country’s first cheerleading squads for students with special needs – the Spartan Sparkles – and went on to co-found the non-profit organization The Sparkle Effect, which aims to inspire and empower high-school cheerleaders across the country to start their own squads for individuals with special needs.

Jackie Rothman, 18 (Santa Barbara, CA)

Jackie created Everybody Dance Now (EDN!) to provide a healthy outlet to the nearly 2,000 Santa Barbara-area youths who are considered at-risk to join local gangs. Through dance classes, the organization provides young people a free and compassionate environment away from peer pressure, violence, drugs and alcohol. Jackie has helped over 750 local Santa Barbara young people to date and is currently working on expanding EDN! so she can reach more individuals.

Season five of “Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew” continuously pushed the envelope with exciting challenges, including the show’s tradition of producing episodes dedicated entirely to the music of one exceptional performer – Usher, Swizz Beatz and Lady Gaga were all featured. Shot on location in Los Angeles, the series is a weekly reality dance competition showcasing the most innovative dance crews in the nation as they face challenges that push them to their limits physically, emotionally and creatively. Viewers from around the country choose their favorite crews via phone, text messaging and online voting (http://dancecrew.mtv.com) and one team is sent home every week until the crew left standing is crowned America’s Best Dance Crew and wins the $100,000 cash prize.  The show is hosted by Mario Lopez, and the series’ judges are JC Chasez, Lil Mama and Omarion. Correspondent Layla Kayleigh covers all the backstage reactions as one crew is eliminated each week, ultimately revealing the nation’s best dance crew.

“Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew” is executive produced by “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson, Joel Gallen (“The Sing Off,” “MTV Movie Awards,” Tenth Planet Productions), Hip Hop International’s Howard Schwartz and Karen Schwartz (the creators of the USA & World Hip Hop Dance Championships), Rob Lee (Bayonne Entertainment), Harriet Sternberg and Abe Hoch (both of Dream Merchant 21 Entertainment) and Josh Greenberg (“The Sing Off,” “MTV Movie Awards”). Craig Erwich, Brooke Karzen and Drew Tappon are the executives overseeing the project for Warner Horizon Television (“The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette,” “High School Reunion,” “True Beauty”). Liz Gateley, Lauren Dolgen and Morgan Selzer are the executives overseeing the project for MTV.
