  • Chuck Versus Season Four!

    Chuck Versus Season Four!

    Click to visit NBC Universal!

Hello to all my fellow Chucksters out there in the Wormhole! Chuck poster with Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski on NBC!

How has everyone been doing? I hope you’ve all been well! Chuck has been pretty epic this season. There are so many wonderful guest stars and (gentlemen) do I even need to mention the C.A.T. (Clandestine Attack Team) Squad?! No? I didn’t think so.

There has been so much that has been going on this season, but I am going to try to sum it up for you in an extremely short recap… A little akin to the summaries of “what you’ve missed so far on GLEE” if you know what I’m talking about. If you don’t know what I mean by that then grab a seat, hold on to your hats and try to read the next two paragraphs without taking a breath…

    Chuck Team at Buy More
With Morgan’s (Joshua Gomez) help, Chuck (Zachary Levi) found his mother (Linda Hamilton) who turned out to be an undercover spy at Volkoff Industries a leading crime syndicate run by a man named Alexi Volkoff (Timothy Dalton). Chuck was about to propose to Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski), who decided she was going to say yes, but before he could do it Sarah was accused of being a rogue agent and sent to jail. This was actually a ruse set up by the CIA to help her solidify a cover story and go under at Volkoff Industries to help Chuck’s mom take them down from the inside.

Chuck S4x07 - Linda Hamilton as Momma Bartkowski
The plan works, they take Volkoff down, Chuck’s mom is no longer undercover and is free to go be with her family, Morgan is a bona fide CIA spy with much help from Casey (Adam Baldwin), Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) have a baby with Momma Bartkowski (Linda Hamilton) becoming a grandma and Chuck proposes to Sarah in the delivery waiting room.

Chuck S4x07 - Srah and Ellie with Momma Bartkowski

Chuck S4x07 - Adam Baldwin and Yvonne Strahovski

For their engagement party Chuck invites Sarah’s old spy team, The C.A.T Squad, to come which sent all the fan boys out there into fits during the many drool-worthy moments. With Volkoff behind bars, Volkoff Industries seems to be at an end until his daughter shows up and decides she is going to be the new head of the company and that’s what you missed on CHUCK!

Chuck S2x15 - The CAT Squad

    Chuck S4x15 -Drool worthy moments
Phew! That’s not easy to say in one breath… Now I know that this in no way, shape or form possibly comes close to summing up the episodes from the beginning of season four to now, but these are some of the major plot points that you need to know if you are just coming back to the show. If that happens to be the case with any of you, I highly encourage, nay, I beg of you – go watch every episode to see how we’ve gotten to this point. Season four will not disappoint you, so just catch up already!

Chuck S4x07 - Zachary Levi as Chuck
One of my favorite bits of this season has got to be the fantastic guest stars that they’ve had so far. Get ready because there were LOADS of them! The first episode alone has Sarah Connor herself Linda Hamilton as Chuck’s mom, Dolph Lundgren as Marco the baddie whom Mama Bartowski takes out, Harry Dean Stanton as… Harry Dean!

And Olivia Munn in a small, yet hopefully recurring role as Greta – the codename given to any spy working at the Buy More. Heretofore Greta has been played by Munn, Isaiah Mustafa (The Old Spice Guy), Stacey Keibler (WWE, Dancing With The Stars) and Summer Glau (Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Cape)! I’m really hoping that they bring all the Gretas back for a spectacular finale, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Other guests this year have included Lou Ferrigno, Karolina Kurkova, Bronson Pinchot, the return of Nicole Richie and Stone Cold Steve Austin, Armand Assante, Eric Roberts, (Dave) Batista, Joel David Moore, Robert Englund and as mentioned above 007 himself Timothy Dalton! And all of these are just in the first SEVEN episodes!

Chuck S4x07 - Timothy Dalton as Volkoff
Even more guest stars: Ana Gestyer, Mekenna Melvin (Alex), John Larroquette (Roan Montgomery), Lou Diamond Phillips, Members of the C.A.T. Squad – Mini Anden, Mercedes Masohn and Mircea Monroe and the recent Lauren Cohan as Vivian – Volkoff’s daughter. Can you even believe the amount of talent they’ve pumped into Chuck this season? Neither can I! Make sure you watch all the episodes so you can see these incredible actors in… Well, action!

Besides this incredible line up, we’ve gotten to see all of our original and beloved stars of the show from Chuck and Sarah (Chara according to the most recent episode) to Jeffster (Scott Krinsky).

All of our favorites have come back with a bang! Granted, there were times I wanted to give Chuck a swift kick for laying out his relationship troubles while on life threatening missions, but who didn’t? I mean, he is a fully integrated spy with the Intersect 2.0 drumming around inside his head. He’s come a long, LONG way from the scared kid we met in season one who didn’t know the first thing about mission etiquette and the spy life in general, but now he does.

Chuck is a full blown spy nowadays and it drives me a little wonko that he’s slipping back into that old routine of bringing personal things into missions with him. Luckily though, he does realize this mistake and cuts it out before I exploded with frustration, so at least there’s that… But then when Sarah finally unpacks her bags and actually moves in with Chuck, he immediately mentions marriage and babies?! What the heck?? I guess it all worked out in the end. Chara is now happily engaged and there has been no more premature talk of tiny humans in their near future, thank goodness! Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see a little spy baby, but just not at this point in the game.

    Chuck S4x15 - Casey's daughter Alex McHugh
An especially exciting new relationship between Alex McHugh (Casey’s daughter) and Morgan has sparked an even more exciting relationship between Morgan and Casey. One of the best quotes of the year has to be Casey to Morgan, “You break her heart; I break your everything.” And then he turns around with that smug little smirk. These two have also bonded as they work together on missions. I love watching them together because they play off of each other so effortlessly.

Casey (Adam Baldwin) has changed over the years to become a little more human and accepting of the fact that his “team” is much more of a family than his previous teams have ever been.

Chuck S4x15 - Morgan and Caeey on the job

He’s started to not only understand this, but embrace it and I think that has a lot to do with Morgan and Chuck treating him as a person rather than always as a leader. There’s a scene in episode 13, Chuck vs. The Push Mix, that shows Casey giving up control and letting his daughter and Morgan wheel him out of the hospital that really shows us just how far Casey has come in this respect. Not that he did it without the standard Casey grunt, but that’s just how he shows his affection… The plethora of emotions that Adam Baldwin manages to convey through just grunts and eye contact continuously amazes me!

Chuck S4x15 -Adam Baldwin as Colonel Casey

Jeffster and Lester also never fail to impress with their insane antics. From switching out the CD Chuck made for Ellie when she goes into labor with something uhhhh… Special they concocted, to taking over the hospital waiting room to sing their rendition of Salt ‘n’ Peppa’s “Push It” because Awesome “forgot” said CD. They also inadvertently saved Casey’s life by digging him out of a dumpster after he escaped from some old enemies who were going to chop off his hand. It’s seriously crazy that this duo actually helped out for once, but it happened!

Chuck S4x15 -Jeffster, Lester and General Beckman
I love that Chuck has his family back for the most part (Sniff, Daddy Bartowski (Scott Bakula), sniff, sniff)! I think the fact that Chuck has finally answered the questions about his family that he’s had since childhood really help him to see things a little more clearly and this is evidenced in the way he ends up proposing to Sarah. Before he thought that he needed an elaborate setup and that everything had to be perfect, but once Volkoff is taken down, his mother is back home and safe and Ellie has her baby, he realizes that, just like Casey told him, it isn’t where you do it that matters.

Chuck S4x15 -Chuck has come a long way
There is no perfect spot or moment, but there is that perfect girl and that’s all you need. He gets down on one knee in the hospital waiting room and though there isn’t any sound, you can tell by the looks on Chuck and Sarah’s faces that it WAS the perfect proposal and how happy they are to be together. Alright, alright… Enough sappy romantic-ness from me.

And now I thought I’d give you all a few of my favorite ridiculously cheese-tastic, squee-worthy moments and all around silliness that made me nearly fall out of my chair with laughter:

Chuck S4x15 -You are my home
~ Sarah telling Chuck that he is her home

~ The fact that Sarah realized she wanted to marry Chuck even if he didn’t have the Intersect anymore AND she told him

~ When Morgan is telling Casey about his relationship with Alex to get him mad enough to break free of his paralysis ending with Casey choking Morgan and then forbidding him from dating his daughter

~ Casey fixing things between Morgan and Alex when he realizes that maybe Grimes is possibly, but still probably not quite good enough for his daughter (Everybody! “Awwwwww!”)

~ Mama Bartowski in a Terminator moment, “Come with me if you want to live.”

~ Tiny little General Beckman (Bonita Friedericy) firing a ROCKET LAUNCHER!

~ Lou Diamond Phillips recently of Stargate Universe in Chuck versus the C.A.T. Squad. ‘Nough said.

Chuck S4x15 - Lou Diamond Phillips in Chuck with the CAT Squad

~ Chuck and Sarah accidentally interrupting whatever the heck was going on between Morgan and Alex on Valentine’s Day… Especially when Sarah mouths to Chuck, “What is happening??” and he mouths back, “I DON’T KNOW!?!?”

~ Also, Chuck’s Love Machine shirt with his face on it. I absolutely NEED myself one of those bad boys! Can you imagine wearing that around at Comic-Con?! AMAZING!

Chuck S4x15 - Team Chuck with the CAT Squad
I wonder what Chuck has in store for us next… The next episode is entitled Chuck vs. The First Bank of Evil and boy, does it look spectacular! Chuck and Sarah get in touch with their Bonnie and Clyde sides by robbing a bank.

Of course, we all know Chuck and Sarah would never do such a thing, so what in the world are they actually up to? Why is Vivian at the same bank? And why is Sarah holding a gun on her and telling everyone that she is a hostage?! All these questions are sure to be answered in the next explosive episode (sneak peek included below) . Make sure you don’t miss it when Chuck returns tomorrow evening on NBC Monday February 28, 2011 8 PM EST/PST.

This guy is REALLY funny and SUPER nice. He even offered to do an on-camera interview for us! I was crazy excited about this… for about a minute… then I felt like passing out once I realized that I was the interviewer. ME?!? *gulp* Seriously, YIKES!

This is my first interview and I had like 30 minutes to figure out what I’m going to ask him. Plus, I’m not especially comfortable in front of a camera (cue panic attack). Luckily Mr. Mankuta is exceedingly gregarious and has a lot of experience with this sort of thing. He was incredibly easy to talk to and is a uniquely remarkable individual. I hope you enjoy the interview!

    Stargate Universe: Resurgence

Welcome back Stargate Universe (SGU) fans.

Watching Tuesday’s episode, Resurgence, was so bittersweet knowing that we would have to wait until April 2011 before a new episode aired, and the greenlight for Stargate Universe season 3 had not yet been announced.syfy-logo-c2

Click to visit NBC Universal Studios

If you have not seen this episode, please know that my review below will contain complete spoilers.

The Official MGM WebsiteIn every episode written by Joe Mallozzi, you are going to find a fair amount of snarkiness. The snark-o-meter rang high during Resurgence (as you will be able to see down below in my favorite lines). You will also be guaranteed a large amount of action. Will Waring was back once again to help direct this mid-season finale.

We open with Rush (Robert Carlyle) on the bridge, trying to be patient with the perceived incompetence in the others working their stations. Dr. Brody (Peter Kelamis) discovers a signal; Destiny goes to investigate.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Brody, Park and Volker on the bridge

Before dropping out of FTL, Rush tries to radio Eli (David Blue) but getting no response, he pays him a personal visit. Rush knows only too well the grief Eli is experiencing.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Rush looks for Eli

Destiny comes across the remnants of a space battle, a graveyard as Camile (Ming-Na) called it.

    SGU Resurgence S2x10 Battlefield graveyard

Rush suggests Brody should be the one to explore this site; Brody looks quite pleased with that.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Brody looking forward to exploration

Things continue to get awkward with Scott (Brian Jacob Smith) and Chloe (Elyse Levesque). Chloe’s metamorphosis is accelerating. She calls Scott out for the lack of intimacy between them as evidence that he knows where the road is leading (or as the writers will have us believe). I am still rooting for a metamorphosis of Chloe to part alien to give her superhero powers, but they discover that she is an ally and not an enemy.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Scott isn't giving up on Chloe

Having made a personal connection with Eli when his mom’s health took a turn for the worse on Earth, Camile tries to get him to open up.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Camile and Eli have a heart-to-heart

Scott, Greer (Jamil Walker Smith) and Brody leave to investigate one of the ships in the debris field. Another ship powers up; it looks like a beetle.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 New alien drone

After finding their target sites, Greer makes the initial jump (as the locks are not perfectly sealed).

    SGU Resurgence S2x10 Greer's ship-to-ship jump

A thought crossed my mind seeing Greer with a gun on the alien ship. What use are the guns in a zero-gravity environment? Has NASA ever fired a gun in space? Surely it would be propelled some distance, but to have a deadly impact. Apparently a gun can fire in space. “Gunfire is a controlled contained fire which expands and propels a projectile out of its confinement. There must be oxygen, fuel and heat present to have fire.

At first glance one would think since there is no oxygen in space that a gun could not fire, but that is not true. There is oxidizer present within gunpowder sufficient to fire the gun. Guns can fire underwater too, but when the gun barrel is filled with water there may be enough resistance within the barrel to cause it to burst. In space however, not only can the gun fire, but likely better than on Earth, since as stated earlier the water in the barrel offers dangerous resistance, air in the barrel offers a minute amount of drag as well, in space, a gunshot would have no air resistance and thus more muzzle velocity than on Earth.”

I also discovered that “a gun will fire in the vacuum of space. And with approximately 14 psi more force due to the lack of atmospheric pressure. The powder contains the oxidizer needed for the explosion. In free fall or gravity-less situation the recoil or ‘kick’ could move the shooter.”

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Greer and his gun

Meanwhile, on Destiny, TJ (Alaina Huffman) visits Varro (Mike Dopud). He says, “I haven’t seen you in awhile.” Does this suggest that TJ has been seeing Varro on a regular basis? He inquires about the Eden dwellers and her baby, and tries to show comfort after she shares that her baby was not among them, that Destiny was trying to protect her. He grabs her hand, suggesting that he would protect her as well.  I am looking forward to the future episodes that Joe Mallozzi spoke of on his blog where a love triangle erupts between Varro, TJ, and Young.

    SGU Resurgence S2x10 Varro

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Varro comforts TJ

TJ spots movement outside Varro’s window. Shortly thereafter, she has to leave; Varro wants to help. The writers are not quite ready for that (but soon).

The Destiny shows the crew the battle simulation. Eli realizes that some ships are just shut down and tells them they have to leave. NOW! Young (Louis Ferreira) radios Scott, Greer and Brody to return.

    SGU Resurgence S2x10 Battle simulation

An visually stunning space battle ensues courtesy of the amazing talents of Mark Savela and his team. I can only imagine the number of days, or weeks, they spent on those sequences.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 The battle begins

    SGU Resurgence S2x10 The battle

After trying to communicate and waiting an appropriate amount of time for a response, given the hostiles are not firing upon Destiny, Young orders them to return fire. Once again we see the talents of the visual effects team as the shuttle returns to Destiny and blows up a bad guy in the process.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 The shuttle returns to Destiny

I wonder if Dr. Park liked firing the big guns?

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Dr. Park fires the big guns!

The FTL engines are offline and things do not look good. Another ship drops out of FTL. Guess who’s coming to dinner? Yahoo! Colonel Telford (Lou Diamond Phillips) is back!

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Telford is back!

They are headed for cover and power-up in the local star, a place their enemies cannot follow. This is Varro’s first time flying in a star. The visual effects shots of a star power-up never gets old, but this time, we are treated to two ships.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Twin ship solar power-up

Telford comes aboard and recounts his story of his time on the alien ship, what he learned about the Ursini and who their enemies are. The Ursini want Destiny’s help.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Telford recounts his story

Eli pays a visit to Chloe to keep her abreast of the latest. She does not believe the Ursini can be trusted.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Chloe does not trust the Ursini

The Ursini want Destiny to attack the command carrier. Rush wants to buy Destiny some time to make repairs and double-cross the Ursini until the repairs can be made. The Ursini are going to give Destiny a lift in FTL. Rush does not see the problem with this until Young says that they hold the key to dialing Earth, which tells Rush that Young is still not 100% committed to Destiny’s mission.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Wray, Young and Rush confer

Rush returns to the bridge and spots an error Eli is making. Eli has his mind on other things. Rush is blunt about Eli’s loss and about Eli’s ability to be able to control that even with all of his abilities. It sounded like Rush was paraphrasing from the talk Scott had with him on the Malice planet.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Rush has a heart-to-heart with Eli

The Ursini accept the deal and jumps Destiny together with the seed ship.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Twin FTL jump

They drop out of FTL too soon. The Ursini have tricked them and placed them right before the command carrier.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Brody, Park and Volker

The Destiny engages in battle with the ships from the command carrier.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Engaging the command ship

Chloe wants to help and grabs Eli a little bit too hard but once out of her room, she knocks the guard out (Cpl. Baras, played by Jacob Blair) and leaves (great stunt sequence from James Bamford and company). Even doors can no longer contain Chloe, but Young sends Scott out to find her.  Lt. Vanessa James (Julia Benson) also helps.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Chloe grabs Eli

The infirmary is packed with patients and TJ sends for Varro to come and help.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Varro helps TJ

Scott finds Chloe at a console but says, “It’s too late.” The seed ship is not responding. There is nowhere to fall back. Destiny is getting a beating and the shields are almost gone. And this is where we are CRUELY left until April 2011.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 "It's too late."

    FAVORITE LINES

I had so many favorite lines in this episode.

    1. The opening sequence, but especially:
Rush to Brody: Mr. Brody, please don’t make me come over there.
Brody: “Why don’t you by my guest?”

SGU Resurgence S2x10: "Don't make me come over there"

    2. Young to Rush: “What do you mean distant? We’re on a spaceship in the middle of nowhere. From where I’m sitting, EVERYTHING is distant.”

SGU Resurgence S2x10 "Everything is distant."

    3. When Dr. Park (Jennifer Spence) suggests the signal may be that of intelligent life, Rush says, “Best-case scenario” in his opinion.
Volker (Patrick Gilmore): For real??? Do I have to remind everyone of what happened the last time we encountered an alien life form, or the time before that, OR the time before that.
Park: But you can’t judge a neighborhood by a bunch of bad neighbors.
Volker: Are you kidding? That’s EXACTLY how you judge a neighborhood.

SGU Resurgence S2x10: Judging a bad neighborhood

    4. Eli to Camile: “…and screw The Last Starfighter because all these hours playing HALO didn’t prepare me for this.”

SGU Resurgence S2x10 "Screw The Last Starfighter"

    5. Eli to Camile: “You guys are worried because I’m a little distracted?”
Camile: We’re worried because given recent events you should be a hell of a lot more than just a little distracted.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Camile worried about Eli

    6. Eli to Camile about Riley (Haig Sutherland): “You know what’s weird? Sometimes I’ll forget that he’s gone. I’ll actually walk into the gate room and turn my head and for a splint second, I wonder where the hell he is, and then I remember.
Camile: He was a very important part of your life here.
Eli: When your whole world collapses down to less than 100 people in a confined space, it all becomes important to you, Camile. Riley was part of the ship and losing him…it wasn’t just sad, it was wrong.
Camile: What about losing Ginn?” (Julie McNiven)

Eli gives her a look like “don’t go there” and backs out. Ming-Na and David Blue had some stellar acting in a beautifully written scene.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 Eli mourns Ginn

    7. Greer to Brody: So when did you finish fixing the third suit?

    Brody: Yesterday. It’s perfectly safe.
Greer: Alright. Wait, wait, wait. How come I’m wearing it and you’re not?
Brody: Easier to fix if something goes wrong…which it won’t…in all likelihood.

Peter Kelamis has such great comedic timing. I am glad the writers are giving our guest-stars some opportunities to shine.

SGU Resurgence S2x10 The third suit

    8. Greer to Brody: “Just shut up and let me work.” The “shut up” phrase is getting as much air play as “a lot of work.”

    9. When an alert pings on the bridge, Young says, “What the hell was that?”
Eli: It’s Destiny letting us know it finished assembling the simulation….either that or pie’s done.

Yum! Could that be a nice blueberry alien pie?

    SGU Resurgence S2x10 "Pie's done!"

    10. When Young asks Eli to communicate with the alien hostiles: “I want you to broadcast a message.”
    Eli: In Ancient?
Young: Ancient, English, bat signal, whatever else you’ve got. Tell them we are not a threat.

    SGU Resurgence S2x10 Bat signal

    11. Wray to Young: “As simple as that.”
Young: I doubt it will be simple. I’m hoping for a step up from impossible.

    12. On the bridge, when Rush points out that Eli’s error was causing problems, Eli says, “Shit.” I have listened to this 20 times now. Closed captioning says he says, “shoot”, and with closed captioning on, I could possibly be persuaded to hear “shoot.” But with my eyes closed with no closed captioning on, it’s “shit.” File this under: I love when “shit” gets past the censors!

SGU Resurgence S2x10 "Shit" passes the censors!

    13. Rush to Eli that he hasn’t screwed up…yet: “I’m sure with your present attitude it’s only a matter of time.”

SGU Resurgence S2x10 "Only a matter of time."

As always, there are complete spoilers in my post, so if you have not seen the episode, please come back later.syfy-logo-c2

It has to be difficult when your episode is airing the next week after Robert Cooper’s episode “Malice.” Everyone is going to be using that as the yardstick of measure.

As with every Stargate since Stargate SG-1, there were your action-packed episodes, and then the more intelClick to visit SGU at the official MGM Websitelectual episodes that required you engage the thinking part of your brain. “Visitation” is similar to those many Stargate SG-1 episodes with a spooky twist. Remi Aubuchon, writer of this particular episode, and his first script Stargate Universe, excels at these kinds of scripts. He likes exploring the world of the walking dead or the walking undead (as in Caprica).

As we open, it appears Rush (Robert Carlyle) is integrating more with the crew, but we find out they are only really there for the still that Brody (Peter Kelamis) is fixing and have little interest in Rush’s discovery, much to his dismay. At least he gave it an effort.

    SGU Visitation S2x09 Rush socializes

Having traded his shift with Brody so he could fix the still, Volker (Patrick Gilmore) radios Young (Louis Ferreira) after potential planets since they dropped out of FTL; however, a shuttle similar to the ones that came from Destiny is next to them, carrying within it the crew that was left on the planet in “Faith”, now dubbed as Eden by them. Rush, Volker, Brody, Eli (David Blue) and Young all speculate how this could happen.

Now we will know what happens to Carmen, TJ’s (Alaina Huffman) and Young’s baby. In my post on “Intervention”, however, having had a similar experience to what was scripted, I said this: “So here I was sitting, watching a mirror experience of my life being performed on Stargate Universe. On the Destiny, I am certain Carmen’s body remains, yet she exists in this other state. Are the people on the Faith planet dead now, just remaining alive in this alternate plane of existence?

I think so, but time will tell.” My heart knew the fall she was about to take, but I also need for certainty. Caine (Tygh Runyan), Val (Camille Sullivan), Peter (Tobias Slezak), and Dr. Chan (Bill Y. W. Butt, aka B.A.G.) were all there. But no baby. Also of note, the character was supposed to be called Vince Kwan instead of Dr. Chan (or Dr. Chen? hard to tell with Mr. Carlyle’s accent), but I guess that was changed as well.

SGU Visitation S2x09 Dr. Kwan or Dr. Chan?

Oops! Continuity error. Where’s Dana? When TJ went to what she thought was the Faith planet, Peter and Dana visited her in Caine’s cabin. Three female exited the shuttle. One was Val, one was Rachel, and one was an unknown woman who did not look like Dana (played by Caroline Cave in “Intervention”). Caroline Cave actually looks similar to the actress they got to play Val (Camille Sullivan). All the people who were on the Faith planet were brought back to Destiny. Joe Mallozzi said about a half dozen people along with Caine stayed behind on the Faith planet on his April 17, 2010 blog, so perhaps she is the mysterious passenger number 7 whose fate remains a mystery.

    SGU Visitation S2x09 "Eden" dwellers

Chloe (Elyse Levesque) talks about being there in her consciousness but this other thing having priorities. I wonder if again that is a continuation of the metaphor with the communication stones, being two people inside of one body. Chloe prepares a “goodbye” Kino that sort of reminded me of Stargate Atlantis, “The Shrine” episode.

SGU Visitation S2x09 Chloe says goodbye

Young and TJ discuss how the former crew members were creeping them out. In fact, the crew of Destiny does not want to associate with the Eden planet-dwellers. TJ wants to talk to Caine alone and shows him the hydroponics area where we get to see our Destiny robot hard at work (thank you Mark Savela and team!). They discuss her dream.

    SGU Visitation S2x09 Destiny robot

The scene with Greer (Jamil Walker Smith) and Scott (Brian Jacob Smith) in the hallway was awkward. The scene was well acted, but the story just seemed contrived as did the whole Chloe storyline which is why this episode did not sit well with me. It felt like these were scenes that should have been placed in another episode. Scott also is a 1st lieutenant and only 2nd lieutenants are called butter-bars. I looked this up to be sure. I will expand on my issue with the Chloe storyline in this episode in just a bit.

SGU Visitation S2x09 Scott and Greer

Eli feels sorry for Val who is sitting alone. After engaging in conversation, she begins to have a memory and relives what seems to be an aneurysmal event and collapses.

    SGU Visitation S2x09 Val dies

Meanwhile, Rush and Caine have a discussion about advanced aliens versus God. Rush brings up a good point: The shuttle was returned to a condition better than it was on Destiny, so why weren’t the crew members? “Either He’s lost his touch or God’s got nothing to do with this.” Caine is summoned to the infirmary because Val is now dead. TJ determines that Val died from a blunt-force trauma to the head.

SGU Visitation S2x09 Rush and Caine

Regarding the “B” storyline of Chloe: Like I’ve said before, the actors did a fine job with what they were asked to say and act, especially the dialogue between Greer and Chloe. I understand Chloe is slowly changing into something else and understood the sequences for it. The storyline feels contrived. I do not know how else to say this than to just be blunt: It is like Chloe’s has been pegged into a corner and no one knows what to do with her, especially leaving her in isolation over the last couple of episodes. Just an episode or so ago, they were discussing the fact that they might have to put Chloe on a planet that seems habitable IF she becomes a threat.

While the scene between Greer and Chloe was beautifully acted, how did we get from “Chloe is changing” to “Greer is going to have to execute Chloe when she fully transforms?” Seeing the scenes from next week might help explain a few things, but they did not put enough emphasis on Chloe’s transformation to make that scene between Greer and her as important as it should have been.

It’s like we went from A to C and next week we will be at “D” but we forgot about “B.” I only see a few possible outcomes to this story: First, Chloe continues to transform but proves she is friend, not foe. Second, Chloe continues to transform and dies in a blaze of glory. Third, Chloe continues to transform and is either left on a planet or executed by Greer. Fourth: They find a way to reverse the changes in Chloe. Fifth: Chloe makes it onto the alien ship and reverses the transformation herself. My own personal choice would be the first outcome: Let Chloe become part alien and get her out of isolation. The character has been through enough, with the first season playing the fish out of water, not knowing where her place was among the crew. This season she’s been walled off from the rest of the crew with the exception of Lt. Scott and Eli.

SGU Visitation S2x09 Chloe and Greer

Camile puts Peter under hypnosis who remembers who happened to Val and then shortly succumbs to hypothermia and exposure.

    SGU Visitation S2x09 Peter dies

TJ figures it out: What if they are dying again in the order they died on the planet. Scott and Greer visit Rachel (Michelle Harrison). After seeing her, our hero Scott dives right in and grabs her to carry her to the infirmary despite Greer’s warning that she might be contagious and TJ’s admonishment once he did. Rachel dies. Young picks Caine to be next up for the hypnosis.

    SGU Visitation S2x09 Rachel dies

Caine relives his time on the planet. Camile has him describe the last night. He, the last survivor on Eden, prays for help. Then he woke up next to Destiny. After the session, he knows his time is short. “I’m already dead.” Feeling his impending death, he asks TJ to join him in the observation deck so he can see the stars one last time. Even though it is not shown on camera, we know that is where he dies.

James brings Eli a Kino from the shuttle that shows the last moments with Caine and then a bright light. The aliens heard his plea and tried to intervene, but they are not God.

    FAVORITE LINES

I had quite a lot of them in this episode.

    1. Brody (when Young sniffs him on the bridge): “I wasn’t drinking. I was…fixing it.”

    2. Rush: “That sounds like Caine.”
Volker: “Caine’s more monotone than that.

    3. Eli: “Trust me. These aliens built a planet from scratch. They can just throw a shuttle between galaxies. I’m pretty sure they can impersonate Caine if they wanted to.
Volker: “Boone used to do a pretty good Caine.”
Brody: “I thought it was the other way around.”

    4. On having the crew back and how exciting it will be to talk to them:
Young: “I wouldn’t mind having a working shuttle again.”
    Rush: “Then there’s that.”

    5. Caine: “I don’t even drive a car.
Brody: “Just what a Trojan would say.”

SGU Visitation S2x09 That's what a trojan would say

    6. After Eli quotes somebody the appearance of alien beings and advanced technology does not make them God.
Young: “Turn the mic back on. — Winston Churchill.”
    Eli: “Really.”

    7. After thoroughly checking out the shuttle, Young reports in for a report:
Brody: “Even has that new shuttle smell.”

SGU Visitation S2x09 "That new car smell."

    8. Park to Greer: “Okay, you’re being too deep again.”

SGU Visitation S2x09 "You're being too deep again."

    9. A conversation Camile and Young have after she shows them Kino footage of interviews:
Young: “They don’t creep you out, even a little.”
Camile: “A lot of people creep me out a little, so I’m not the best person to ask.”
    Young: “Really?”
    Camile: “A little.”
    Young: “Me?”
    Camile: “Not as much now.”
    Young: “Hmmm. That’s good. Progress.”

    SGU Visitation S2x09 Creep out

    10. Young in response to finding out Camile can perform hypnosis:
Young: “Did the IOA teach you that?”
    Camile: “Yeah, they did.”
Young (suspiciously): “Anything else I should know about?”
Camile: “That I was a little overqualified for HR.”
    Young laughs and nods.

    11. TJ to Scott (for obvious selfish reasons — blushing)
“Strip down and get your ass into decon.”

    12.   That scene with Varro (Mike Dopud).  Argh!  Another episode without him.  Hope he is in next week’s mid-season finale.

    13. And my most favorite of all the lines in the episode: Caine to TJ: “I believe that my soul has already moved on and is looking down, even now, marveling at how kind you are to comfort a shadow.”

SGU Visitation S2x09 Being kind to a shadow

Disclaimer: WHR supports each person’s right to believe in a faith of their own choosing or for those who do not believe and their right to choose not to believe. WHR is neither comparing nor stating one is “better than the others.” Our only editorial purpose is to analyze the potential religious elements that are represented in this Stargate Universe episode.

This episode gets into some interesting points about the body, the soul and the days we have been allotted. In my own faith, the body is part of an evolutionary process; the soul is what is eternal. In 1996, Pope John Paul II came out saying that the theories of Charles Darwin were factually and wholly compatible with the teachings of the Church. It is steadfast that our soul is given to us by God and that is something not bound by the laws of evolution. Remi Aubuchon explored this idea of the walking dead/walking undead in the Caprica miniseries.

The question there was when does a machine, built by science, become sentient, i.e., develops a soul. Here the Eden dwellers were only returned to their state of well-being as that when they arrived to the planet. The aliens could not replicate their souls. Until the very end, Caine still believes that there is a life beyond this one, one that his soul has already moved onto. And in some warm cabin, Caine, Dana, Val and Peter truly are taking care of Carmen.

This review is not a recap of The Event episodes two and three. I do not favor recaps. Rather this review is an analysis exploring and evaluating some of the theories of the series tied to the storyline, how well portions of the story arc have been depicted, and what if any relationship The Event has with other series in the past. We will also discuss the quality of the acting, direction, location shooting, cinematography as well as topics anchored in the present which make the series more than believable.

For this purpose we will include select images courtesy of NBC for news analysis and review purposes as well as the promotional trailer for episode four “A Matter of Life and Death”. All told The Event establishes an edifice that is to be admired by Wormholeriders News Agency, so lets begin with a few images of the wormhole in The Event shall we?

However, be warned. Certain parts of the series are discussed in detail and should be considered as spoilers if you have not witnessed The Event for yourself. If you do not enjoy spoilers, you should stop reading now. But first lets feast your eyes on yet another couple of images of the wormhole or something most similar!

The Event is an up and coming series which has continued to reveal what effect aliens are having and have had on our world since their imprisonment some 66 years ago on Earth. With an obvious though not directly stated reference to the alleged UFO crash landing events in Roswell New Mexico circa 1947, The Event builds on that belief held by many on Earth. The Roswell incident has captivated many on our planet for over six decades. The Event dovetails this belief factor in today’s viewers very nicely in the opinion of this reviewer. This appears to be true much to the delight of millions of viewers based on recent ratings discussed at the end of this analysis.

Episodes two and three of The Event are analyzed in tandem herein because in the opinion of this reviewer the first three episodes actually act as a movie of sorts with the typical two hour duration. Some commented to me on Twitter that they could not understand what was happening in the pilot. I have watched the first three episodes several times and am convinced that they could be viewed back to back to back to help truly internalize the series single effect to date for those who where not clear on what occurred. Viewing in such a fashion helps sets the tone for what is to come. Fortunately for The Event fans, DVR technology and on-line viewing at NBC allows for just that!

The Event Pilot - An obvious Wormhole?
On a side topic, for anyone to assume that humankind is the sole type of intelligent life in the universe is being naïve in the opinion of this reviewer. As recently discussed in our new WHR Science Series, our gifted science writer RedOne68 (Sandra) has produced two fine articles. One is on the subject of life elsewhere in the universe and one is about wormholes. You can read Sandra’s latest article on life in the universe by clicking this hyperlink.

The Event story arc strays from the Roswell incident in New Mexico events in a major way. In this excellent rendition of aliens among us, broadcast on NBC in the United States, the discovery of extra-terrestrials occurs on November 02, 1944 in the Brookes Mountain Range in Alaska (a real place from the real world), some three years before the oft reported Roswell incident. The Roswell incident looms tall amid ongoing, yet unproven, claims of a government cover up ever since 1947 by conspiracy enthusiasts, many of whom may very well be correct in such beliefs.

Happenings at the Brookes Mountain Range in The Event
The basis for such lack of trust in governmental agencies far pre-dates current events and is therefore a solid cornerstone of The Event story arc which continues to be revealed in a series of flashbacks during episodes two and three. As previously mentioned in our first review of The Event, this is a time honored technique in story telling dating back to the earliest years of recorded human history, specifically in modern times as a technique in literature and film.

In episode two, we learn that that during World War 2, an “aircraft of undermined origins” crashed in a remote area of Alaska with 97 survivors not of Earthly characteristics. Being on a war footing, the United States military and “Intelligence” agencies quarantines the area, ‘apprehends’  the 97, but those are not all the survivors. The able bodied leave the crash site while character Sophia Maguire portrayed by Laura Innes prepares the wounded whom are to be interned. The question then becomes where did the others go and what are they going to do in our society?

Crash site November 02, 1944 in The Event

The 1944 allied armed forces are coming in The Event!
Initial scientific observations conclude that the non-humans appear to age at a dramatically slower rate than humankind. How much slower than humans the alien’s age leaves open the potential (in the story) that the aliens may have been living on planet Earth for a very long time until the capture of the 97 in 1944.

Just how long the aliens have been on Earth remains to be revealed in future episodes. In the episode two, a briefing to President Martinez (Blair Underwood) occurs over 65 years later. During the briefing the topic turns to the aliens DNA which has been sequenced. This proves the early 1944 hypothesis that although quite similar to humans, they are in fact alien in nature, not of the Earth.

The President will demand answers in The Event

An end of plausible deniability in The Event

The President about to be briefed in The Event
During the current day briefing which tracks the electromagnetic aspects of The Event, a flashback from 13 months earlier is played out that reveals photos from various decades illustrating the aliens whom have hardly aged in their 66 years in captivity by “Intelligence” and military divisions of the Unites States government. The current day President is astounded by these disclosures after the fact and asks “why” the aliens are being detained? Once again the real world ‘plausible deniability’ routine makes for believable story telling. Why? Many politicians throughout history claim to be unaware of various situations being managed by their subordinates.

During these sequences we also are afforded the opportunity to see more of the President’s cabinet in action including Bill Smitrovich (Thirteen Days, Independence Day, The Practice) portraying the Vice President, Raymond Jarvis. Politics aside, Bill Smittrovich’s role is quite similar to the actual reality of today’s White House with Vice President Joe Biden as the seasoned politician whom was to aid the younger Barack Obama as President. This parallel makes the story more believable by tying the plot to real world scenarios that the viewing audience can relate to.

President and Vice President are briefed in The Event
In true to life revelations to the President, the intelligence and military agencies whom have been charged with detaining the aliens since 1944 state that the aliens have a “hidden agenda”. Well of course they do!  Why else would they be detained? Or could it be that the governmental agencies suffer from good ole’ human paranoia? Well, we will leave that theory alone for the time being, but I can assure you that the “hidden agenda” is a most effectively implemented in The Event.

Hidden agendas and different physiology in The Event
With the majority of the aliens in the series (apparently) located in a secure facility in Alaska known as Mount Inostranka, it is discussed that various other factions of the aliens are operating in our society and or have operated and infiltrated our society for many years. No doubt these are the individuals whom were not hurt and escaped the 1944 crash in Alaska.

How far have they are penetrated into our society or how long they have been here has not yet been revealed.  However, we do know that at least one of them escaped the detention facility previously. Where there is one whom has escaped, there are likely to be many in the theory of The Event as I interpret them.

We then segue to the series protagonist Jason Ritter portraying Sean Walker in a Yuma Arizona hospital after learning that his girlfriend and fiancé’ Leila Buchanan, portrayed by Sarah Roemer, was not erased from the timeline but was instead kidnapped as a bargaining chip to force the father, Michael Buchanan (Scott Patterson) to crash the airliner into the press event to stop the disclosure to the general public about the alien presence here on Earth.

This aspect of The Event plot is reminiscent of a classic series “The Invaders” circa 1967-1968 where protagonist Sean Walker is akin to architect David Vincent portrayed by Roy Thinnes who knows the secrets of the aliens but is not believed by people he comes into contact with, at least not at first in both series. The Event does an awesome job in this regard.

Click to learn more about The Invaders on IMDB!

The Invaders Roy Thinnes at Alien Lab

Jason Ritter as Sean Walker in The Event!
The initial story arc in The Event is therefore one proven to be highly effective in the entertainment industry, particularly in science fiction; Various alien factions involved with our society in various governmental institutions, each with their own agenda at work. This of course must also delight conspiracy buffs who believe that our rapid advances in technology are due in part to alien knowledge being imparted to select governmental agencies operating Area 51 in Nevada.

Click to visit the stupendous SyFy!Speaking of “The Invaders”, earlier this year SyFy ran “The Invaders” as an all day marathon for two days. I cannot help but believe that “The Invaders” marathon on SyFy was a test of the viewing audience, their enjoyment of this type of series, and whether or not the viewing public would ultimately accept “The Event”. Of interest is that SyFy recently ran “The Event” series pilot to expose their viewers to the series. Is this all a coincidence? Hardly. It represents a well planned market research technique (in my opinion) that NBC Universal should be complimented on.

Back to The Event; In the hospital after the crash of the airliner in the Arizona desert (subsequent to being transported in what I can only describe as a wormhole effect), we learn that the protagonist Jason Ritter who plays the character Sean Walker, has been framed for the murder of a passenger on the cruise ship where he and Leila Buchanan (Sarah Roemer) were vacationing.

Flashback to happy times on cruise ship in The Event

Flashback to happy times on cruise ship in The Event
In a bizarre but effective twist of plot, when he sincerely wants to disclose what is occurring to law enforcement, we find that he is wanted for the murder of an acquaintance on the cruise ship. Obviously some organization has the ability to affect changes to the computer records. Are they human or are they xenophobic alien factions? Could both be at play? My theory says yes, both are involved to some extent and here is why.

As the “The Event” tale unfolds in episodes two and three, we continue to see flashbacks to the happenings from the pilot episode. Specifically we learn about what the xenophobic factions here on Earth are willing to do suppress the ‘secret’ from being revealed to the general public. This includes attempts at mass murder to apparently extinguish the witnesses. These attempts fail. Quite deliberately by the way. More on that later.

As mentioned, the extent of their xenophobic activities also include kidnapping and murder to stop the truth of an alien presence from being revealed to the general public by the President portrayed by veteran actor Blair Underwood. The xenophobia is a two way street in The Event, human paranoid of alien and visa-versa!

Sophia photo 1986 & 2009 proof of an agenda in The Event
To coin a phrase, the event’s revealed so far include when the President released the de-facto alien leader Sophia Maguire to make a public announcement which set off the entire set of spiraling story arc plot twists in the pilot episode. These flashbacks continue to fill in the story-line unabated through episode two and episode three.

Keep reading and that theory will be divulged or debunked depending on your perspective. During a one on one discussion between Sophia Maguire and the President, she discloses that it was they who saved his life in the first episode when the wormhole appeared in front of the jet airliner just prior to being used as a weapon of mass destruction. The President requests to know how the plane instantly disappeared from the viewing audience’s perspective and appeared in the Arizona desert as depicted above and below.

Heading for crash landing in Arizona in The Event

One theory is that the attack on the airliner (after being transported to the Arizona desert) may not be humans trying to suppress the news of aliens on Earth, but could in fact be aliens whom have infiltrated ‘black ops’ intelligence divisions of the United States government that do not desire their presence and or agenda to be revealed.

Black Ops attack on survivors in the Event

When Sophia declines to comment, the President informs her that she and her kind will be returned to the Mount Inostranka detention facility indefinitely. When Sophia declares that such would be a mistake, we are left wondering what else she knows and who of her kind are responsible for what happenings in The Event.

The President threatens Sophia in The Event

Sophia warns the President in The Event
In our first review of the Event I discussed a changing in the time-line from the wormhole effect. I stand by my theory that changes to the time-line are occurring or being affected for as yet some fully explained reason. While apparently not the same type of time-line changes as in Eureka, Fringe or Stargate, nonetheless the movement of an airliner such a vast distance to save the President and all at the press conference is a change in reality with far reaching consequences affecting the President of the United States and perhaps our entire world!

The Event has direct effect on The President

As episode two draws to a conclusion, in a fateful and telling flashback ten years back in time, we learn that Agent Simon Lee (now on the President’s staff) portrayed by Ian Anthony Dale, is an alien when after a blood test he removes a synthetic vein from his arm used to trick the nurse and hence the blood test required for admittance to the Central Intelligence Agency.

Agent Lee ten years earlier in The Event

We learn Agent Lee is actually an alien in The Event

This scene provides proof to the viewers that the aliens are in fact infiltrated into our government. Ironically it is agent Lee who is then tasked by Blake Sterling, the President’s advisor (Zeljko Ivanek) to root out all the aliens!

Blake Sterling says root out the aliens in The Event
Instead Agent Lee meets with alien brother “Thomas” (Clifton Collins Jr.) who after a hug informs him that “they” have “plans” to use the passengers, give him coordinates, and that Agent Lee will find out what when he gets to the Arizona desert.

A little alien hug before disclosure in The Event

Agent Lee wants to know why in The Event

Thomas 'you will find out when you get there' in The Event
Upon arrival in the Arizona desert Agent Lee finds that all the passengers are dead, but were killed after the fact, not from the airliners crash landing! They were apparently killed by a sinister force while either trying to escape or when protecting loved ones during what appears to be their final moments alive on planet Earth.

Victims in the Arizona desert in The Event

Before we proceed, a few asked me why if I think so highly of The Event did I give it an “A Minus” grade in the first review at WHR? I focused on their opinions due to the fact that the ‘sell’ to the general audience requires three episodes to really “get” ones head around what is happening. Because of the extensive use of flashbacks to fill in the back story, some found it hard to follow. I heard these constructively critical comments and internalized them. Perhaps it is easier for me to “get” The Event from my acting and entertainment service background to understand that episodes one, two and three were more like acts such as in a well delivered stage play. Each is needed to provide a full single effect for the viewing audience.

Let us now briefly discuss the acting, direction by Jeffery Reiner, special digital effects team lead by Gary D’Amico, and location shooting. The ensemble cast is superb as has been the direction, the writing, the location shooting, computer generated graphics, and the cinematography by Feliks Parnell throughout the first three episodes. Show runner and creator Nick Wauters is to be complimented for assembling such a fine team. I expect my grade to change to a straight “A” once the series resumes in episode  four “A Matter of Life and Death” after the setting of the foundation in the initial three.

Additionally the ensemble cast is supplemented with effective guest stars including D.B. Sweeney as “Carter” (24, Life as We Know It, and Jericho), Heather McComb as Agent Collier (Prison Break, Profiler, and X-Files), and Gabriel Olds as Agent Spencer (the Mentalist, Charmed and D.C.). The Event includes many other fine guest actors and actresses. It is these performances which help create the sense of realism that is The Event.

The bodies of the jetliner passengers from the wormhole transported airliner which suddenly appeared in Arizona appear to be dead! Despite the depiction of all the people massacred when attack helicopters used something, perhaps a nerve gas, a conspiracy is afoot! Appearances can be deceiving, yet in in the eyes of the President, when he arrives on the scene with his adviser’s, is that the passengers certainly look like the victims of a massacre.

Jumping ahead to the very end of the third episode, the victims are observed at the end of episode three in a hanger serving as a makeshift morgue. To our utter surprise and relief all are observed waking up from being “dead”! How in the world were the deaths feigned? We do not know. In any event, the scene and angle of filming is brilliant. Why else would people (humans) be resurrected from the “dead” if not for the purpose “Thomas” has alluded to to alien brother Agent Lee? What technology is being utilized to resurrect the dead, and who in our infiltrated government is responsible? Let’s move back a bit in the story to analyze the why shall we?

We quickly learn in episode three that there is a cover up of some sort. This enactment fits nicely with the viewers whom distrust government, a fact directly related to public sentiment in the United States and most of the world after the economic disasters of the past several years (for starters) . One of the passengers aboard the cruise ship is suspected by the protagonist Sean Walker of being part of the conspiracy. This character is later revealed in both name and deed.  Later Sean is befriended inadvertently by Agent Collier whom begins to believe his fantastic story. Prior to that, thinking she has fooled Sean Walker, she calls for backup when he leaves the motel room.

In the meantime, the aliens or human xenophobic persons working the kidnapping once again resort to murder when a police officer is killed during a routine traffic stop. We then see that it is the same woman, Vicky Roberts (Taylor Cole) from the cruise ship. And guess who is in the back of the van? Yep, its Sean’s girlfriend Leila Buchanan!

Meanwhile our hero, Sean, has been thinking several steps ahead and observes his plan working. He secrets himself in the trunk of Agent Collier’s car to gain access to the computer room at her headquarters after also having stolen her netbook computer which she states will only work when logging in plugged directly into the network at her headquarters. This was a weak technical detail that caused me to keep my grade from straight “A” status through episode three. Today’s computer encryption technology allows a secure login from anywhere in the world. Perhaps I am being harsh with 30 years of computer experience?

Anyway, so far so good for Sean. However in the story he does not think far enough ahead and is captured. But not until he has attached the computer to the network, uses face recognition technology and uncovers the truth about Vicky Roberts. Agent Collier is there to see that there are literally no less than seven fake identity driver’s licenses! Based on the reality today of identity theft and bogus ID cards, this scene is more than believable, artfully depicted by the director in several cinematic sequences. It is obvious Agent Collier now begins to truly believe what Sean has been saying since the beginning.

Oh and I left out a ‘minor’ detail. The President calmly informed Sophia that of the 97 detainees, one would surely be willing to make a deal for their freedom if she was not willing to cooperate. Sure enough we return to this in episode three when alien “William” played by Omid Abtahi apparently turns on his race and his leader Sophia so long as his alien girlfriend’s freedom from the Inostranka detention facility is part of the deal. Much like any group in real life being detained, there is always someone willing to cut a deal to save themselves at the expense of others.

We will leave that fact of life where it is and return to a quickening paces of action in The Event. Our erstwhile hero Sean Walker and the lovely Agent Collier, who by now has figured out that some rather odd “black ops” are part of the equations is surprised when two “agents” from Washington D.C. show up unexpectedly at her field office to take custody of Sean. Sean sees the goings on through the blinds in Agent Collins office. A very effective cinematic sequence by the director placing the viewer in the perspective of the intended victim is utilized.

We flash to the poor kidnapped Leila Buchanan now being held in a shipping container bound for lord knows where. She briefly attacks Vicky Roberts and informs her that Sean will never stop looking for her.

Back to Sean and a shootout at the field office ensues when they are suspected of not being who they claim. What series of any type would be complete without a little gun play? The agents are of course fakes designed to eliminate Sean from the situation. The fight sequence is well staged and believable. One bad guy is killed and our hero Sean whacks the other. Agent Collins and Sean Walker escape in the bad guy’s vehicle to fight another day!

As we reach the conclusion of the third episode, turncoat alien William is killed by his Alien girlfriend “Maya” whom is delivered to him as “part of the deal” he made to turn on his own kind and leader Sophia. Reflective of most underground organizations, unfortunately for William, the girlfriend remains loyal to the alien cause and count of the aliens under government control in The Event is now reduced to 96 when William crumples after being stabbed to death by his lover. We know then that they are not immortal as William pays the ultimate price for his treachery.

We end this review where I started the analysis of episode three, the makeshift temporary morgue in a military hanger of unknown location. One by one the so-called dead passengers wake up from the dead in a display of alien prowess. The is the question that will be answered in episode four of The Event according to the trailers I have seen.

The Event returns this Monday evening October 10, 2010 on NBC at 9 PM (east / west) in the United States. Good news for the series is that “The Event” has also been announced for premiere in the United Kingdom. We suggest that you tune in to another epic science fiction series unfolding before our very eyes! Your support during the first eight episodes will affect ratings and whether or not we will be treated to more of The Event!

As The Event on NBC is preparing for its fourth episode, half of the episodes produced to date, the series garnered a recent 6.8 viewing rating from the trusted ratings firm Nielson’s. Quite respectable for a new series against stiff Monday evening competition. Nielson’s also provides ratings with time shifted DVR viewing as well as “live” viewing that more accurately reflects how well a program is doing and whether or not a series will survive. The audience for The Event may be considered niche by some in prime time standards, however science fiction series such as Star Trek and Stargate were also considered niche and are now entering their fifth and seconds decades respectively.

I for one am hopeful that NBC will order the back end of “The Event” season one in order to produce a full season of episodes. Why? Because the series (over the first three episodes), has struck a chord about the fascinating subject of whether we are alone in the universe and whether or not visitors have been here on planet Earth now or in the past.

Therefore we reiterate, tune in again Monday October 10, 2010 at 9 PM local to watch The Event live!

With that said, each episode also stands alone segueing the single effect to a purpose which is simple. The second and third episode effectively establishes the foundations of the story arc being depicted for the viewing audience. In subsequent weeks, now that the foundations have been established, we will resume weekly analysis of “The Event”.
